To know Steve O was to love Steve O. He was a beloved son, a reliable brother and for so many of us, a treasured friend. But friend hardly begins to describe what he meant to those around him. Always ready with a smile, he brought joy to everyone he encountered. There was no safer port in a storm.
His life ended prematurely on November 14th, 2019 at only 54 years young. Steve-O’s life adventure brought him to a myriad of locales and he left his mark in each and every one: from Cape Cod, to Maui, to Huntington Beach, on the Playa, in Bushwick and, of course, in his beloved Rincón where he commanded the bar at Shipwreck in a manner that will never be duplicated. The Shipwreck ownership, staff and its loyal patrons were a family to him and that family will continue to thrive in his honor.
There will be many fitting and effusive tributes, but it will be impossible to capture the light he shined on the world around him. One thing we can know for certain is that Steve O would not want his family to be encumbered by his passing and that he would want his legacy to be honored through projects that were dear to him.
This campaign is being established to cover the actual costs of settling his estate which are estimated to be $15,000. The proceeds will go directly to his parents.
In addition, this campaign is raising funds to support three causes close to his heart.
SUDS – a non-profit charity dedicated to helping disabled veterans through scuba training for service members wounded, ill and injured with a permanent physical disability requiring adaptation. www.sudsdiving.org
Cape Cod Regional Technical High School – prepares students for success in our changing world by providing high quality, academic, technical and social skills
Hockey Puerto Rico – promoting hockey in Puerto Rico since 2004.
We hope to contribute at least $5000 to each of these causes in his memory.
Any surplus funds will be used to fund a permanent memorial in Steve O’s honor to be located in Rincón, PR.
Steve O is survived by his parents David & Carol, his siblings Jamie, Laurel & Carrie, and his girlfriend Nicole.
We hope you will join us in celebrating Steve O’s life by supporting this campaign.
As a close friend said, “His body just couldn’t carry his beautiful soul any longer.”
His legacy will remain forever in our hearts and his magical gifts will continue to touch those that knew him and, through your support, even those that never had the pleasure of knowing one of the greats.
Thank you.
