Many people wonder why I am single at my age. Is he gay, or something, they might wonder. The truth is more mundane.
After a decade of sobriety and celibacy, a universal truth has emerged – drugs and relationships don’t mix. You have a finite amount of dopamine in your brain at any given moment, and if you spend that dopamine on drugs, you will have that much less for your significant other.
I look back on so many amazing women I left behind, all because I was letting my brain’s reward system get hijacked. To a true addict, the most perfect woman in the universe can’t compete with their “precious.” Nothing on this planet can compete with the memory of that first total ascension into cosmic bliss.
Let your partner be your drug. Let the little things in life – caring for an animal, five minutes of quiet time, or a walk among the trees – be your ecstasy.
