A friend from Nepal/has a variety of artifacts that I’m going to offer to NYC trance people first at a discount before they go to stores. If you’re uber cool then you would get it with one of the Moroccan Berber (sic?) anyone know where to buy a Berber cloak in NYC? Secondly, I’m doing a membership drive this week. Trance in New York, the crossroads of the world, thrives because of new people whether they are small-town Midwesterners here to make their mark or cultured travelers who carry home fond memories of the trance family here. Everyone, do me a favor and fwd out this message to your friends and invite them to join by sending a blank It’s free, it’s weekly, and it will exist as long as the circulation keeps rising… And the more on trip Out, the more eventually get funneled to Safetydance, and that’s where things start to get really interesting! Because then, if female they end up in my web rdrop/glacier/yurt yurt, and if male, I end up with their bank account 🙂 Thank you all The 15 minute Inflatable Guru and P.S. if you’re not on the safetydance list, do something about it. find me at the next party and ID yourself andI’ll grill you (and maybe serve you at Bereket)

It’s because John Adams, the nation’s second president, said so. He decreed that “this day of deliverance ” be honored with “bells and bonfires and illuminations.” Bells and bonfires galore will occur at Macy’s 30-minute pyrotechnics show, which sports an appropriately patriotic theme “The Lights of Freedom.” Starting at approximately 9PM, fireworks will launch from two locations: off 34th Street and below South Street Seaport on the East River. The FDR Drive between Houston and 63rd Street will be closed to traffic to accommodate the thousands of revelers lining up for the fireworks extravaganza. Arrive a few hours early to snag a spot (and take mass transit as parking near the event is next to impossible). If you live in Queens or Brooklyn, skip coming into the city, find an unobstructed view of the East River (Joralemon Street or the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights is a great locale) and enjoy the show without being jostled by the mob. And don’t miss the Fourth of July all-genre American trance party at Boom! –
Just got back but this time I have something to say which might not please everyone but its important for all to know how the scene in NY is getting pretty f**ked up
Reached the place at 11:30 for a change… early to celebrate independence all nite long…my friends and me paid $5 each to this Chinese gurl at the door takin care of the entry….Hardly 10-15 ppl there for the first hour wid some descent dark music playing, me and a friend of mine decided to bounce to grab a quick bite(Note no stamps or marks were been giving to those goin out to get back in)…got back there like at 2:30 and the scene seemed to have changed a bit wid 30-40 ppl….the gurl at the door had changed at this lady who was pretty much WASTED I must say was takin care of the entry…she stopped me and my friend and asked us to pay $10 each for entry tho she saw us getting in earlier and we also spoke inside for a sec….I refused to pay and opted to stand out and watch the show this gurl was creating and there it goes….she stopped these 2 other guys also who apparently had been outside for a bit smoking but am sure I had seen them in earlier…2ndly there was another dude who was short on money and was pleading the lady to let him in and I heard her say “pay me a couple of bucks and I will push you in”
Now my point here is not to cribb about money or me not getting inside again which I knew I would, if I had opted to Create a scene and talk around a bit there in front of all which I chose not to….what I ask here is not to f***en promote and support such ppl who organise psy parties for the namesake and just to earn some money out of the public…. It’s disgusting to see such petty things happening at a party and spoiling the whole vibe and meaning of what a psytrance party is all about…At straight I opted to leave that place wid my friends cuz I was pretty much harrowed wid what was goin on there
My post here is just a lil note of concern to the psy scene here in New York which has been fallin down and is gettin in the hands of some lame-ass stupid unorganised wasted ppl who just put up a show and are there to grab the $$ of the public….It definitely was a not a good night as expected but am glad that I saw what was goin on and have posted it to make you all aware of it!!!
Peace to all!
As organizer of these and many other events, who has seen the scene wax and wane and promoters come and go over 7 years, I respond. This is my first complaint about the door in the 7 months we’ve done things there. I’d hate for you to be stuck with a bad taste on the commercial end of our hard work (we do free outdoor events in NYC that are slamming)
a) organizers come and go in NYC. Not counting the controversial Tsunami, I have thrown more parties than anyone in NYC starting around ’96, I have survived by reducing expenses and charging to get in the door. the relief doorperson has a great heart and I’d be happy to refund any cash to anyone charged twice. (more on that later)
a) parties cost money. DJs, artists, and equipment and lighting people all need to be paid a pittance for their hard work so that Trance Consumers (an ugly word, only in America) can come and consume. I prefer the people who get involved in the spirit of the particular trip we may be on in a given week – and do creative things!! And get in free. You receive more than what you get. My ideal event is an event where everyone gets in free because everyone contributes something. It’s only the outsiders and Trance Consumers who pay to get in.
b) we did another all-Russian the following weekend with ~20 different passwords. So many ways to get in free. the official outdoors afterparty organized by the same people was free, in Manhattan, and went all day. Also, it was slammin’ I might add. I would divulge more, but this is a public forum. If you’d like to get on the “Safetydance” list for free outdoor events, shoot me an email describing who you are and we can meet up somewhere.
the door person was relieving the Chinese girl. I tell all door people to stick to the posted passwords etc. or guess what. we lose money and do not organize events. which leaves the Trance Consumer with no $5 events to go to.
if anyone ever gets stung at the door for $5 then I will be happy to return your money, if that’s what it’s all about.
PS I have a weekly newsletter with every single commercial trance event in NYC called TripOut NY. You can get this free newsletter by sending a blank email to tripOutNY-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
PSS If you’d ever like to get off your ass and do a party yourself I’ll be happy to send it out to the 1,065 people who get the newsletter!

