Can Progressives Be Convinced That Genetics Matters? | New Yorker

Updated 2 years ago

The amount of rage from the political extremists with their own agendas shouldn’t drown out science.

If genetic mutations can affect subtle things like malaria resistance or eye shape, it only follows that it will have subtle neurological effects as well.
It is, however, a provocative field of study, and one with a potential slippery slope to scary places – but that doesn’t mean it should be suppressed. Because passing it off to someone else to figure it out will prevent us from maintaining what lead we have left, and make it harder to combat its misuse, when the inevitable errant Chinese warlord makes a clone army.
And the great thing about science is that it doesn’t care if you have a problem whether you believe it or not.
Nature doesn’t have an agenda.
It just is.
