1977 – April 2, 2003 San Francisco Goa Trance DJ
Benjamin Llewelyn Hyder in passed away after a long battle with cancer. He had come to CA from England to meet his father, and stayed because he loved the rave scene there. He was one of those djs you waited all night to hear, and few went to more effort to spread the good tracks t o everyone on the scene. He touched more people’s lives than he knew, a nd will be missed by many. Ben was 26.
“Ben was the source of like half the music i sent you, mainly the harder goa. We had a big memorial at this rose garden today and one guy had made up this cd with pictures and a short movie he hand ed out. So we’re doing a party here where me and a friend have a bunch of ben’s mixes we’re gonna play all night, pretty cool send off i guess. He was psyched the times i told him you guys liked the cds i sent, i remember you playing some of his picks when i was out there, and he would have bee n ALL ABOUT your goa trash parties.”
so if you have some higher p ower you believe in, say a little prayer for my friend Ben.
after a 3+ year fight, he has lost to cancer. This is a great loss for all of us on the scene, he wa s an awesome DJ out here in Berkeley.
Funny, you guys in NY have actually gotten more out of his talents than you know (probably more than the people out here).
Over the l ast few years i have sent Jeff NUMEROUS cds of the good trance- well about half of them came form Ben’s hours and hours of picking through record shops, and further he pretty much got me into the music to begin with- Jeff, that israeli DAT MAFIA for on e, the
moonspirit for another came from him.
he was from bristol, england, and was i think 27, maybe 28.
its r eally sad and i apologize for bumming anyone out, but i wanted to give him credit for getting us all that music- he didnt get to play th atoften out here, and he was awesome- really hard stuff.