just spoke with adam everything is definitely on rain or shine. adam and ian have always been good about just doing them, not canceling, and certainly not canceling without notification. I’ll see you there! Saturday (24 hours): A few thunderstorms possible. Highs in the mid-90s and lows in the upper 60s.
This was the third of three parties out at the Pine Barrens and it was just as good as the two previous ones. Many, many thanks to Adam, Joey, Eddle, Chris and Ian. Without them, these free parties would never have happened. One thing I want to mention is that on the way to the beach today the VW had car problems and we had to stop at several automotive stores. The air filter was temporarily being filled by two diapers and it had started choking. Needless to say, we lost our caravan to Seaside Park because of this. Apologies to Mike, Raffi, Emily, and the rest of the crew that was behind us. Hopefully, you all made it to the beach without us and had a great day! We finally found the right air filter for the VW, changed the diapers and hit the beach ourselves.>:-)

Bridge – Elphatrance Afterparty- Free Atmaa (India)
This is our first attempt since right after 9/11. That was a NIGHT party and they let us just go. This time, 18 months later, it will be in the morning, so we are not violating any curfew. We honestly don’t know how this will shape up. As always, be discrete, don’t fwd out to rave lists, bring water, and don’t walk down in groups larger than 5-6. Our equipment carried in not from 181st & Amsterdam but several blocks down. We’ll definitely need help. Feel free to meet us there around 5-6am to help set up.Info Line – 646-752-5456 – the phone itself will be off but will have a recorded message If you’re concerned about the party being busted or moved just call the number.

Elphatrance at boom was the most commercially successful event we’ve done, everyone forgot one of the 30 odd passwords we had ahaha! the afterparty was a great day – Got things going by 9amTapestries, stretch fabric, mural painting pictures posted soon. Collected cash for a gas can, gas, water, beer, juice.great crowd, people coming and going all day. People brought their kids. The Pine Barrens people Ian and friend and Joee and her daughter came at the last!! Done by 7pm. Took all the trash back up the hill (an improvement over previous years where we just got a big pile of trash bags going)Really smooth day all day except fpr the late start and the lack of cheap you-know-what.
Special Thanks to Wylie (speakers and equipment), Mark Ogg Mod (transportation), Ben (jerry-rigging), Vitalik (generator), Akin, Yacc, Leo and others who carried the equipment up and down the hill and 5 flights at Wylie’s, Ronek and Michel who went to get supplies, the DJs, people who made donations, and all who came and helped. We’ll do this again in a month or so. day only. some house/techno raver guys came by and had flyers for a party they were doing there in a week or so. I gave them the lowdown on not making flyers, not doing shit at night, I guess they’ll learn their lesson. But I am only going to promote these events on Safetydance and DMTNY. As for the DMT, we lose a bit by not having equipment so that we can vote on DJs but OTOH democracy moves very slowly and we are not a huge nation. It’s an acceptable compromise for now because why buy when you can borrow and get more people involved with a stake in an event’s success.. But make no mistake, when I get my shit together the DMT will have a full system again. Also, we left the gas can in the bushes. If anyone lives by there it’s worth $20. We DID find another gas can, on our way back, on Houston, but it’s only a single gallon container..
peacefulwatcher to all at the gathering….. thank you for making my trip to new york even more interesting… the part under the bridge was a super experience for me… as aDJ and as a dancer…i met many beautiful people and energies… an extremely enriching experience. to be spinning, for such a positive group of people even though only for an hour, I feel honoured… thank you all. love and

