On Gun Control

Updated 3 years ago

I won’t pretend to have any easy answer here, but ~40,000 dead Americans a year (that’s eight 9/11s) is apparently the price we pay to stay vigilant and prove our manhood in case we get another Obama or Hillary. And yes, that includes automatic assault rifles with magazines large enough to keep busy for minutes. Also good for deer hunting. Why IS the line at drawn at bazookas and hand grenades, anyway? When I’m defending my house against burglars I don’t feel safe unless I can pound off more than 300 rounds per minute. I won’t feel truly safe until I have access to what Pablo Escobar had access to.
I’m sure this is what the musket-era founding fathers had in mind.
…irony aside, I have accepted this. I’m not going to kid myself. This’ll never change. The NRA will strangle any reform.
What the GOP found out the hard way about Obamacare, that once people HAVE some right or privilege, they don’t wanna have it taken away, also applies to, say, being able to buy a full on military machine gun after a 6 month wait. We are a violent society with the most militaristic culture in the world. Even kids grow up with first person shooter video games. Mentally deranged people have a unique opportunity in this country to take dozens down with them.
This might work like in Switzerland or Iceland where rifle ownership is sky high, but then again the type of guns is different, and those aren’t countries where 40% believe dinosaurs coexisted with humans. We are doomed.
I don’t get phased at this anymore. It’s the new normal. And apparently the majority of America agrees with my assessment.
