“A majority of Americans in a new poll have a positive association with the term “woke,” understanding it to mean “to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices…. The USA Today-Ipsos poll released on Wednesday found that 56 percent agreed with the more positive definition, while 39 percent had a negative association with the word and understood it to mean “to be overly politically correct and police others’ words.”
Well this is sort of surprising. Apparently, Ghostbusters 3 didn’t ruin most people’s childhood. Although I’m a little wary of woke excesses myself (purely on a very surface media level, admittedly, ie Rings of Power/JK Rowling), this is reassuring, and it’s frankly humbling to realize I am to the right of most of the country on this issue. Maybe my Youtube algorithm went astray. Maybe my generation of white tech bros is dying out and collectively unable to thumb the scales anymore. It happens. It’s OK.
Casting decisions and cancel culture are far, far down my (and, contrary to what you see on Fox, most Americans’) list of priorities in life. Yes, I think it’s naive, silly, short-sighted, and petty, but I’m honest and self-aware to understand that it’s more about me growing old than anything else.
That, and obnoxious little woke Gen Z’ers don’t kill people.
It’s the little things.
On top of all this, Democrats have shown heroic unity. Pelosi kept the Squad in line. Republicans have shown time and time again their biggest enemies are each other.
The truly important part is, Biden is very safe in 2024. Trump, should he get the nomination, is a 1000% guaranteed loss, and De Santis’ little crusade down in Florida is a clown show, scary, and ultimately Un-American, made possible only by all the retired and uneducated swamp people down there. He is popular only by a rarefied convergence of transitory circumstances, and he will be disemboweled the moment he faces Trump on a debating stage.
