Amaruca Land of the Free Gatherings
– Americans are overtly friendly. There’s a reason Borat went very far…eye contact and a firm handshake will take you very far. And don’t talk about politics.
– Flying in – Dress conservatively, especially if you look Muslim. Don’t bother bringing in anything other than LSD. American version of politeness involves using white gloves to do a cavity search.
– Getting around – you’ll need a car if you’re not in New York.
– If you drive in the middle of the country and your car’s license plates are from some far off state, be prepared to be pulled over and searched. If you are arrested, it’s not the end of the world. Get a good lawyer and things should be OK. Be docile and deferent to police, and NEVER try to bribe them. The easiest way to stay out of trouble is to keep your drugs so exotic that local rednecks won’t know what it is.
– Do not sleep with the farmer’s daughter, no matter how cute she is or how much she promises she is over 16.
– The economy is booming. Come and start a business.
Did you know that a growing body of evidence suggests that the origin of the name America was not the Italian explorer Amerigo as most believe? A compelling new etymological theory reveals that “America” came from the Mayan word Amaruca, literally translated as the “Land of the Plumed Serpents” (winged serpents, aka the Quetzalcoatl, and the Caduceus, symbol of medicine, money, drugs, and kundalini). (Ed. note: this has been disproven)
The chief god of the Maya in Central America is Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent that looked like the crawling morning glory vine that provided a psychedelic sacrament in the form of LSA. In Peru, this god is called Amaru (as in Tupac Amaru, the last defender killed by the Spaniards) and the territory was/is known as Amaruca. The tribe of Amaru still exists in Peru today. All this is startling news, folks. That means that families have been in “Amaruca” watching their very own LSA/ayahuasca inspired Simpsons way before the Europeans landed with their communicable diseases spawned from generations living in close proximity to domesticated animals.
The psychedelic spirit is picking up steam in the birthplace of Goa Gil, hippy culture, rock & roll, and the Internet. 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl author and guru Daniel Pinchbeck is getting press as the “New Psychedelic Guru” and he stopped dissing trance parties as merely a phase until he left the U.S. and got religion at the Boom festival in Portugal. Pinchbeck is now a regular voice in the trance community, offering intellectual food for thought. “The times have been darkening recently because of President Bush’s idiocy, and some are realizing the potential of psychedelics to wake up humanity,” says Alex Grey, the psychedelic artist, a friend of Pinchbeck’s. “As we come closer to a kind of apocalyptic culture, psychedelics give us an opportunity to look through a lens into our own mind and reflect where we want to steer our future.”
The psychedelic paradigm is shifting into a higher dimension. Ayahuasca use, now a legal church sacrament, is growing. The U.S. government has been funding psychedelic studies such as psilocybin for religious well being, giving MDMA to chimpanzees to help their sociability in the wild, and treating cluster headaches and terminally ill patients with psilocybin. Against this backdrop, psychedelic trance music continues to proliferate. Once confined to the coasts, trance is now thriving in the middle of the country including the birthplace of house and techno, Chicago. With this bridge between coasts, we are starting to see little bubbles of trance popping up in unlikely backwaters of the U.S.
Los Angeles had another super-duper year with numerous celebrations being held at The Ranch & beyond. Psytrance continues to be a powerful presence at multi-genre events & invariably turns into the hot spot when the Full-On tunes kick in. The psychedelic stage became the main attraction at the LA Burning Man Decompression, normally a breakbeat bonanza. Psytribe continues to hold it down for la familia & several of their members are now producing music. Mindfull is the new dark psy contingent & held several gatherings in the desert. Green Sector ran the gamut hosting events at Seacliff beach, the Mojave desert, Las Vegas Nevada, the streets of LA, and home sweet home at the ranch. They also transported their production crew up north to the 2nd Annual Symbiosis Gathering to provide deco, DJ’s, sound, water & power for the event. This is the progression of Psytrance in America, & the key to large festivals here. Bringing together the primary organizers from populated trance centers to create multi-day, multi-genre, multi-verse experiences. More collaborations are on the way in 2007…keep your ears peeled.
Northern Cali and the west coast in general continues to expand and diversify. Many small events going on simultaneously with 100- 400 folks on a nearly weekly basis. Active Psy – Crews include: Geomagnetic.tv/Phoenix Family, G.O.A. Play/Symbiosis Crew, Raw Heaven, Tantra, Drop Out, Psybooty, Outpost 23, Secret Psychedelia, Synchronize and numerous other less active collectives and groups that still contribute a lot. John Wood and crew produced another Love Fest with 100,000 attendees and 20+ stages (including psy!) at the same time as nearby (3 hours away) the symbiosis gathering had 1500+ folks. Geomagnetic and the Phoenix Family continue to produce amazing gatherings indoors and out with top-name international acts. Musically the scene has been growing exponentially with new artists and new labels being created to meet the demand of the now growing worldwide market. US artists that have really taken off would include international tours by: Chromatone, Penta, Mubali, Random, Mindstorm, Ocelot, The Nommos, Bodhisattva 13:20 all finding a lot of support globally. Back home new acts like Amanda, Arahat, Alien Mental, Xyla, Sanayama, Helios and recently signed to Acidance – Meta (formerly known as Aeon). In the global scene CPU/Mekkanikka/SiriusIssness/ Painkiller/InnerAction/ Biodegradeable moved to Barcelona a few years back and put the San Francisco sound out to the world.
In Seattle, Infinite Connections has been doing a series of Iosis Art Parties that have featured some of the world’s top progressive psy acts while Environmental Structures focuses on the darker sounds. In Portland, Apollo’s Lute’s former members, N.E.T., Catharsis Crew, Synergy Productions, Sidetrakkt & others have organized events in the past.
In Texas, the vast expanse of the lone star state reveals wonderful locations for intense stomping such as wooded ranches deep in the heartland or desolate beaches along the gulf coast. The future looks bright for bush country as crews, DJs & artists are evolving faster than you can say “bring ’em on.” Overmindworks trances in the Arizona desert.
Midwestern psy/Goa culture evolved and deepened in 2006, with multiple events in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Missouri. The
Chilluminati continued to resonate in the Midwest in 2006 with one metro chill and three open-air psytrance events. Events like “Sacred Earth” and “Crystal Sky” showed an increased focus in event balance with the integration of a myriad of live performance video artists, chill-out environments, and workshops. Entheon Village worked closely with Chilluminati and Psymbolic through a string of well attended “Entheon Village” fundraising events for Burning-Man. Psymbolic continues to establish a higher awareness for A/V artists and opens doors to a new psymbient artist weekly at “Onomatopoeia”. Trance Psyndicate raised the bar by registering and organizing the Illinois “Earth Dance” which spotlighted psytrance one night, and downtempo the next. Divine Balance organized an event with Oxygen Rec., followed by the Trinity Series releases which is part of the DB Sonic Healing Initiative that has achieved international recognition. Iowa was supercharged by Subconscious Collective’s “MAGE 3” and MindOutpsyde’s numerous indoor events, including “Transdimensional Shift”. Missouri’s Mindlicker dome graced the midwest “InterFuse” burn. Also with several indoor events, GoaHead and Cosmic Traveler continued rocking Ohio’s cities Columbus and Cleveland. 2007 is looking expansive with many collectives forming and effectively collaborating alongside more talent moving to or traveling through the Fresh Midwest.
On the East Coast, New York’s fabled and storied scene entered its 10th year in 2006 with thousands of international trance travelers with a patchwork quilt of styles and approaches. Indoor club events with hundreds of celebrants are the bailiwick of Tsunami, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary since it first brought Goa trance to the U.S., Return to the Source at the Liberty Science Center in 1996. Alladin Project has been a pioneer in importing new talent from overseas, for example bringing Goa Gil to New York for the first time. Full power Goa is resurging thanks to newcomer 6362 Metaforce, whose partners Rachel Sacks and Vish Kalra owned Tres Botas in Bombay. Reality Engine produces Alex Grey’s events at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (COSM) on top of what used to be Sound Factory/Twilo. 55 Lex in Brooklyn continues to be the base for the underground. 28th Day, the Russians at TDC at Echo Lake and A.M. Bionik Universe have all kept the open-air spirit. PSI and Adam/Ian/Jowe keep on groovin’ in the ‘Barrens. Northeast producers include Jay Alpha Channel, Onnomon, and Zero Divide, who host Konvocation in Washington DC.
In Boston Sonic Beating hosts the Psyforia monthly with huge robots made by Bob Trahpek, and is the home base for Psylab, an innovative new psychedelic trance jam band. In Pennsylvania, Gaian Mind continues to build upon its wondrous open air in America’s own Stonehenge. Burning Lotus rose from the ashes of previous burns such as Burning Elf, Burning Bert, and Burning Buddha. North Carolina’s Touch Samadhi crew are making waves all over the country with their primal beats & annual outdoor Powow. Long backwaters, Florida and Atlanta are starting to heat up, with psytrance rooms now at most raves.