We brought you together at the Brooklyn Public House with Neuromotor & friends for his first NYC appearance. We went till 8am as promised.
everyone get their asses down there, Neuromotor’s gonna rock your world. Yeah, that’s right. and Pooja and Nico from Greece who originally banged out that space with the Karan party a couple of months back! Interview with Talaa Frederick below.
hi guys, I usually don’t write reviews but this guy blew my mind off perfect mixing skills, perfect music selection and the vibe was great. I wanna thank Alladin for the wonderful party and hope to have another party soon. I’m just sorry that I missed nobu set, but in general, was one of the best parties this year keep up the good work guys peace and love
I traveled from Houston to attend this party because I really dig Hux Flux, and I’ve never been to NYC, yet I’ve been entertaining the thought of making a trip to NYC to visit my friend MachinElf for a couple of years. I finally took the plunge, and as far as I am concerned, I picked a GREAT party to attend for my first FULL-ON trance event. I’ve been labeled a “trance nerd” by my friend because I’m REALLY into Goa/psytrance music (I’ve an extensive/eclectic collection), but have little experience with actual trance events. I was active in the Texas rave scene for a while before a good friend turned me on to Goa/psytrance.
Though Hux Flux was great, I thought the volume was kinda low during their set. I like their new album “Division by Zero”, and I’ve been a HUGE fan since Cryptic Crunch. Though the two albums are decidedly different, I dig Dennis’s Scandinavian crunchy/crisp/squelchy/pretty sounds in whatever form they take. Hux Flux – I love you, but I’m really writing this post because Neuromotor’s live set caught me completely off guard. I have had little to no exposure to Neuromotor, but this intimate first contact had a profound effect on me in many ways.
At first I was grooving to the organic “wet” sounds that he produced, but these sounds took a strange and unexpected turn toward what I experienced as aggressive male misogynistic energy. Neuromotor’s live set made my loins wet and had me wishing that my girlfriend had made the trip with me to NYC. He introduced a bizarre aggressive SEXUAL politic to the dance floor that I have never experienced under any circumstances. Although I was digging the sound he put out, it made me feel dirty inside.
But, it was dirty in a good way … yet dirty in a bad way. I felt as if someone had violated my genitals – I felt a visceral urge in my groin but knew in my head that this was not where I wanted my energy to go. Neuromotor played with me like a puppet on strings. I felt as if I was violated sexually – as if someone had molested, me, but I secretly enjoyed the uninvited groping and wanted more.
During this seizure of my sexual-neuro-motor control – the sample that I heard { I don’t know what the actual sample was, but what I heard on the dance floor was this ” dance, or die, between my (your) legs”).
Though the explicit architecture of this sample can surely be debated, – this was what I heard on the dance floor ” dance, OR DIE, between my(your) legs”. What? … “Dance, OR DIE, between my(your) legs” — Neuromotor used organic, tangibly sensual noises and neuro-linguistic programming to reroute my bio-brain stimulation “between my (your) legs”.
Admittedly, I was digging this at first (with guilt), but as it progressed and I found myself noticing the female forms around me, I became distracted and the dirty feelings really took hold. I was part of a psychosexual trance orgy on the dance floor. I really felt violated (but still horny) – as if I hade been run through the “Orgazmatron” many times over, yet never spent my seed.
Neuromotor reached out and stroked me uninvitedly.- repeatedly – I ultimately had to leave the dance floor because I felt herded into this sexually aggressive male mode. Yet something inside of me enjoyed this sexual intrusion, though my overall “vibe” at the party was completely thrown OFF.
>What’s with listing four different acts names to make it look like there will be four international acts on the line-up when in reality they’re only bringing over one guy (Fred Talaa), who records under four different names? Synthetic Sadhus used to go a similar thing all the time (listing the same artist under multiple names so it looks like the line-up is more impressive than it is), and I still think it’s a sketchy policy.
(For those that don’t know, Fred Talaa records under the name of Neuromotor, Plastyk Elephant, and E.S.X.S., and is also 1/2 of Crazy Lions Cult together with Gill of Hyper Frequencies.)-Selim
C’est Vrai mon ami! Very true, but Selim, you are missing here one thing, the party organizers can make so much more money this way! this trend started here by these H.O.T (now Global Trance) is a sure way to inflate with H.O.T air any venue. eg:
1. 2 months ago, duvdev played – on the flyer, a big BPEmpire background, and Inf. Mush. written as big as duvdev’s name… people aren’t smart here as they are in Europe to the scene, so they say: Hey infected Mushroom! let’s pay $25!!!!! woooo! and they get a Yoni Dj set (typical full-on clone type music selection, good mixing skills) and a Duvdev DJ set… cost of the event – 2 pioneer cDJ 100 and sound system… no need for live equip, and no need to bother Erez so its much cheaper for them.
2. the more recent GMS-1200mics-Zorba-Bansi party- $30 = Yoni Dj Set, Bansi DJ set…. equip needed? = 2 cDJ1000 (Banzi is a big shot)
3. the most recent Logic Bomb, Alternate Vision, Oforia, Pigs in Space, Tandu event =30$ =Yoni Dj set, Junya (who was better than all of them, and I heard was in town anyway) Oforia DJ set , logic bomb never even showed. equip. needed? well you get the drift…..
This party shouldn’t be any different… maybe Yoni just really wants to play and is setting up these parties… maybe the fools get fooled….. maybe……. not me.
This city is hollow, empty of a soul, its a shame, Fred would be sad if he knew.
Brain still in pieces… what an event! really good gathering of good people, about 300 or so, very good vibes, very nice setup. Neuromotor played for a very long time, starting with ESXS stuff and moving into his own, mixing it up with Xenomorph and Paranormal Attack. sound could have been a bit better, but all and all it was an unforgettable event. Nice to meet the Isratrancers here: Demi, arrya… hope these events can keep happening like this. This was much needed
grand respect 2 Fred and all the New Yorkers! It’s hard even 2 type cause I worked my whole body until the after-party finished(around 6-7&*^%$$^), which was also amazing. Under the Bridge> Nice dimensions! I saw ppl rocking this party. A very good sets on the afterparty of Soverin, Mike. Thanks to all the freaking out.
I’m so happy to met this crowed ……what a killer energie ,all of u people amazed me the sound was not that good but the guys of global trance had some problems with the owner of that venue, but at the end, we did it all together …..so just one thing thanks a lot again for those that take the risk to come and play with us, I really found in love I want to come again for an outdoor I promise u more madness …..believe me.
global trance are doing a really great job, u can trust me I saw them from the inside and they really give u all their energie to do their best for your nights ……
actually I have to tell u that I’ve been so surprised by the new-york crowd, well just arrived in the place and everybody is dancing and smiling. Then until the end, nobody is missing …..we had a really great time it was a super mega killer party, thanks a lot to global trance crew who bring me there. You did a real nice job. I won’t forget it. love and light freddy
See, I told you guys that Fred was the BOMB Factory It doesn’t matter how many different names you call the guy, he can take a whole party to heights unimaginable Glad to hear it went off for the East Coast Family! Fred is the man, I wish I could have been there to see him do his thing

