There are many reasons for this, such as Adblock, and various other technologies meant to route around the annoyances. The bipartisan threat of government regulation is another. But there are actually a lot more than these canards.
It’s funny to see this, as NY Times was one of my biggest clients at Adweek. The question on everyone’s lips back then – How is it going to pay for itself – is being asked anew.