The greatest show on Earth, Burning Man in the Nevada desert, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2006, as did MAPS.org, who sponsors many government studies into psychedelics. MAPS had a massive village consisting of an enormous dome displaying 8m prints of Alex Grey’s work, two tents with galleries of contemporary psychedelic art, a chill-out meditation station, and a cutting edge super-structure (like a giant curved circus tent from the future) in which they had over 40 scholars, luminaries and scientists give talks on psychedelic topics. Being one of the most amazing attractions on the playa, everybody who visited was in appreciative awe and deeply educated about the fervent efforts of those focused on the psychedelic movement. The theme for 2007: The Green Man. The Man will stand atop a structure that resembles a green mountain peak. Nestled at its base, a forest will provide both shade and shelter for participants.; Artists are invited to contribute to this forest by creating simulated ‘trees’ fashioned from recycled industrial materials. Participants can also join in by using sustainable forms of energy at their camps and utilizing green resources in their art pieces.

Philadelphia’s Premier Psy-Trance Party! Special Guest: Brian H (Mayavada/Konvocation/Peripheral Fission – DC ) Brian H’s early years as a DJ were spent battling for acceptance in the breaks dominated dance floors of Florida. The difficulty brought upon him from being a hard trance DJ only pushed him harder to find better tracks, make smoother mixes and create more interesting sets. His extraordinary talents landed him many radio appearances and residencies including Foundation Radio, a very popular pirate underground station in Orlando, The Perimeter on KISS 105.3 in Gainesville, and The Vinyl Destination on 100.5 The Buzz in Gainesville. Brian H was also the co-founder of Audible Mayhem which threw many successful shows throughout North/Central Florida, but the slowly degrading Florida scene eventually caught up with them and the crew disbanded. Brian H soon after moved back to his hometown of Washington, DC where the scene was stronger. It was here where he discovered a renewed interest in psytrance which forged the hard trance/psytrance fusion he now plays. In a short time, Brian H has been in the capital he has rapidly gained respect from DJs of all genres and experience levels as well as co-founding Mayavada Productions and being picked up by the Konvocation crew. By choosing the most forward-thinking tunes and creatively piecing together his mixes, Brian H aims to push the scene forward from both a musician’s and a DJ’s perspective. RypTide (Peripheral Fission/Mayavada – DC) For 6 years, RypTide has been working to perfect the creation of a unique blend of dark and pounding, yet funky and very danceable soundscapes to the delight of many a dancefloor in the Washington, DC Metro area. Relishing in “keeping music evil,” RypTide enjoys working dancefloors into a frenzy with fist-pumping, foot-stomping screamers. In his first Philadelphia appearance, however, RypTide will show his softer side, blending the groovy, the uplifting, and the funky – with maybe just a touch of evil ;] – to get you prepped for a full night of dancing. Celebrating Our 4 Year Anniversary and M-Field’s Record Release! Live Act ~ :::M-Field (Hartford / San Francisco) Psybooty Records Featuring material off their new full-length release – “Current of Life” Available on January 19, 2007 on Psyshop and Beatport! .com for more info “M-Field” began with a chance meeting of two like-minded individuals, Jay (aka Indigom / Alpha Channel) and Rob (aka Rob-ot), at a loft party in Boston, Massachusetts in early 2004. As it turns out, they both lived within 2 miles of each other in New Haven, Connecticut. A week later Rob dropped by D-Space Studios, Jay’s studio space, and very quickly a healthy collaboration was born, even still now that Rob has relocated to San Francisco. Their tracks have since won over DJs and dance floors from coast to coast. Don’t miss this chance to hear some of their outstanding new material live! DJs ~ ::Rob-ot (San Francisco) Psybooty Records Rob bought his first turntables in 2000 and began playing out at underground trance parties in San Francisco with local event production crew, Phoenix Family. He had been making tracks using “tracker programs” for fun since 1995, but it wasn’t until 2001 that he teamed up with Ross Random and began to learn his way around Logic. Currently, Rob still collaborates with Random as RandomRobot (mental yin/yang full-on) and Chromatone (the funky-full-prog- on). As a DJ he has recently performed at the Love Fest in San Francisco on the Tantra Float to an enthusiastic audience of thousands. ::: Dave Henshaw (Sonic Beating) It’s sometimes difficult to find Dave at a party because he prefers to maintain a low profile guarding the parking lot, checking Red Sox scores, or chilling in the back corner of the dance floor; but once you do find him behind the decks, you will realize that he is one of the most profound progressive DJs in North America. Smooth and refined, his sets are blissful and ethereal, a perfect beginning to our anniversary celebration. ::: Ammon EP (Sonic Beating/Soul Trance) This brilliant musician has been spinning psy in Boston for almost 10 years. His skills run deep: Ammon performed at the last Gaian Mind festival, and also ran the main sound system at this event. He’s part of the classical/worldbeat band Copal, and the owner of Soul Trance records. Tonight he will bring the energy of the party to full height with a slamming full-on closing set. The “Current of Life” cd will be on sale for a special price of $10 at Psyforia. Don’t miss the visuals by our friend Geneva from Asheville in the chapel with Psylab,,, https://web.archive.org/web/20170610160136/http://dijjitalambiance.com/ shes a very talented vj! I don’t think she got any publicity but will be there afaik. Goddamn, this party was awesome… special thanx to Jaemon, who I had no idea was going to be doing deco, and Nick Binary, whose assistance setting up the chapel, recording novatron’s set was invaluable, and helping us keep the main room running when Tony was out of the building, was invaluable. And of course, the psybooty guys… both the live sets and the DJ set from rob were totally awesome… the main room was packed and going crazy pretty much the whole night. The first time we’ve ever had to close the door to control crowd levels. really good one! never saw COSM so packed! so many good attractions going all over the place bringing together many different crowds with the same interests. thanks all for the participation, it was great to meet all the new faces and to see very good friends!! thanks Theo and 28th day for the sound setup and help on the promotion! The artists were amazing! novatron with his unique psy breaks, jay and rob taking it up to ecstatic end! psylab’s downtempo downbeats live was unbelievable!! great party overall, some aspects to work on our side, since we never imagined getting so many people…well, bring it on! because learning is priceless… namaste huge, overwhelming crowd, a mix of trancers (very few), ravers, coke-heads and plain strangers from the street…. angry bouncers keeping people freezing outside…. a group of kids spewing obscenities and throwing up in the bathroom of the chapel of SACRED mirrors. Profanity… I wonder what Alex Grey made of this hoi polloi invasion, he seemed busy painting…. Time to scale back and bring back the vibe, guys! …compared to the previous Salons, where the “scaled back” crowd of low-energy psychedelic elites disinterested him so greatly that he could barely endure the public painting for two hours before retreating into an inner sanctum for the remainder of the evening, presumably to sleep and forget as quickly as possible. Now if Alex and Allyson Grey both reacted as if Saturday night was one of the best events they’ve had in their sacred space, perhaps your perceptual filter needs a re-examination? The tubes may be clogged. Yeah, seriously… and angry bouncers keeping people waiting outside? Well, there IS a limit to how many people COSM can hold… if we had let more people in the “huge, overwhelming crowd” would have been much more so. I found the dance floor at this event to have been one of the most enthusiastic and high-energy I’ve ever seen ANYWHERE, and that includes other psyevents. Unfortunately (=)), people seem to really like this series… how would you suggest we scale back? Keep more people waiting outside? Ban the bisco kids! Execute anyone caught drinking Bud Light in CoSM! Explain to people that there is no Shakedown Street in an art gallery?

