As a reader of the God Delusion and a lifelong waffler, I still couldn’t agree more with Dawkin’s concession. We need the message of Jesus and Judeo Christianity in all its highly evolved splendor, with parables, wisdom, and an epistemology sophisticated enough to co-exist with science.
As a young person I saw secular Europe as superior to a Sarah Palin America full of religious nuts. Experience and time has shown me otherwise; the final nail was ISIS atrocities and the immigrant crisis.
I would encourage all my atheist and Christian friends to bury the hatchet and celebrate our common cultural values, preserving the legacy of our forefathers.
Atheists, lose the smug neckbeard Reddit fedora obnoxious mentality and remember that Christians made the infrastructure from which the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Industrial Revolution sprang.
Christians, be more open minded to gays and evolution, remembering to not judge lest ye be judged, and that atheists are using the brains God gave us.
Basically everyone be humble like Jesus was. There is a lot of room for agreeing to disagree, and to stand united. We need each other.
