Craig Baker lived in the Philadelphia area. From what I gather, he didn’t really gel with the Philadelphia crew, because the scene was more casual and intimate, so he commuted a lot to NYC in the 2000s and 2010s. He shot a large amount of Youtube videos of psytrance events. For this alone he must be thanked for his solid contribution to history.
I would write more about his life, but I never knew him. He came in right when I was taking a break.
At some point he started complaining about some of the Ketamine users at the Sullivan Room when it got busted, calling them parasites and zombies. Eventually, he started doing heroin, and his trajectory was apparent when he started asking people for Ketamine. He started to worsen, and then both his parents died, leaving him money, and he spent all that money without telling his brother, who was also in the will. Sometime after late 2017, he was found dead, on his bed with a large mirror covered with lines of unsnorted heroin.
It doesn’t feel right that most of this obituary is about his fall. If you would like to write about any fond memories of Craig, please contact me.
“I worked with Craig as a bike courier for Legal Beagle around 2000, where he was a dispatcher. Went to a couple shows of his band. He was a great guy and I am deeply saddened to hear about his death and the circumstances relating to it. My deepest condolences. He was always smiling and very sharp when I knew him. His music was like nothing I ever heard. He always had a kind word to say and always stood up for his crew when a client complained about problems caused by their mistakes they tried to blame on us. He will be missed.”