After several years of being a DJ and event coordinator, he began to produce his own music in the summer of 2003. Assisted and influenced by San Francisco artists such as Quasar, Ocelot, the Nommos, Chromatone, and Penta. Mubali’s music began appearing on various labels like Mistress of Evil Records, Geomagnetic TV, Trishula Records, Insomnia Recs, and Manic Dragon Recs. In March of 2006, Trishula Records released Mubali’s debut full length titled “Cats at Play.” His music style can be called nighttime, aggressive, psychedelic music, and this year he has been doing a lot of collaborations with many artists such as Naked Tourist, Highko, Arahat, Bodhisattva 13:20, and Electrypnose. Be prepared for his sonic onslaught and holographic textures. Xyla – (Mistress of Evil Records, Shaman Films) San Francisco/Medina, Ohio Dark, abrasive, aggressive, and beautiful; these are words that describe the sound of the well-known producer from San Francisco. Her experimental style draws upon several genres including industrial, power noise, and trance. Xyla brings us a new concept in what we call dark electronic music. She has recently relocated from San Francisco to Medina, Ohio, and we are very happy to have her here with us! For those who missed her epic live set at Chimera, here is a rewind for you with new tracks from her album. Dj’s: Lauryn – (Peak Records, 28thDay) New York City This Goahead date with Lauryn is long overdue! Lauryn’s passion for music has been a constant all her life. She began playing the violin when she was 9 years old. Her love of music led her to begin DJing and producing her own psytrance radio show while attending college. In 2002, Lauryn moved to Boston where she helped start Psyforia. Recently relocated to New York City, Lauryn is a label DJ with Peak Rec (Switzerland) and is affiliated with 28thday(NYC) and Mistical Productions(Texas). In the past six years, Lauryn has played across the US and in Europe, sharing the stage with many well-known international acts. We have a fresh new space in Akron, Ohio for Winterdelica! I’m loving it, it’s only 5 minutes from where I live. This is the first time in 7 years of promotion I have had a venue this close to my home! This will be an intimate studio warehouse type setting with a loft chill area and lots of cool things to look at to keep your mind occupied! I know Marisa and Stas will have the place looking great with new deco creations, and there is a huge screen for your visual stimulation. This is an informal, white party. Attendees arriving in all white will receive the $10 presale price at the door. Come sporting your white shirts, pants, skirts, stockings, gloves, scarves, wigs, feathers, gnomes, etc., and join in the psychedelic, visual fun! We plan on getting a bonfire going in the back and poi spinners are permitted. No telling what the weather will be like. December has brought us both a harsh winter storm and 55-degree sunny weather. Expect anything! We tested the sound system out yesterday and it is set up in surround fashion. It will be thumpin and ready for stompers! You will feel it both in your chest and on the floor! Excellent sound system! Feel free to bring your own beverages of any kind. There will also be a limited amount of various free beverages and fruit. Being an intimate space, there is lots of room, but it does have its limits, so I do strongly encourage the presale option, especially if you are coming from out of town! The lineup I feel is one of our best ever. We absolutely had to give Xyla a rewind after what she did to us at Chimera, so if you missed it here is your chance! She will be playing fresh music from her new album. We are really happy to have Mubali back again also and we look forward to hearing what the Reverend Cat in Play has in store for us! This will be Lauryn’s first-ever Northeast Ohio appearance and we are happy to have old friend Sweet Chaos return! TDC Presents: “Psychedelic Trance Party”
@ REBEL (former Downtime) Main Stage Polyphonia (Trishula Records, TDC Production – Greece) – LIVE SET Polyphonia is the solo project of Romolo Cheri. After some years of metal and hardcore music, he discovered psytrance in 1995 and was instantly addicted to the full energy outdoor parties around Greece and Goa. He brings to us his uncompromising twisted and psychedelic music. Mubali (Trishula Records, Mistress of Evil Records – California/Chicago) – LIVE SET Greg Farley has been involved in the psychedelic trance scene in Northern California for over 5 years. MuteX (TDC Underground – NYC) Master engineer, expert journey-maker, TDC Crew member Gabriel is mixing together a recipe of psychedelic mayhem to power up the night. Eg_bot & Mescalinium (Gaian Mind, PSI – Philadelphia/NYC) Having recently blown up dancefloors from Boston to Asheville, these two trance veterans are once again setting their sights on the big apple. Expect a dark and twisted full power journey from two of Philly’s phinest. Smooth yet crunchy, raw yet refined, psychedelicious and immensely satisfying. The sound of the Philly Underground! Lauryn (Peak Records, 28thDay – NYC) – DJ Set Lauryn’s passion for music has been a constant all her life. In the past six years, Lauryn has played across the US, in Canada and Europe, sharing the stage with many well-known international acts. She is known for her energetic, nighttime, funky full-on, delic sets, as well as the occasional morning progressive grooves. Progressive Stage SLEPAK vs. EARTHIAN (aka ANIMALTEK) (Omnitribe – NYC) www.myspace.com/animaltek, www.animaltek.net VADIM (Loft.N.Space – NYC) KIFE (Omnitribe – NYC) INDRA (Omnitribe/Alphatrance – NYC) + Special Guest: SHMUMER (Radiolaria – Boston/NYC) – LIVE and DJ set! Deco Environment by: Uta Bekaia (Georgia) TDC Production Admission $20 before midnight, $25 after 19 to enter, 21 to drink (with ID) Location Club REBEL 251 West 30th St Manhatten (between 7th and 8th Ave) When: From 10pm – 6am
I’m suprized no one posted a review of this party. Such a good time!!!! Deco was great and I really liked the darkroom and the proggy room, both rooms packed all night!!!! Good strategy TDC, and great work!!!!. Lots of old faces came peeling from the woodwork for this and it was really nice to see everyone. Mubali and Polyphonia kicked ass and so did Eg_bot for the 20 minutes played. The vibe was great, good to see Mukti again, great hanging with Mubali and I meet some vibrant Israeli ladies smoking in the girl’s room, hehehehe. Why did this have to be at Downtime though?! That place sucked and continues to blow. My sweet little friend’s bag got stolen and I got sick of the guards shining a light in my face everytime I reached in my pocket. They don’t want us there. TDC is too good for that place. On a side note, I was told by my friend that when her and her BF entered the party some scummy fuck came up to her and said ” I can’t believe they are letting YOU people in here.” Whoever that is needs a serious head check. If you can’t stand the fact that there are many races and cultures in a INTERNATIONAL music genre than your in the wrong fucking place, asshole. *sorry guys. Ir really pissed me off to hear something like that. Gomenasai. I’ll basically just second everything that neuronympho just said. I had a great time, and the music was wonderful, and I definitely spent way too much time staring at certain pieces of the deco. the prog room was cool, especially once it emptied out a bit, and I don’t normally enjoy prog much. but now to nitpick a bit: Lauryn played before midnight? I mean, I guess she did play lowest bpms of anyone, but, that was unfortunate, and I missed hearing her, and she is one of the reasons that’ll make me leave the library. Mubali’s set was great, and it was great to see him, but I would have again preferred if he had played later, when the dancefloor vibe had coalesced more and skulls were split wider open. despite that I danced myself sweaty. when polyphonia’s set began I was sitting on the side, catching my breath and staring at some of uta’s work, and I knew it began because all of a sudden it got WAY louder. all I could hear was bass frequencies. several walks around the block later I came back inside and either they turned it down or my brain was more ready, but I started to really enjoy it. interesting music! I hadn’t realized how much so from the several compilation tracks I have. dave and pat were working the magic: polyphonia has scared off all the people who didn’t want to be there, and when the lights came up the dance floor was rocking full of happy smiley trancers and I knew the party had been a success. so kudos to everyone who made it happen and thanks to all our music makers. but, again to echo the comment above, downtime/rebel was a bust. I wouldn’t go back to a party there no matter who was playing. empty your pockets at the door, massive security pushing through the crowd every couple minutes, etc. obviously, the security wasn’t a problem of too much security– everyone got what they needed– but of being complete vibe-kill. and I don’t think I speak just for myself. I’m guessing that this mixture of pros and cons, and the difficulty of expressing it, is why few people have posted reviews. but to reiterate the main point: I had a great time (and so did an old friend I brought for whom this was her first but not last party), and thanks to everyone.

His features have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Wired and many other publications. He writes a monthly column, Prophet Motive, for Conscious Choice Magazine (web consciouschoice ), which has affiliates in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. -Live art performances by Alex & Allyson Grey Oliver Vernon Zachariah Sharon Fulcher CoSMosis Open from 10 PM to 5 AM Karsh Kale(Six Degrees/Kollektiv) Described by Billboard Magazine as a visionary composer and producer, Karsh Kale (pronounced Kursh Kah-lay) is one of global electronic music92s brightest stars. While his peers view Kale as a force of nature on both tabla and drums, Kale is an equally innovative songwriter, producer, composer and DJ. Whether playing live or as a DJ. Kale has brought his infectious global sound to almost every major city on four continents. Kale is equally renowned by both fans and critics as the pioneer of a sound that captures a panorama of influences – past and future, analog and digital – bringing classical Indian music into the Western mainstream rock and electronic vernacular. In a span of less than seven years, Kale released four critically acclaimed solo albums on Six Degrees Records, became a founding member of the supergroups Tabla Beat Science and Realize Live, recorded and remixed countless artists, and has collaborated with the likes of Zakir Hussain, Paul Oakenfold, Sting, Anoushka Shankar, Salim-Sulaiman, Bill Laswell, MIDI val Punditz, Norah Jones, Sultan Khan, Paula Cole, Susheela Raman, and Herbie Hancock. Karsh has also created Kollektiv, a national crew of DJs’ producers, musicians, and artists showcasing cutting edge underground music through Kollektiv events across the country. Sub Swara (Sunder, Dhruva and Haj) The Sub Swara crew has making serious waves in the world of cutting edge sound since its inception as a performing crew and club residency in 2005. Both as individual recording and performing artists and as a tandem, the Sub Swara crew is everywhere right now. Defying genre and concocting a bass charged blend of midtempo breaks, ragga dancehall, glitch, dubstep, next level breakbeat and the uncategorizable, Dhruva, Sunder, Haj have created a profound imprint and redefined dance music with their signature blend of mixing, turntablism and live dubbed out tabla. With a slew of crushing new material, a much-anticipated debut album scheduled for late summer release, and blazing gigs from coasts to coast and across the world, SS has been pushing big speaker bizness to new levels. The Sub Swara live set represents the crew in fullest effect. With the recent addition of heavyweight mc Juakali to the live Set Sub Swara has added a crucial ragga component to their international bass and breaks fill ed sound and has continued to ignite and unite crews from all sonic lineages. The SS sounds run deep and traverses all boundaries. “It is winter proper; the cold weather, such as it is, has come to stay. I bloom indoors like a forced forsythia; I come in to come out.” Annie Dillard And now on with the dance! 