Catholicism, after centuries of providing a unique identity to Ireland against its English oppressors, seems to finally have hit a point where the downsides (the child sex abuse, the lies, the patriarchal attitudes) outweighed the good. Sad that this happened during the reign of a particularly liberal Pope. But the dam seems to have burst.

Catholicism resonated with the Celts because purgatory so resembled the faerie world. Although the road to secular humanism in Éire seems inevitable, here’s hoping the very best of Christianity is retained – Jesus’ message of love – as well as Druidism’s appreciation of the natural world. Tara could be their new Vatican.
Fun druid fact: the “wid” in “druid” is the same as “vid” in “video games.” From Proto Indo European dóru weyd: tree seeing.
Here’s hoping we some day decipher the people who built Stonehenge before the Celts invaded.
