Big Plug and mini-review for Playnite, game library organizer extraordinaire

Updated 2 years ago

I am a collector by nature. I like having easy access to all the best video games ever created in a seamless interface. It helped me greatly to overcome video game addiction by front-ending the selection I have. Once you have everything you want, it’s hard to dive too deep into any game – you constantly skim the surface extremely casually.
For years I used and admired Steam, but they recently arbitrarily enforced a banner size change, after I spent years making custom banners. Steam is just there, never forget, to sell games and its interface, while advanced 10 years ago, is showing its age, and its lack of disregard for dedicated modders.
Big plug for Playnite to organize all your games! Way more customizable than Steam ever was! I can add metadata from databases that autopopulates categories, links and reviews, etc, and I can add my favorite youtube reviews. Wikipedia etc, use the size banners *I* want, control the interface more completely, and connect with all libraries like Steam, Epic Games, etc – meaning you can launch your Steam games from Playnite. Also supports emulators. Tons more options to drill down into specifics, such as Sort Order.
I was able to fully migrate almost 1000 games, took me a few days but I have bat/cmd’s for most of them that also open keybinds and in-game maps.
Best of all, it’s open-source with an active and helpful Reddit.

The site forums and the Subreddit are very helpful, but here’s a few helpful tips.
-Put all custom banners and bat/cmd’s in separate folders.
-After a Steam import, you may have duplicate entries if you also have separate bat links.