28thday invites you to an old-fashioned psychedelic loft party, this time at a spacious, accessible location in Queens. To attend this event shift at 28thday, or purchase a presale ticket at web 28thday. Exact location will be provided 48 hours in advance, to all RSVP and presale holders. You *must* RSVP or purchase a presale to attend no exceptions! Musical lineup: REEFER DECREE – LIVE (Iboga, Denmark) Many of you remember stomping wild and barefoot to Oliver’s beautifully funky DJ set at our Prog in the Park event last summer. There’s still a little while to go before we’ll all be back out under the warm sun, but don’t be surprised if you break a sweat tonight grooving to Reefer Decree’s live set extended to 1.5 hours so Oliver can share with us some “crispy new material”. IBOJIMALIVE + DJ (Yellow Sunshine Explosion, Sweden) Swedish trance duo Mathias (DJ Molly Kulator) Andersson and Magnus Holte were recognized by Israeli artist Safi Connection, who helped record their first track ‘Awakening Of Dawn’. Ibojima’s second release ‘Apollo Project’ became a blasting dance-floor hit, and together with last release ‘Higher Energy’ made Ibojima a big name worldwide. Since last year’s album release ‘Morning Glory’ on YSE, which added a crunchy twist to their sound, Ibojima has been booked solid for live performances worldwide. Most recently touring with trance legend Hux-Flux, this will be Mathias’ flagship United States appearance. CHRISTER (Limboland | Shiva Space Technology | Mechanik, Germ any) Christer is a label DJ for two important labels: Shiva Space Technology and Mechanik Records. He’s also one of those old-style DJs, the rare kind that tries to tell a story from behind the mixer instead of just playing the latest unreleaseds. His first true epiphany came in the shape and form of the album “Return to the Source – The Chakra Journey”, which drove his interest for music even further down the electronic spiral highway. Since then Christer has provided the audience with a wide and exciting range of psychedelic trance, with one main intention: to make people dance. As Christer exclaims, “Psychedelic music is pure energy and raw spirituality – I play it because I love it, unconditionally.” DAVE HENSHAW (Sonic Beating, Boston) It’s sometimes difficult to find Dave at a party because he prefers to maintain a low profile guarding the parking lot, checking Red Sox scores, or chilling in the back corner of the dance floor; but once you do find him behind the decks, you will realize that he is one of the most profound progressive DJs in North America. AMMON EP (Sonic Beating | Soul Trance, Boston) This brilliant musician has been spinning psy in Boston for almost 10 years. His skills run deep: Ammon performed at the last Gaian Mind festival, and also ran the main sound system at that event. He’s part of the classical/worldbeat band Copal, and the owner of Soul Trance records. Tonight Ammon will showcase his talents in the progressive-psy department. LAURYN (Peak Records | 28thday, NYC) Peak Records label DJ and 28thday resident, Lauryn has been busy rocking parties and festivals at various locations within the United States, Canada, and Europe. S he’s known for her energetic, nighttime, funky full-on, delic sets. Tonight we welcome Lauryn home to her first 28thday appearance since relocating to NYC! TONY UNORTHODOX (28thday, NYC) There is a new movement in electronic music happening overseas, a new wave of electro-infused trance music that combines the best elements of prog, electro, techno, and psytrance into a sound that is much more powerful and groovy than your standard progressive psy. Unfortunately, this exciting and highly danceable new frontier has largely gone under the radar in New York, and Tony has made it his personal mission to fix that. Tony Unorthodox is one of the cogs that make the 28thday wheel spin and is also one of NYC’s longest active prog/psy DJs. Through his tenure as a local DJ and various appearances, he has become a staple in today’s “NYC trancers” musical diet. Fantastic party, fantastic! There was not even one negative thing about this party. Amazing space, friendly faces, great vibe, beautiful music. Lauryn just killed it! Way to go, girl! I couldn’t stop dancing and smiling the whole time. Thank you 28thdays It was my first time at your party and I’m impressed. Thanks a lot. All I can say is…holy moly, what an event. The RVSP actually worked out REALLY well in terms of space. Wonderland is an awesome place, I was happy to be back there. SoOOooo many friendly faces new and familiar, near and far and everyone was just having an all-out good time. The music was absolutely soul-full and heart thumping. Lauryn, Ibojima, reefer..way to melt face!!!! Great deco and those freakin’ mind-bending electric sheep visuals…I caught several poor trancers wide-eyed and paralyzed by looking at it…me being one of them A proggy sunrise was the perfect touch and took me back to the pines. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any sweeter, some random assortment of old raver friends appear on the dancefloor. Thanks 28th day!!! Now some sleep…. superb music, vibes, lighing/deco, and energy all night long!!! The setup and production obviously took a lot of effort and planning, and was well worth it! Thank you! Walked into Lauryn killing it with some hard twisted stompy mayhem, followed by Christer moving things sideways a notch yet keeping the bodies groovin with vibes and sounds still just as psychedelic and full power – Ibojima then swept things away in a different direction with his own clean crisp intergalactic sounds, more on the morning tip – he is one to watch out for sure – soome of his stuff sounded like a more futuristic and evolved cousin of Hux Flux – then – although Reefer followed the above-mentioned wizardry by dropping the energy levels a bit, the smiles and joyous vibes his intelligent and happy grooves brought to the floor sure made up for it! He brought more than a few people back to life, including myself, who thought they were sapped of energy…a magician for sure… There were apparently dual video feeds traded between our party and one at the same time in Boston. Between the glowing crowd, the green lasers, the lights, and the electric sheep projections, ours looked like it was coming from at least another dimension, if not just a different planet! Wow great job Ben and Scott!! Music was excellent as was the pro sound system which blasted out each choon powerfully, clean and crispy – that Allen $ Heath mixer 28th day has got me drooling each time I see it, and I am sure it’s internal sound card only helped boost the superior sound that night… It was refreshing and revitalizing to see true trance spirit embodied in a party – in all it’s potential aspects, with none lacking – at a time when it seems to be hit or miss around here lately…. @ 28th Day crew – I strongly believe that great parties are only fully manifested when the intent and energy of those contributing are in the right place and frame of reference, and its quite obvious that you guys are doing what is necessary see the old-school powerfully positive spirit be revitalized in NYC!!! For that I, and I am sure MANY others, THANK YOU!!! Seriously, thanks to all involved for a killer party! By the way, I saw WAYYY to many cameras and videocams for people not to post them here!!! what good are pic/vids if u don’t share…

I remember the last time Colin was at CoSM the chillout section was totally empty when he was playing – I mean even the DJ there had simply put a CD on and was dancing at the main section … for obvious reasons I hope the same does not happen this time (Collin looks like I am going to have to hide your case logic or something Super good party The chill room by the coat check had this Dj play a sorta hip-hoppish track and a lotta people just went crazy. Anybody know what that track was? The girl in the main chill lounge really had brilliant taste, played a nice remix of ‘Fever’ and some other wonderful tunes. Droozi finished off with some awesome chill tracks, very groovy. Colin owned the main room from the get go.. fabulous sound, this guy makes some intelligent powerful music. The painters were incredible, the people were happy and overall the party had just a fantastic atmosphere. Good to finally see a few old faces as well. It was an amazing, amazing party! One of the best ones ever. Music, people, decoration, energy, mood…. everything was perfect. Loved every minute of it. Thank you Pedro and everyone involved. Neotrancer, it was so great to finally meet you. Hope to see you soon and chat a little longer next time Thanks for the beautiful pictures. p.s. who was this fantastic DJ with her magical music selection? Vey beautiful girl too. It made me happy to see so many people having such a good time at this party! I haven’t danced that much in a while! And also was a fun experience playing chillout in the chapel for a change hehe….Thanks especially to Theo, Pedro, & Eli for helping to make this party happen…you guys rock That was fun! Thanks, everyone for your kind words – despite being jetlagged to blazes (plus late nights last week working on tracks for the set) I just about managed to hold it together on the night, thanks to our good friend Mr. Red Bull! CoSM is a great venue and it was awesome to finally be able to have a proper look around the testament to a primary religious experience that is the Chapel – and to pass a few words with Alex Grey himself! With any luck he is now in possession of a copy of our album. Such a good feeling to be able to provide some small degree of inspiration to someone who is themselves an inspirational figure for so many. Despite missing a fair bit of the music (I spent a few hours here and there trying – mainly unsuccessfully – to get some rest before my set) I thought the main room progressed very well, starting out chilled and electro, then progressing through the housier, ever-so-slightly lower-fi sound of Animaltek (I really liked the way they ran their live set, loads of interaction) then the higher-energy sounds of Patchbay which left the door open for me to do my thing; it certainly made for a rocking party with a whole bunch of very happy people! Thanks once again to the 28thday crew for having me over to play, to Lauryn especially for putting me up during my stay, to Alex Grey and CoSM for existing in the first place, and to everyone there who made the party what it was. You all rock.

I’m not sure if there’s anything psychedelic left in this so-called progressive “psy”…in fact I’m not sure there’s much progressive left in it either, more just electro and house…but good vibes matter a lot, and I’m sure they were there. Pena is definitely one of the most influential DJs for this style and his set for Omnitribe at Fun-0-Matic years ago is hard to forget. I’ve seen Pena, a bunch back home, he is progressive housy psy, I think he is really top notch even though that kind of progressive isn’t my cup of tea.. I like psychedelic groove proggy, not the electrotype, I didn’t go cause I didn’t know about this… would have like to see an old friendly face. but im sure it was all positive Pena’s set included tracks from perfect stranger and other more psy oriented prog artists… we asked him if it would be possible to hear some material from his collection from the psy end of the spectrum, and I thought he did a great job… the set will be streaming off our event archives in a week or so for those of you who couldn’t make it out. Thanx to everybody who did… this event was a lot of fun. Special thanx to Eli from COSM for enabling this for us, and to everybody who stuck around after to help us break down… these events would be impossible without you. specially Pena’s one was maybe the best set so far this year. mix skills, structure of track selection, everything was just world-class. Looking forward to next one!

