Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard

Updated 2 years ago

The biggest news in video games in decades – possibly ever

Holy crap. Microsoft is buying Activision/Blizzard for 70 billion. ABK is the largest game developer on Earth (well Nintendo might have edged out after the recent scandals)
This is bad news for me because I was addicted to 2 of their games (Warcraft III and World of Warcraft) which became ruined in the 2010s by mismanagement and corporate myopia. After I finally quit, I quit gaming altogether, freeing up huge chunks of time to get my life back on track.
And Microsoft will definitely un-ruin these games. Microsoft is the gold standard for AAA gaming developers. What they did for Age of Empires, a real time strategy game similar to Warcraft III, was magical. You see the problem here, for me?
So the process for kicking out the cancer that has hailed ABK, CEO Bobby Kotick, will take 18 months. Luckily I have made headway in finding engrossing, fruitful projects that game-ify the real worlds. But I have a fire under my ass now.

Microsoft is now the largest “pure” video game developer in the world, setting aside Tencent and Sony.