I’m running out of ethnic identities to do parties at Boom. Israel is the last grail. If a nyone out there is from some fertile area for trance and knows of enough D Js from that area that live around here to make a party, let me know! How about Gay Trance! haha. Too bad no Scando DJs here! OK… I am looking for female DJs for an all-female event coming up in a couple of weeks. (T his weekend is bad) if anyone knows of any females who DJ send me their Info. I’m really looking for bedroom DJs, ones who’ve been practicing their skillz but haven’t been out. I’m also thinking womyn in free could be resurrected. If I can find four DJs we’ll do a party On a different unrelated note, are there any South Africans in the house? Please email me privately.

Trance Neuro Sexpress at Boom!
Forget Montreal.. coming from the real Euro capital of North America: t’apportez pour votre plaisir…From the sandy beaches of Ibiza to the dank clubs of Berlin, from the festivals in Barcelona to the parades through Amsterdam, from the fields of England to the rocky shores of Greece, we gather with one Goal – to dance in the transcendental light of spiritual ecstasy and (for some) existential decadence featuring the very best beats that NYC has to offer this weekend. “Two strains of trance are currently in vogue. One, commonly referred to as Eurotrance (Eurodiscus hypnoticus satinus), is essentially a heterosexual version of HINRG that has found enthusiastic champions in English Victrologists like Paul Oakenfold. The male of the species seems fond of shiny shirts in man-made fabrics, while the female often sports satiny bras and body-conscious stretch skirts and dresses. Goa, or psychedelic, trance (Eurodiscus hypnoticus hippie), on the other hand, is Eurotrance’s grungier parent. Born of the hippie beach parties of India and Thailand, this style emphasizes pseudo- Eastern psychedelic motifs and the heavy acid sound of the Roland 303 bass synthesizer. Goa trancers are believed to be descended from the Deadhead and trustafarian orders, both of which have, through evolution, developed the ability to survive for months without a shower or haircut. Additionally, much of the population is of Israeli origin, although science has yet to come up with an explanation for this.”

The Disko Futura party was a blast. Thanks El Nadiv for a wonderful event!! The rain prevented me from rallying to the outdoor on Saturday, but I heard it was good.
I had a great time, and I hope all others did as well. We regret the tech. difficulty we had in the beginning, but we resolved it by 12. (The electrical wiring in the venue was as older than Jesus.) We went on till 8am as promised, as others can’t and close at 5AM:( To all those who attended, I would like to say thank you! Our next event will contain even more EnErgy, featuring an artist long sought after here in NYC… Hope to see you at the COSMA party, as I would never DREAM of going to a party that ends at 5am… BOOM SHANKAR!