His delving into the psychedelic consciousness has left him with a deep desire to, in his words, “search for a forgotten truth.” At this exhibit he shares the walls of MicroCoSM with six other outstanding photographers: Nancy Burson, Sequoia Emmanuelle, Zena Grey, Dean Chamberlain, Dercik Ion and Andrew Zuckerman. Coming back to life France Tranceam Am Gallery is back and restored, plus new tracks by Velvet Acid Christ After a severe server-side failure in January, everything had to be restored from backup. Also check out the amazing tracks by Velvet Acid Christ, towards the bottom of the playlist. web tranceam.org On a personal note, after our renovation at the old apartment (carpets removed) even walking on the floor at odd hours got to be too much for the co-op. We were evicted and now have resettled in what can euphemistically be called Far East Williamsburg, i.e. Bushwick, a block from where 28th Day had Prog in the Park. That’s why I haven’t been active at all. I’ve been depressed over the suicide of one of my best friends, Wilson Leary plus Olly’s twin brother’s suicide last Sunday. Dreamcatcher parties could always make you sweat on a weeknight! Glad to see they’re back!!! Looking forward to some good vibes music and energy with the good Dr. Lu and friends! So yeah, they completely renovated, expanded, and upgraded the whole place recently, including, (most importantly) a brand new sound system custom-designed and built apparently by Core Audio. I found the following interesting reference to their sound redesign on another site forum. Sounds like the “new” venue and sound system, along with the intent that went into this redesign is perfectly and appropriately fitted for psytrance – our tribe and especially the beats our local (and tropical!) wizards will surely come strapped with should get a warm welcome with open arms… there’s an addition to the lineup, our dear partner in crime Mr Brandon Adams will join us in the end along with Luis and Vince(juggernaut)for a special back-to-back set. Set times will be posted later SEE YOU ALL THERE.

I was at that show. Jumped on the stage when Skazi was finished and had a little chat with em, cool guy, great memory. – Mark Lorenz
I had higher hopes for this long-awaited set from Mr. Peculiar and his new side project Hyperception…. $$$$$$$ will be made but does Skazi really belong on the same lineup as legitimate trance artists anymore? long-standing plans for a proper Mr. Peculiar party have seemingly been hijacked at the last second through some underhanded tactics. correct info for the party should read: Mr. Peculiar LIVE (Sonic Dragon, Australia) & Hyperception DJ set (Australia) there will also be additional local psytrance DJs It was nice to finally see Skazi out of curiosity and to witness Asher’s show of big arm movements and pre-recorded guitar riffs but the set was FRUSTRATING!!! Build-up-build-up-1min of beats-break-30sec of beats-break-beats-transition and hear the crowd cheer for Skazi-repeat. My BF doubled over in laughter when Asher decided to do his hero jump and his cable unplugged. Mr. Peculiar was a good set and had me stomping nicely. I hope to see him again soon. I also enjoyed the live shows on the stage, those are always fun. I generally enjoyed myself but stayed on the balcony most of the night.
Tsunami, who was on its way down at this point, was initially planning this event with Webster Hall, without Skazi. El Nadiv, who somehow had Skazi lined up and in town for a gig, swooped in mostly successfully to hijack the party. It was a mess, made it easy for JEG to fade back and neglect his share of responsibility/ accountability for what happened after.
Brandon Adams paid out of pocket the entire booking fee of ~$1200 straight cash for Mr. Peculiar, as he was driving him and gf to the airport out of town. John was gonna let the guy, who came on tour from Australia, leave town without a single dollar paid – the amount Brandon ended up paying, between a rock and a hard place.

Ariel – Psychedelic Electro-Tech – DJ Set / Live – Domain Matrix, G+ Records, www.gplusrecords.com // Germany For over 15 years German production duo Jan and Marcus as X-Dream have been on the cutting edge of electronic music, constantly pushing the boundaries that others were afraid to push. Jan has recently been joined by American run-away artist Ariel to form Prime Suspect and tonight they may surprise us with some of their newest projects! With a spacious extended set for the crafting of a full musical journey, expect a powerful expression of the creative spirit which has made X-Dream one of the most influential and revered acts in progressive and psychedelic tech-trance. Sometimes labeled “Voodoo Techno”, his sound actually varies from release to release. Whether it is a tech-house classic like “Baile Conmigo”, freaked out noise funk on the label Tonewrecker with Paul Birken, experimental chillout with group Carlito Verde, or a dubbed out techno stormer like “Yadda Yadda Yadda” his sound never quite gets pigeonholed. DJing in the early 1990s his next step was that to producing in 1996 and then progressively to Live PAs in 1997. He hasn’t looked back to DJing since. Nobody came. But Jan and Animaltek totally rocked the house regardless! No complaints about the music Can’t wait till they come back and play again!
Oh my God, the set Jan Muller of X-Dream played was so outstanding, for me it was full-on psy, but it was so new, so original if you ask me it charted a whole new course in psytrance. My whole musical understanding is revolutionized and my entire life changed and enriched by the set of this person, whom I thank. Thanks for asking. :]

Shane did the magic again! After listening to him last yr back to back (Gaian Mind & Eclipse), I was kind of skeptical that whether the indoor venue will be able to do justice!!! But from “M00ther Fu6king Bassline” to “Nuc1er Device”, it was just awesome. Also, it was nice to see some vibrant energy on the dancefloor! 😉 [though there were many newcomers/unknow that …]Anyway, at last, thanks to Gavin! thank u for an amazing party…… I never heard Gobi b4, I know, shame on me! but… I am happy I had a chance now…. I had no idea ho amazing he can be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hope to hear him outdoors one day…. thank u , thank u, thank u, namaste, arigato, spasibo!!! and to everyone who was stomping around in a busy crowd…lol kicking me sometimes lovingly! got there a bit late, but had a great time! why there was a line outside Shelter AFTER the police shut the club down, I will never understand… What a great weekend!!! I had a good time at the party. It was nice to see everyone come out as usual. The venue was different. It didn’t feel like a club but more like someone’s really big loft, very cozy. It was nice to see Kenji again and Shane was the highlight of the night. Can anyone explain why the cops busted the party? Thankfully it was after the trance was over but still…I was having fun Besides that little obstacle, the party practically continued in my apt and then finished the weekend off at Mayday in Union Square. It was really nice to see lots-o-trance, raver and burner friends coming out for another nice party.

National Psy-Trance Calendar TripOutNY’s format as you know has evolved over time. For years I maintained a newsletter. This proved to be an inefficient use of time and was always second-hand information. So within the past 6 months all NYC organizers are able to post their event once on this list, directly, so that wi th one very low volume account you get just the events, no BS. Thanks to all organizers as none have abused their moderator posting rights. Now, even though the format is so late 1990s, periodically this email will go out that covers the national scene; every effort will be made to keep it updated but for up to date info by the promoters themselves see the forum on tranceam.org or isratrance.
Namaste and Greetings What is up people? Summer is rolling around the corner, well it looks like NY is having some parties again after a being quiet for a week or two, Boston is kicking as usual, hmm GAI AN MIND in Philly too as well as the upcoming 10-year party in Atlantic City, NJ. Launch of Reality Sandwich
Daniel Pinchbeck’s new psychedelic literary venture! Hi folks, I am writing to introduce you to Reality Sandwich (web realitysandwich), a new web magazine. I am the editorial director for the site, and I am very happy with what we have assembled so far. Reality Sandwich is a place for exploring many aspects of our physical and psychic realities that are ignored and avoided by the media. As the author of two books on indigenous shamanism and psychedelic substances – 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (Penguin, 2006) and Breaking Open the Head (Broadway Books, 2002) – I have felt the lack of a cultural forum that could bridge between the alternative realms and mainstream culture. I hope that Reality Sandwich will fill that gap. Please check out Reality Sandwich, and if you like what you see, tell your friends about it. We hope to create an active community, and eventually, a social network that will allow for deeper engagement among people around the world who are interested in these topics. I look forward to hearing your reactions, comments, story ideas, and criticisms. Our tagline is: “Evolving consciousness, bite by bite.” About Reality Sandwich: Reality Sandwich covers topics from sustainability to shamanism, alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies. It hopes to spark debate and engagement by offering a forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary. Reality Sandwich includes news, reflective essays, arts, interviews, podcasts, and forums. Counteracting the doom-and-gloom of the daily news, the site is a platform for perspectives conveying a different vision of the transformations we face. Among the more than 40 current contributors are: Daniel Pinchbeck, Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, Elizabeth Thompson (Director of the Buckminster Fuller Institute), The Yes Men, David Rothenberg, Douglas Rushkoff, John Jay Harper, Kaliya Hamlin, Henri Poole, Andrew Boyd (Billionaires for Bush), Aline Duriaud, Ken Jordan, Jonathan Phillips, Melinda Wenner, Andy Dale, and Michael Brownstein. Reality Sandwich is built with Drupal, the popular open source online publishing system, by the free and open-source software consultants CivicActions. Please forward this announcement to those who will be interested. Yours, Daniel Hi folks, I am writing to introduce you to Reality Sandwich (web realitysandwich), a new web magazine. Last night’s live performance (dress rehearsal) by both bigwigs and kino oko in toronto was !!!!! absolutely amazing. makes me even more excited to hear what the grandmasters have in store for the fortunate few who decided take advance preps to attend our special event. Very sweet party. Decor was amazing, even without the panoramic view of some of NYC’s finest graffiti artists. Brilliant, eclectic music all night, with great sets as well from Vadim and Shai. Most in attendance actually missed the headline act, which made hearing Bigwigs with sunlight streaming through the windows ever more intimate and enchanting. Truly a unique and highly psychedelic event with very good vibes. Other organizers take note: $1 water, free breakfast, sound that doesn’t shred your eardrums, and a truly underground location make the party. Oh yeah, and some seriously twisted sounds and grooves from Poland didn’t hurt either. Much love and respect, Gravy Thank you to all who came out and made this event a reality. Special shout outs to and in no particular order, Zoran, Alan of Metrosound, Anthony F., Christine, Luther & Donna, Tony of 28th day, Serge, Leonid A, Ron, Raheem, Fitz, Bigwigs, Kino oko, Vadim, Shay and everyone who attended.

