Yahoo Groups
It’s been a long slow death. Facebook finally finished what Myspace started. Last December, Yahoo removed all archived content from its Yahoo Groups – all the old emails, photos, everything. Sadly, for a lot of people who may have been AFK, a lot of memories got destroyed.
This is history lost, forever. Some day, as historians plumb back into the turn of the century, the pickings will be slim.
I doubt 99% of communities cared enough to use a Python script to download everything before it was all nuked. Yeah, right!
But I did! Thank God I saved all the emails before they got nuked! I have them on the site here and used them for the History pages. I even have all the emails in humongous, unedited text files under the Trance menu. All the user-submitted photos are here. Was a months-long project, but our scene was big – thousands of people – and worth it!

Groups.io was started by the guy who originally started egroups, which Yahoo bought 20 years ago. It’s a lot more advanced and feature-laden. More information here.
