These have been available since last year in txt format. Now the public announcement group, TripOutNY, is separated out painstakingly into web pages, by year and (sometimes, for the early years) by season. In this new format, these emails are vastly more readable and searchable by google, as well as this site’s own search engine.
Emails are individually under Trance>History in the main menu.
Altogether, the lists comprise of 1.5 million lines of text, the equivalent of a dozen large novels.
The pages themselves are very dense, unadorned walls of text. Pages and pages.
At some point in, to be competitive with Mark Indole, I converted to newsletter format, which greatly increased the amount of text with many many repeats and often a duplicate post.
I do not currently plan to give this treatment to NYC604 or the DMT list, which would take a lot of editing out. All the drama is in there, though, in txt format, if you really want to do that to yourself.
Now that all the building blocks are in place, it will be relatively easy to now create a year-by-year (or, in the early years, season by season) history of parties in New York, with flyers, the chronological party emails, and relevant youtubes.
Once that structure has been created, it will be easy (and fun) to fill in blanks with little stories and anecdotes.
The ultimate goal is an interactive history of the golden era. And hopefully, to recreate the glorious past so vividly that it springs to life into the present time. The activism of the archivist.
What IS still most needed are flyers dating before 2000, when I started cataloging the parties in email format. I started the brainmachines email list in February 1999, but it wasn’t a proper all-inclusive promotion list, so it does not include information on Tsunami, Synthetic Sadhus, APTP, In-Trance It events. Much of it may be lost to time. Please help me fill in the gaps.