This Saturday during the day come witness the return of the web Yahoo Groups/group/DMTNYDevotional Ministry of Trance. Taking advice from an unlikely source – Don Rumsfeld – we return not as the army but as marines. Why buy when you can borrow? That night is a true clusterfuck, two parties, that I won’t get into. I honor Cosma’s untimely death – and would also love to see Club Arc do psytrance finally…. oh, the moral choices… Would that we be numerous enough to avoid bankrupting the smaller draw’s event . So everyone get out. Let’s pretend for once that we’re in London and trance is a multi headed beast.

All the heads on this list will be happy to know that the psy-Goa-progressive scene was very well represented at this multi-stage/style event in Wooster, Ohio. Thanks to all the psy, Goa & progressive DJ’s/crews who came from all over to the Goahead tent: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus (I hope I didn’t miss anyone’s origins). Because of them, any unsuspecting raver with a binky on a string at that event could hear these sounds that we all love and enjoy, and even take for granted here in the city. Be it daytime, peak-time, or morning. Every time a psy, Goa or progressive DJ would get behind the decks, a crowd would gather around and get really excited. Who knows, maybe the house nation is starting to get a crack in its foundation because one could easily tell the kids are just dying for a new sound (all other stages played house, d’n’b, house, cheesy trance, house, and more house, oh experimental stage was great tho too). Two obstacles hindered the event from being all it was meant to be: rain and the subsequent flooding and mud; and of course, the man. After 2 am, the bass was supposed to be off entirely until 8 am. Good thing toward the morning most of the stages said fuck it and kicked it back up. This event has the potential of becoming a staple in the north-east/mid-west scene. It reminded me a lot of what Toronto crews do with WEMF, my hope is that Field Day will continue to grow and attract bigger crowds. That rests in part on the shoulders of the promoters who this year went in with the complete understanding that they will be picking up the tab. And they did. That is a community service worth praise. Props to Goahead Productions for representing all the way. They are planning quite a bit for the future of Goa, psy & progressive in those parts. If anyone has any ideas on how to participate, be it with DJ’s, art, tour bookings, var. connects, taking trips to events, or whatever, let’s hear it. I think there is a certain responsibility that we have before the rest of the region, being in NYC and having a thriving scene as we do. I don’t wanna come off too utopian, but we are a movement only when we get together and make things happen, collaboratively and sometimes over distances (in this case only 7.5 hrs drive). To sum up though, the event was a kick-ass time and an indication of good things to come for trance in that neck of the woods.

Psytrance Indian Independence Day
During the day: free – legal – outdoors – Manhattan All day Saturday, August 16th 8am-8pm. DJs from India, Boston, San Diego, plus d-voted DJs from New York. Actually “Indian Independence Day” is on Friday, but we want to celebrate outdoors in the joyous day. Rain or shine As of Tuesday there’s a small chance of a thunderstorm. I hope it happens, then we’ll all be under the covered bridge as opposed to lolling about on the grass. But it probably won’t rain. Blast!! Attractions & Contributions bicoastal psytrance guru s, Indian dancing, chillum workshop, potluck Indian food, art, henna, wild people, poojas, performance art, juice, chai, blankets, yoga, incense, fire dancing, face painting, didgeridoo, drums, etc. No one is untouchable.. We’re also shooting for bar-b-q; if anyone has a grill please bring – email me – and we’ll announce BYO BBQ. We are resurrecting the “free” area wherein we leave offerings to our ancestors and our sister s and brothers. Bring water, food, special brownies, money, trinkets etc. Leave your spectator and consumer hats at home. Indoors. Security & legality This is a DAYTIME EVENT. That means we pack up when it gets dark. It’s 100% legal. Feel free to forward this out to your friends – but not email lists. As always, be discrete, don’t fwd out to rave lists, bring water, and don’t walk down in groups larger than 5-6. Can you help us? -We’ll definitely need help with equipment. Feel free to meet us there any time between sunrise and 8am to help set up. -We are cleaning the park in the morning. There was a techno party at this spot several weeks ago and I’m fairly certain it’s still a mess. Let’s be responsible citizens. -Donations to pay for gas, both for the generator and the DJ’s from Boston. Used since 1998 by Acid Physicks, Paradox, Subtlechaos, Alphatrance, d, House of Trance, Omnitribe, and Safetydance. The ance formed in 2000 and has staged several dozen events. The DMT was formed with a core belief/observation – that trance dance can lead to spiritual enlightenment and transcendence. Wounded by an equipment seizure by the NYPD on July 13, 2001, it struggled along until a week after 9/11, when at night the feds warned us not to break curfew again. This event is a logical outgrowth, an escape to a higher level of complexity. This is the second psytrance Indian-themed event, one of the larger events of its kind.