What a Blast.. Gil was in a beautiful headspace that he so kindly shared with us. The music just got better and better so did the dance floor. Deerfields is definitely one of the most prime places to go on this journey of trance dance. So cheers to Goa Gil for showing us once again the meaning of Goa and Psychedelic!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait for next time… Thank you “Those People” and “ATL Psy” for all of your hard work and love… I had a most amazing night. Gil took me on a journey that was just perfectly where I needed to be. I tended fire for the first time and it was a pleasure to bring warmth and energy to the dance floor. Thank you everyone that came out. Deerfields is truly a little bit of the paradise. Fucking amazing gathering. Atl psy, those people, and project seven set the perfect setting for the unforgettable experience — big thank you to everyone who contributed! Deerfields was as it always is – a superabundance of smiling familiar faces, warm vibes shaking the ground, and blissful twisted tunes. The ‘trancefloor’ was the killer though. Gil was neurotic from the beginning. He continued his madness (and his cute swaying of the hips) pumping nothing less that 150 for 24 mind tantalizing hours. I am pretty sure he speeded that shit up when the sun came up. I know everyone who was on the dancefloor felt the burn the following day. Excellently compiled party. boom, lexi WOW…So three weeks later and finally I am back on the map!!! Gil thank you for sharing your light in abundance with us all at this event…after all it would not be a Gil Party without you !!! and thank you to all of the dancers/trancers/swimmers/smilers/gigglers/fire dancers/decorators and extended family members from far and wide who came and supported this community event….. The dancefloor floored me …the music was absolutely just amazing and we could not have handpicked a more wonderful group of people to share this with ourselves!!! Thank You Thank You Thank You……Hope to see you all at Deerfields again for World Bridge 2 in August…..

INFECTED MUSHROOM Live at Webster Hall
CD Release party: Doors Open: 10pm 19+ For advance tickets call 1917405484 7 or 9175691177 web alladinproject.net web websterhall
So…Infected live, ah? First off, all due respect to all who were a part of this party, but…Webster Hall is the worst place to throw psy parties. Everything about it is just very commercial in a really bad way too, well that’s why they only book big acts there (makes sense). Especially the demographic, and the “vibe” there has no connection what so ever to “psychedelic”. 2nd off, seeing Infected Live seemed to be interesting at first, but…I was very disappointed. I expected some new rmx’s of old classics, and maybe 2-3 trax with vocals, Maximum, as much as it is not my style. But almost every track was filled with bad vocals and guitar mayhem(which was actually nicely played) but not my preferred style of “psy”. This was purely a bad imitation of a rock concert. Plus…they were joined by exotic dancing ladies and some flame tricks. I actually got more of a kick from the girls than the actual show itself. But all in all…people enjoyed it, no doubt about it. Infected Mushroom intend to rock everywhere they go…and they do. Their music is more like Psychedelic Electro Rock and not Psy-Trance…But I think you already knew that…didn’t you? In the end, even if we don’t like it for what it is, people have fun and smile on the dance floor…and that’s always priceless! Dj Brandon played nice music as always, but during mid-Infected, We had to get out of there asap. I bet ElNadiv played some good tunes as well, too bad we could not take it for another second
I just saw Infected Mushroom at Coachella….and again I am disappointed….even more than the last time I saw them. They are getting progressively worse. It doesn’t sound psychedelic nor trance. The bald guy (sorry don’t know his name) has completely taken over the stage by having his mouth glued to the mic saying “uh, ya, come on” and other annoying things that completely cover up the music. It almost seems like he wants to go solo…which I hope he does. He ruins the show. Of course, they did use their infamous distorted guitar riffs, but even that wasn’t as exciting as when I saw them over a year ago at the House of Blues in Hollywood. I recommend not wasting your time with this event and let the people who actually enjoy listening to that dude to go to the show. I am not exaggerating, they were terrible. I still can’t believe this change in sound. I truly loved classical mushroom, the gathering, and even parts of BP Empire, but this show will not include anything from those albums, so don’t expect to hear anything good from them. Just trying to give my piece of mind to spare everyone the disappointment that I had.

This resulted in his interpretation of nature’s expression of being, establishing a playing style that is dronal ambient, downtempo and improvisational. Explosions in technology and software have enabled him to explore the edges of contemporary music production, and a sound has developed which draws from the psychedelic community as well as the experimental/IDM community. Beautiful party! I’m still hearing Bluetech’s fantastic music. His signature melodies took me far, far away to the land of fairies, gnomes, elves and magical creatures. Pedro’s set was great. I was impressed by his music. Really beautiful and deep. Thank you Pedro for such an amazing event. Thank you all! It was a great way to leave NYC! the dark killer stuff is the reason I went. bass goin up up up and down down down twas quite a workout orestis knew how to work the PA properly; it wasn’t too loud when I got there for his set. …but I always bring earplugs just in case the DJs get too enthusiastic with the volume knob; you can actually hear more detail with them on when PAs get worked beyond their capacity. Wow !!!!! Orestis was unbelievable! Fria was out of control! What a great party all the way — well run, the sound was powerful, great artists. I’m floored and inspired. Warm thanks to everybody involved who made this one of the best parties I have been to in a long time!!! the sound was great, clear and strong, the venue was chill with no hassles, and the music… holy shit the music… orestis’ set was an astounding treat, real artistry and subtlety, huge power, deep moods, and great connection to the crowd. but even if he hadn’t been there, it would have still been a killer party, because tachyon, vish, and fria all delivered outstanding sets. I had such a great time! So many new faces and it was great to see so many old friends and students crawling out of the woodwork after finals. Vish played an awesome set and Orestis was simply amazing. I would hope to hear him again in the states soon because he really had a nice sound. It was nice to finally meet Fria and see her perform(I just hope you don’t disappear on us!) Sound was amazing but a bit too powerful for my dainty ears. I would really love to hear such a sound system in the forest, resonating through the trees or across a field. besides earplugs at parties ARE a good investment. Hope to see the flea market again. There was some really nice stuff out there especially the message chair, ahhhhh! I can’t even remember the last time I went to a party that was that good – thank you!!!!!!!!!! The sound was just booming and the venue was off the hook (hehe)! Up until now I haven’t favored the darker psy but now I can’t get enough! Thank you Metaforce, I’m counting the days ’til the next one – gwyn I also thank Orestes for his powerful and very enjoyable performance. I think I am known though in New York as Fria’s biggest fan! She played as if she were saving the planet from an oncoming asteroid and the only force strong to stop it would be music that would be so mathematically complex and mysterious that it would disintegrate it before it hit earth! Fria, You are the Michelangelo, Dostoevsky, Michael Jordan, Buddha, Tchaikovski, Mozart, etc…. of the Psytrance scene oh, I just wanted to add one thing before this thread passes into obscurity. now, I may have totally imagined this, in which case, ignore it and I’m dumb and don’t hate me too much, but I think I didn’t. I think orestis lowered the levels slightly before his set. not only was this the right decision, in terms of how loud (though clear) the speakers were, but it also shows great confidence, and I respect it on both levels. just another reason why this party went off so well. I think it’d be great if DJs made a habit of standing in the crowd and thinking to themselves where they’d like the volume to be before they started. jus’ sayin’. cheers.

