We need to quash forever the idea that psychedelics makes one enlightened and liberal.
There is a dark side of psychedelics that makes one prone to delusional thinking, conspiracy theories, and pseudoscience.
Here is the funny thing. I love making lists, and thought of publishing a list of weirdo wingnut psychedelic people.
If I just included freaky political extremist people I could count them all on one hand, and would probably grow to two or a bit more with a modicum of google search. Maybe grow to 30, as I start really going back and finding all the Mansons. But that would be it, in the realm of loud influencers.
The sad fact is that if I counted all the problemmatic people, the self apointed Jesuses (Jesi?), ass grabbers, ethically lax, charlatans, etc. it would count almost everybody, up to and including all the” gurus,” and “leaders,” all the way up to Rick Doblin. I expound on that more, here.
Add to this the reality that psychedelics are simply a temporary phase for people generally, albeit with long term nostalgia, group loyalty, and all the attendant fealties.
In my personal experience, within psychonauts the far right/left wing nut factor is around 1 in 10 or less. And they get a disproportionate amount of attention, simply because novelty seekers and the ADD difference-seeking factor.
I don’t know of any psychedelic hardcore regressive left, to be fair but then again I don’t even consider a Terence McKenna/Alan Moore anarchist as an extremist… I am center-libertarian-ish.
But in my experience the right wingnuts are lot more fervent (and knowledgeable) than the average Trump supporter or regressive leftist. Not to mention, more unhinged at least on occasion. These outliers are incredibly harmful to “the movement” because opponents can point to them and go, this is what these drugs do!