Tsunami does not have the best reputation re: ethics & vibe. Tsunami has apparently double booked this event without any explanation. Now an argument COULD be made that Tsunami could only get Club Arc on Saturday nights. (All of Tsunami’s cards lie in club owners ‘owing’ them x amount of nights) Too bad, because most people I know will go to Talamasca.. The final “juice” lies in who announced their event first, and in this case it was not Tsunami. I’ll go to both, just to hear Tim Schuldt. I’d love to see Tsunami get Vinyl/Arc back just like I nt he old days, but absolutely not at the expense of the In Memoriam party
one of the best parties NYC has ever seen… great energy, great crowd, great DJ’s, great location, great great great….. my ears are ringing… its too loud for me to even type… hopefully post more later… Talamasca was brutal, Xerox was smooth as ice… local Knob and Liran played good sets as well. I’m glad this event took place, very positive power there, a melange of people in the crowd… happy to see everyone there, karnaf, chakalaka, droozi, cedric, arrya, good to see you all there. psychoclown, you were missed.
I loved it!!! Talamasca’s track selection was good but I felt that the speakers didn’t sound so good when he was spinnin. Well, they fixed what they had by the time Xerox came cause he did sound better. Of course, I may be biased after all I have only been waiting about 5 years to see xerox play. I’m sorry I missed knob set I am really starting to dig the music he plays. Thank you for throwing this party I loved the location and the music – maybe next time you don’t have to get that many speakers though?

Alien Project never showed – Alien P. is booked for tonight in Achziv Israel and tomorrow for Nitzanim in Israel as well… anyone know if he is coming in by Spaceship? cause otherwise he might miss his gig.
John Emmanuel has no office, as he ripped off one person too many. Yoni kicked him out of the office space with a court order. He has a voicemail, but that will probably go dead soon…
His last financial backer gave up after throwing more than 40 money-losing parties (hmm maybe it’s the dates he chooses? He always insisted on throwing the parties on the same date as everyone else, because he wanted them to go broke.)
Very few were ever profitable, and of the 6 parties we promoted for him 1 Failed.
It failed because no one wanted to pay $27 to be in a small room with a weak sound system, ala CULTURE CLUB (a cheesy 80’s CLUB. the place has a neon PAC MAN on the awning…)
When the people who paid saw how bad the sound was, and that there were no decorations, they called their friends and told them not to come.
I should know. the volume was so low I could hear other people’s conversations.
This is because John didn’t want to pay $1000 more for sound reinforcement.
The few who did get stuck with nowhere else to go were pissed.
CB told john he should give a partial refund or a discount.
John said “fuck them, they will never remember”
CB insisted and began to collect names for a reduced list for the next party.
When John actually gave those refunds at the Transcendental Love party, he became pissed again. He said “What the fuck? I had to give a discount to 80 people because of you, and no one remembers how good we are. They just remember the bad things.”
I guess maybe its because very few things went as planned. (at that party Parasense didn’t show. We later found out that John knew all along, But didn’t want to lower the ticket price.)
CB reminded john that at 2am that the best costume at the party should get $100.
John said “Fuck them, what about me?”
Oh and that party that Gilles referred to when the artist would not play was The Antidote, and it was this same party. He said the sound system was garbage and refused to plug in his Toshiba laptop.
We worked for him despite all the people who told us he was dishonest and a sellout.
We believed we could re-finish his image as long as we delivered the goods when the time came.
Well we upped his website visits 100x but he couldn’t keep his word because he almost never has signed contracts.
Even when he does, they are useless as he is no longer a company functioning with a valid tax i.d. (he can’t pay the taxes).
So even when it was not his fault, (Estate closing), he has no recourse but to wait for the place to hopefully re-open (which it will, and he’ll make another party from 11-till???).
Psyfire, it’s ok to believe in something. Just recognize that I am not lying, this is not fiction. This is all true.
We were partners until we found out some other dirty secrets that are too juicy to leave to the public.
We no longer work with fakenami.
Why don’t you ask someone about the Neuromotor party we threw at the Williamsburg Public House. It was packed and they begged us to do a monthly.
They even called us again because people asked about it. We were open 11pm to 8am.
No early closings, as we had contracts, and we are a legitimate company with a tax i.d. that could take recourse on behalf of the patrons.
Basically, John is a fraud, and w/o advice from someone in the scene, he has no idea who to book or where to do it.
If you want to handle his internet campaign you are going to need more than opinion to make people believe you.
Every time someone posts to tell people about one of his great parties, we will release more and more of the inner workings of this faker.
And we have many.
Did everyone survive the blackout?