Special Guest: SOLOMOON (Metameme / Onetribe / Esoteric Gen – Denver) Solomoon’s world was completely transformed in 1993 when he fatefully discovered the global movement of Goa-trance. He immediately knew this music was a timeless language that transcended not only musical genres, but also cultures and the delicate timeline of humanity. He began spinning in 1994, born from Unity Tribe and a co-founder of the psy-collective Esoteric Gen in Fayetteville, Arkansas, later helping found Metameme and OneTribe Productions in Denver, Colorado. From Burning Man and across the US to Cape Town, South Africa, and Goa, India he has enjoyed sharing this ancient ritual of trance-dance with nomads from around the globe. And in the unlikely event of rain, we’ll have the dance floor covered by an 815-square-foot covered geodesic dome! ADDED: Karmakanik! None of us heard Pat Karmakanik throw down a positively banging prog set last weekend, but if we had we’d probably use it as fodder to excite you about his upcoming set at Inflo. Gates open 2PM Saturday. Bring your tents, camping gear, chairs, food, drink, and whatever other accouterments you need for an extended journey. We’ll begin with chillout music a bit later on Saturday afternoon, then start up the trance at 11PM. It was a fucking blast. I was right in front of the stage all the time dancing. I cant understand where did I get so much energy from. I dont do nuthing to stimulate me but the music they played was fucking out of the world and hit my mind and I danced continously for 2 days. People had good vibes with eachother smilling faces. The Dance circle was the play ground for people like me who became kids without remembering anything they were just dancing. Love & Peace IcycoiL I went! What an incredible experience . . . Fantastic to reconnect with so many friends I had not seen in years! Did not see one person who looked like they were not having fun. Saturday night the music was ridiculously good . It was dark but not in an evil way. SUPER PSYCHEDELIA! I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I especially loved the music by whomever played before Yab Yum, but I also enjoyed Yab Yum’s live set (again dark and psychedelic without sounding evil). AMD played a fun booty shakin’ set in the morning – very fun and groovaliciously bassy. Not sure who continued DJing after Laila (Laila, who did a wonderful job of taking us through Saturday morning) but he was cranking it out! Was it one of the guys from AMD? Dick Trevor (before Laila, after AMD) played a true to style Dick Trevor set. It was a lot of fun to listen to as he is truely a master at what he does. I feel so spoiled now! Free coffee/tea 24/7. NICE bathrooms with a never ending supply of toilet paper. Running water. What more can a woman ask for? The chillout was the NICEST chillout I have ever seen at any festival/party hands down. I think my mouth dropped to the floor when we first drove past it on our way in Friday. Didn’t get to spend as much time in chillout world as I would have liked – I kept running into people I couldn’t wait to reconnect with, as well as meet for the first time! Such beautiful people at this festival. I feel like we all could have started our own fashion magazine this weekend! . We camped at Member’s Camp due to a lack of space, and I am so glad we did! It was so peaceful and serene down there. Not to mention a lot more space! Was an inner battle climbing up and down the “thigh burning hill” all weekend, especially in the dark! Note to self; bring a flashlight next year! Can’t wait until next year. THANK YOU to everyone who made, and continues to make this magical event happen!!!!!!!!!!!! Well…I was having a very good time until Saturday morning sometime during Human Blue’s set. I’m not going to go into too many details but basically I drank a bunch of rum then had a couple shots of jager and before I knew it, I was passed out in front of my tent. When I woke up it was sometime in the early afternoon then I ended up throwing up for about 15 hours. I deeply apologize to the people who had to hear me do all that. My friends and camping neighbors were really helpful and nice which was greatly appreciated. My husband was pretty upset with me (and I think he still is) for my actions. He told me that I am to never touch any alcohol again. And I don’t ever want to. all I can say is wow!!!! this was my 2nd Gaian Mind Festy and it was awesome!!! We camped right on next to the ambient stage for some awesome non-stop chill beats! Deco was out of control on both stages! Great dancefloor energy! and yab-yum’s set ripped my mind apart, one of the best live sets I’ve heard in a while, eitan-san played a great set as well with one particularly trippy song in the middle that made his whole set. The vibe was great I had a great relaxing weekend, seeing many good friends and meeting some new interesting people. The land also makes this festival what it is, it is a beautiful spot in the woods, with not too much sun! Thanks Gaian Mind and 4 Quarter!! see you all next year! here was really no way the sound could have been louder given the noise constraints…that being said, I was very happy with the sound…clean and clear as was mentioned, loud and full enough to feel and could end the night without ringing ears. Moving on, the festival was damn near perfect. Big thanks to everyone @ Gaian Mind for their professional effort. Music was on point pretty much the whole time, and I liked how the “headliners” were split up between both nights. Aphid Moon/AMD/Dickster was the absolute highlight for me, and Human Blue provided a great nostalgic set. The only drawbacks I can think of were the lack of food and some actions of the 4Q staff. Looking forward to the next one, but if there isn’t, I’d say things ended on the best note possible! My first Gaian MInd FEst, and I loved it, nice people, beautiful location and setup. loved the fact that there was no music during the day, and everyone could relax. must say I was a little upset about parking and the food situation, $35 dollars to park by the main stage is rediculous if the tickets were $135 already, also the meal plan? all that together is like over $200 dollars way to much money for this festival. all that shoul;d have been included , or atleast parking. who pays to park? I think there was no food sold purposly so people would buy these meal plans, kinda pissed. but over all nice time , thanx everyone at 4q and Gaian Mind crew The quality of the sound on the main floor was inversely proportional to the cost of the event. GMSF charges one of the highest entry fees among psy festivals in the entire world (in total, per # of nights, and # of artists) and yet the sound was very disappointing. Who could appreciate Yub Yum, when the chatter of the crowd was almost louder than the music? On the positive side, the food with the meal plan was mostly good (but pricey), the toilets were cleaned daily and supplied with toilet paper. Recycling! All these things were good and an improvement over last year, but we came for the music… I wouldn’t mistake quality vs. quantity… K. Soze is right about finding the right spots on the dancefloor, as well. of course all of us would like more dB’s to pound our eardrums… — but for anyone who has not yet realized, the careful control of levels (even going so far as to compensate for thermal effects upon sound as the temperature changes throughout the night), as well as the phase cancellation technique demonstrated by nick’s diagram are the only things keeping the local authorities from pulling the plug on the music altogether. thanks for a great festy, Kri and I enjoyed playing, although unfortunately I was pretty much completely taken over by a stomach-bug from Saturday night until sometime yesterday… eek! first of all….. THANK YOU SO MUCH to Gaian Mind and those who treated us with great kindness from four quarters…. It’s their fucking home, and as I understand, they intend to keep it as beautiful as it is for many generations, we were their guests, and we had to play by their very reasonable rules….. that aside, open container restrictions SUCK lol The music….holy shnikes…. the darkness was SUPERB (yabyyum’s live pa, anyone??? OUCH) and loopus in fabula played the absolute funniest, funkiest music mine ears hath ever heard, the Nano boys brought Sunday to church, and Leila DJ…..she is an inspiration on a lot of levels and could have danced forEVER if I didn’t have a life to return to here in arkansas…. Ok I am finally back from the post-festival wrap up and there is much chatter on the forums! Eg-bot and I were the first there and nearly the very last to leave, and I must say that this past week and a half of my life was awesome!!!! Great people, music, vibes, weather etc. I am glad to see that so many people have such strong feelings about so many topics regarding this festy. I guess we made an impression. Though I believe some points have been focused on a little to heavily. SOUND: Four Quarters has strict volume constraints placed on them by both their neighbors and municipalities. The sound level of the main dance floor has been acurately measured with professional equipment and has stayed at the same exact level for the past 3 years ( within 2 dB ). the Sonic Beating crew continues to provide Gaian Mind with the sound system because of the QUALITY of service they deliver. This is a professional company with many years of sound reinforcement experience. FEES: there seemed to be some confusion about some of the fees Everyone with access to the internet had the same opportunity to purchase the early bird tickets from the Gaian Mind website www.gaian-mind.com for roughly $85, then the price went up a month later to (I believe) $110 and again at the gate, the tix were $135. well 85 bux for 4 days of camping on Four Quarters land with clean, hot showers, clean flush toilets, and almost 50 DJ/live acts strategically sequenced throughout those four days, with world class deco and workshops scheduled I can see how that is unreasonable……. $21.25 a day for camping fees, world class tunes, and a place to get a hot shower after dancing. jeeeeeeez how can I pay my mortgage after that!?!?!?!? Parking was FREE in the parking area, there were parking permits sold for designated areas, but main parking was always free (to my knowledge) The four quarters meal plan provided fresh, healthy food for about 8 dollars a meal ( where everyone was welcome to enjoy a second serving after firsts were served ) or you could purchase an individual meal for $10. This sounds very fair to me. believe me, if it could be free – IT WOULD be free if it could be louder – IT WOULD be louder if it could be prefect weather – IT WOULD prefect weather My closest friends and I have worked very hard for a very long time to bring this festival to life year after year and it seems to continually get smoother. A large part of me IS this festival. I only wish to accomidate as many people as possible wile operating within reasonable paramaters. I hope not to “pick any scabs” or respark the fire of debate with anything I have mentioned earlier in this post. I feel that some posts on this thread may be misleading to individuals who did not have the opportunity to experience this truly remarkable event for themselves. I personally want to thank everyone who came, and everyone who contributed. It all makes a difference. I will see you in the stones next year Rory Fractal Phono Rory put it all very well, but I would like to elaborate on a couple of points. to the people complaining about paying $135: gimme a break! everybody had 2 weeks to purchase early bird tix for $85 (a $50 discount), and nearly 3 months to purchase advance tix for $110 (a $25 discount). If you got stuck paying the full door price, you have only yourself to blame. Why do organizers generally charge more at the gate? Basically it has to do with cash flow, logistics, and the time value of money. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_value_of_money http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash_flow Essentially, the more people buy advance tickets, the more accurate an idea the organizers have of how many will be attending, and the more positive cash flow they have to cover festival expenses up front. Parking is and has always been free in the main parking area. Four Quarters (NOT Gaian Mind) charges an extra fee for “car camping” for several reasons, a) to discourage people from driving cars around the campsites, b) to save the limited camping space for actual campers, not their vehicles. All the extra camping fees, meal plans, etc. are assessed by Four Quarters and go directly to them. Complaining to Gaian Mind about it is like complaining to your boss that your paycheck is less than it should be because the government took out taxes. -yab yum liveset closely followed by primordial ooze had the best sets imo! aphid moon was good also, but the 6 hours got to be too much considering him and dick treavor and amd all have the same style… a good chance to sit down mostly… loopus was fun as usual… also enjoyed telepathik aka rain! though I think he may be better in the morning/afternoon though… -as far as DJ sets go, solomoon ripped it as usual! the rest we slept thru hehehe -leila DJ has mad staying power and very consistent style … basically so consistent that it became boring… I think to carry thru til 6pm it would have been great to hear something fresh toward the end. hmm, it would have been nice to have DJ gaspard take us into the afternoon!! – blah blah blah volume is always an issue at 4qf and I think you dont know how good you have it considering the mad scientists running the sound. it was honestly a bit louder than it should have been a few times! -the chill sound was nice thanks to il bastardo for bringing his new QSCs – and a double thanks to Steve O for asking me to fill in his DJ set! good thing I came prepared… to those who danced during sat 7-9 am in the chillout, thanks! -kilowatts had great sounds in the chillout… everyone else sounded good from my camp! – ill be bringing all my own food next year I just dont think the meal plan is good enough to warrant paying 10$ a plate. not to mention the 2 hours when the meal is available is not enough time to get there and eat sometimes, and honestly the good stuff is gone well before the meal is “over”… my only complaint! -as far as the cost of the ticket… if you must complain about the gate price, buy a presale. nuff said. -thanks to everyone who bought a tshirt! – I also enjoyed the opening and closing ceremonies, it was good to have some fresh energy from colorado leading the movement! -it was great to see all the familiar faces and all the new ones! what a great tribe we have! Major props and mad love for the Gaian Mind crew. Once again another nearly flawless festival that I can think of nothing short of Christmas. This year the festival seemed a bit more calm and chill this year but I still had a fRiCkiN blast!!!! It was so nice to meet up with friends from the NE area, see people that I run into once a year, every year and meet some amazing new people and see new faces. This year I think I was able to reap the more spiritual benefits of the festival and the land we stomped on. For the most part I enjoyed the artists but I enjoyed the music during the day more than at night. Friday night was impossible with the cold, I was frozen on the end of a stick until morning. I was unaware of Loopus’ funky soul-trance style but It was just the bounce I needed. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way but I was not into Yab-Yum’s set Maybe I was expecting something else but it was far too minimal for me. The base lines were really dark and trippy but I didn’t hear much else and wasn’t able to get “into” it. It was Aphid-Dickster-Moon that brought me around and I enjoyed Dj Leila’s festival ending Marathon. This year I actually forced myself to go to the chill-out area at night and it’s a whole different world down there. It’s really magical and almost like a UV lit fairy-tale!! The music was suprizingly good as well. Only suprizing to me though. As for the sound, I thought it was lower than in the past but it was still clear, I don’t think it was muffled or anything. I was a bit sceptical of the sound lay-out aaanndddd kind of remained so afterwards. It was previously mentioned that the sound was better from a distance and I got the same feeling. During Eg-bot’s set I was at my camp bouncing around the campfire and said duh-I’ll go bounce on the dancefloor but when I got there some of the sounds I was previously hearing weren’t there anymore. How does that work? I don’t have a problem with the door price, there was a nice cheap pre-sale offered in advance. I decided to pay for in-camp parking over the nice-free parking because I wanted to. I always bring my own food just because I enjoy the freedom of cooking what, when, and how I want. Also I like that we pay our money and OPTIONAL fees and see things springing up like those awesome toilets. I liked not being greeted by a mound of diahrea(sp) everytime I went to tinkle. There is also talk of in camp internet and reception for next year, good stuff folks. My only gripe is with the Four Quarters Staff. I heard and even witnessed some pretty upsetting stuff about how the staff were treating people. Acting like TOTAL PRICKS for no reason, picking arguements, enforcing sudden and inconsistent regulations, giving false information and making nasty comments. I understand it is their home and they call the final shots but from what I understand(correct me if I’m wrong) they make a BUTTLOAD of money off of us SO I have a very BIG problem with handing my bux over to someone who is going to treat me like crap! Four Quarters has found a place in my heart but if our presence is THAT much of a problem then they shouldn’t have us there OR they could at least fake thier sincerity until we leave. With that said, What are the dates for next year? ust got back this afternoon to hot sticky Tokyo after a looong flight on the very half-assed Delta Airline. Jet-lagged, body aching, and still feeling elated. I had the best time I can remember ever having at the Gaian Mind festival. Pulling it together without some of our key players from previous years presented us with a challenge right from the get-go that was at times overwhelming to think about before we got to get started… but everybody stepped up and we managed to throw it all together with even a few upgrades like making the stage bigger, all the while singing “pretty good now, yup alright!” and with minimum frustration in the process. And learning from last year, the stage was well prepared for heavy rain… which never came!!! Then the party… I especially loved Primordial Ooze, YY, and Eg-Bot’s sets… and it was my first time hearing Facehead and I enjoyed it. Solomoon rocked the Sat. morning sunrise, and Shapestatic’s set was also a nice groovy balance treading between minimal and old-school Goa with lots of subtle psychedelic sounds. I got to enjoy Saturday daytime too without being too tired, for the first time Saw many old and new friends, walked around, even got a chance to sit in on Daniel Pinchbeck’s talk, which I enjoyed very much… I hope he can keep coming back. Dancing with everyone on Sunday morning was just incredible. I enjoyed meeting so many awesome people and reconnecting with old friends… I had the biggest smile on my face the entire time and couldn’t wipe it off even if I did want to try… actually I did try a couple of times and then just decided to leave it alone I may be biased about the deco, but I do think Mimi outdid herself yet again. Yeah, that was her all week on the top rung of the huge ladder that takes at least two people to move, with one foot on the top rung and the other wrapped around a tree while tying something up above her head. And popping all those extra blacklights up on Sat. night that were perfectly placed, without even creating a slight disturbance on the dancefloor to do it… wow! The chillout was fantastic… pristine sound, great music, a whole big playground… all the artists came together to create such an awesome space. Peter Parker provided a really nice space on the covered stage with mattresses and projections. …and I got to see my brother, whom I have not seen in over 2 years. It’s hard when we all live so far away from each other, but he made it happen, had a great time, and hopped freight trains back to Florida. So I have tons of gratitude to everyone who came, danced, had good conversations and shared moments on the dancefloor, played, and helped to create some magic that will long be remembered. I feel so lucky to be a small part of it. Finally, I can’t express enough what it meant to dance with Ananda, Shanti, Allen and Melanie in the Stone Circle! For me, that’s what the whole thing was about this year. I had a fantastic time at the festival. Yeah, the sound was low, but still crystal clear throughout the nights. Was alright with me, especially when Yab-Yum’s music unexpectedly snatched me directly out of my body, only to return a couple hours later refreshed – if not a bit disoriented. Primordial Ooze, and Shapestatic – two incredible North American acts that are going to go very far. I’m just now getting to listen to Shapestatic’s new album on the new GM imprint, and it’s by far some of the cleanest, most satisfying aural assaults I’ve heard. Slick. And even slicker – proper use of teh 303. Was excellent to see Eitan again, and to hear what sounds Japan has provided him. Was also excellent to hear Chuck’s material in 6.1 fashion. Aligning Minds drenched the North Crook stage with some great sounds, as did Phuture Primitive. I heard Blue Spectral Monkey did an unexpected set, but I was unfortunately elsewhere at the time. Thanks to everyone who came to hear my set, and thanks to Anand, who handled the mic with his rock-solid lyrical cyphering. It was awesome to see the power of the human voice in action at the festival, speaking of consciousness and other gaian-friendly things. I’m also glad I got to bang some new Skeetaz material during the 2nd half of my set, rudely defying the definition of ‘chill-out’. Thanks for a great time – everyone! Love, Jamie Best festival that I’ve attended in the states… what makes it so special is the constant vibe and the symbiotic relationship attendees have with this amazing venue. The music was top notch from beginning to end. Normally I’d review each artist that I heard but this festival was more than just artists putting on a show. Special mention for Yab-Yum though… was a dream to catch that live set. The visual aspect was phenomenal : the installation outside the psy-theatre was one of the coolest manmade objects at a party. Some peeps asked me about the deal with the sound. Well, if you came to this festival just for the sound then it would probably be worth complaining about. almost everyone who was there though seemed to be there for “Gaian Mind” as a whole which is something very different from just another psytrance party. this event seems to include the best of what the US has adds to the global psychedelic scene. am hooked and will be back for this every year that I can. thank you to all the Sunday morning trance dancers… been waiting to exprience that kind of floor for the longest time.
Since coming to Gaian Mind ’06, I was fortunate enough to visit a few festivals around the world. Gaian Mind, while nice, compared poorly with other events in terms of logistics. Most other psy festivals are “leave-no-trace”, but the interpretation of the term was different; there it meant: – Frequent and frequently emptied garbage receptacles (organized by the festival or venue), – Clean, looked after toilets with toilet paper and hand sanitizer, – Ample supply or filtered potable water (reduces waste of plastic bottles), and – On-site sorting of recyclables. Also the choice and quality of food was quite a bit better elsewhere, even in the so called third world countries. Gaian Mind is one of the more expensive festivals (in terms of the entry fee) around the world. It is understandable if you can’t compete with Europe for talent (another post on that), but at least the logistics should justify the higher fee that we have to bear here. Thanks. P.S. Also, the trees provide plenty of shade, but alone are inadequate in sheltering from rain.