Brought to you by TAPPT’s “ProJect Q’eros”
Malcom: the organizers and the commies who were nice enough to let us use that great location. I got there at about 11 with a nice beer buzz going. I liked the venue…not to big or small and very beautiful girls dancing around to trance 🙂 I liked the variety of trance being played…the more downtempo psytrance played early in the party was a nice build-up to the full-on harder trance later on… I had a “few” more beers and the music carried me away… I hope someone recorded last night’s mix…oh yeah there was a really cool presentation on the Q’eros tribe of Peru at the end of the party… – I just want to say thank you guys and girls for a really chill party it’s a shame more people didn’t know about it… I could totally see bringing in some jazz cats to that venue to have a listen to some psytrance.

Dave Henshaw: OK, so all you nay-sayers and doubting Thomases want to whine and complain about how the “scene” in New York is broken up and dwindling. “Competition is killing us,” cries the peanut gallery! “It costs too much money to hear these International acts,” declare the vagrants from the Financial District! “What happened to the “good old days?” When entire dancefloors of 500 people who would be violently shaking to the sounds of Ticon, Noma, Hux Flux, and Logic Bomb?,” ask the latest fallouts from the forward thinker category? Synthetic Sadhus has stopped, Tsunami parties cannot be trusted anymore, and the days of Spectra Parties at the Key Roller arena are gone. And all these people want to jump ship and throw in the towel. Pedro Martinez comes out and gets shelled and all of a sudden there’s not a Red Sox fan anywhere from Southie to Charlestown. Likewise, a few bunk attempts at trance parties unfold and all of a sudden there’s not a single trancer in the whole Tri-State area. Well, guess what? I’ve got something to say to all those who’ve seemingly vanished from the face of New York/Boston psytrance nation: “It feels and sounds so much better from in front of the speakers!” I need to thank the ever-wise Jacob for that comment, but nothing could be closer to the truth of the situation. Ask yourself, what is it about trance parties that I love the most?” And if the answer is “the music and the people,” then I can only hope your portable discman is generating about 6500 watts and your apartment can hold around 100 of your closest friends! All I can say is, “there’s still an amazing musical and psychedelically-oriented “scene” here in the Northeast US, but there seem to be only around 100 or so people who wish to take part in it!” This past weekend was yet another example of a musically exceptional yet poorly attended New York City trance party. Spectra Productions, leaders in the propagation of the progressive psychedelic sound, brought Oliver Beirlich back for another New York appearance and, once again, the Copenhagen native didn’t let anyone down. After outstanding and eclectic opening sets from NYC favorites Vitali a & S.H.I.K.I.D, and Lori the Hi-Fi Princess (playing relatively hard and stomping tech-trance), Oliver took to the helm and busted out with track after track of upbeat Danish and Swedish progressive psy. Tracks he had produced under his two projects, Reefer Decree and Oryx, started the night and dotted the first hour or so. Once the crowd was moving; he opened it up with some more driving and aggressive Israeli third-wave from the likes Asterix and others. The lucky 100 or so who attended were treated to yet another great set’s worth of dancing and another audible massage from one of Denmark’s finest. But perhaps the highlight of the night came when the closing Dj took the decks; Spectra’s own Gavin. Fresh off over a month of international travel and gigging; Gavin seemed to bring all the dancefloors he played for in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Brazil back to the United States and treated the crowd to tracks which even the most dedicated and anal-retentive progressive psy collectors have never heard. It was a set’s worth of tracks the likes have never been heard here in the Eastern US. Gavin has had some amazing sets this year – including those at Omni-Fest, Gaian Mind, and all the international travels. But (of those I’ve had the pleasure of hearing) this one ranks as the best. And with the end of the night came yet another sigh, yet another walk out into the sunrise-soak ed New York City streets, yet another cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee, yet another batch of fresh peaches and bananas, and yet another cracked-out car- ride with Marria back up to Beantown… More prevalent, however, than any of those habitual phenomena was a distinct feeling that I was treated to something that only a select few had the privilege of hearing and experiencing. To live in the past and wish for the “good old days” is a false nostalgic earn. To say the “scene” in New York “sucks” because there are very few parties that can draw 500 or 600 people is ignorant and judgmental. To stop coming to parties because “nobody ever goes” is self-defeating. For, if everyone said that, then nobody would come anyway. Like the wise-man says, “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” So maybe this review is going to turn into one giant, “GET UP NEW YORK AND BOSTON!! Get off your couches and out of your offices! Get away from Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park. Get off your Bunton Lawn Mowers and out from behind your Apple G4’s! Once or twice a month, somebody is giving you the chance to hear the sounds that will provide the soundtrack of our generation played live and in stereo over a massive sound-system. And if you can’t come up with a couple of hours of pay to enjoy eight hours of amazing music, then maybe you do belong cooped up in your cubicle all day or sitting in Starbucks reading the latest gossip on the back page of the Post!….The next Spectra party will feature Emok, the head of Denmark’s Iboga Records, and will take place on September 13th, 2003 …. 🙂 …… Oliver and Gavin will also be performing this Wednesday, August 27th, at Anitya in Boston…. 🙂 *This conversation is OVER! 🙂 🙂

Party Monster Premiere Party with Susan Bartsch
Susan Bartsch is an old school promoter that throws the most extravagant parties in New York, since back in the old Limelight days & beyond. It s fitting that she is hosting a party for a new movie about NYC s killer promoter Michael Alig called Party Monster, starring McAuley Caulkin, Seth Green & Chloe Sevigny, tonight with us at Plaid. So, don t stay Home Alone! Due to a private party, doors will open at 1am.
You asked for it! You got it! Come get infected at the Wicked Screensaver party this Friday. The SoBig virus, which is the sixth and latest strain of a virus that first emerged in January, spreads through Windows PCs via e-mail and corporate networks. Besides clogging e-mail system s with messages carrying subject lines like “Re: Details” and “Re: Wicked screensaver,” the virus also deposits a Trojan horse, or hacker back door, that can be used to turn victims’ PCs into relayers of spam e-mail… this Friday we’ll come through your back door and turn your brains into relayers of the trance virus.

Guys, it was my > first trance party in NY, and that was really > cool….I am now looking forward to outdoor parties…if > there still are…one little thing: I found that> people at ARC were less communicative than what I used
to in Europe…is this a NY thing or it was just this > party? >
it was just this party.. the NY economy sucks and everyone is too broke to pay $$$ to go out. lucky me, I get in free. wow. woo. hoo. so are you new in New York? I was the blonde dude with the very floro trousers that wandered in at 5:30 and actually copped some PCP out in the “terrace” how fun!! not recommended btw.not enough UV..but the art by Daya was a beaut! Elvis, the card reader at the door (formerly manager of Amazura) is – I believe – Tsunami’s secret weapon. In Warcraft 3, he’d be a Hero >:-O yo man 98% of the people there were not from the typical NY trance familia. a lotta jappy Israeli clubsters that I never saw before. quite honestly, some people have beef against Tsunami, but I hope that Tsunami succeeds at Vinyl/Vile-O again (around ’98 – ’99 or so they carried the period with biweekly parties there) the whole scene is in disarray as it does every so often. expect more chaos..the virus party rocked too Friday thanks especially to serge for saving the night with a missing cord- but he lost some T-shirts did anyone find them? signed, the ny trance old timerps s sss s sssoh yeah, here’s the new mr. brain machine MAN LIVES TO TELL OF DRILL THROUGH HEAD TRUCKEE, California (Sept. 3) – Ron Hunt’s friends and family have been calling him the “Miracle Man” ever since an 18-inch-long drill bit poked through his eye and out the back of his skull.

Spectra busted by NYPD, Gavin, Leah, and several others were arrested for cabaret violation and disorderly conduct. The owner got arrested for more serious charges. For those of you who are interested in finding out more about the cabaret laws in NYC, and want to get involved in changing them, there is an organization who is actively fighting….you can contact them via their website: www.legalizedancingNYC/web legalizedancingNYC/ from kamal – “I just got there at 3:15 about on Sunday morning, I saw Changmian outside the venue chatted, for a minute, seemed alright they said it was packed upstairs and smoky. I then proceeded to take the elevator upstairs and was greeted by the same girl with that weird 80’s Pat Benatar hair cut who works at the door, paid my reduced list 20$ admission. Oh when We were taking up the elevator Changmian and I saw a cop car pulling up and he was joking and said it was over, ha haws very funny cuz if he really knew they were coming I wish I wouldn’t have wasted the 20$. It’s all good I got 15 minutes for my 20$ but I also heard they took all the money they made or whatever was in that box. Poor Gavin I did not Hear Leah got Arrested. The place was small and they were serving alcohol or beers I think. There was also a Monkey present at the party. When the Cops arrived they would not let anyone leave the party. Eventually, they escorted us out and we waited outside the party was moved to show and Emok got to finish his set, was alright but knowing what happened didn’t help make it feel better. Shows sound system kicked ass. That was it.”
Malcolm – I had a great time at the Spectra party, despite the NYPD party crashing. I got there about 11, relaxed had a couple of beers. After I was properly refreshed (intoxicated), the party started. Music was banging…girls were banging :-)!The party really got going around 2, lots of good vibes. I heard there was a monkey at the party. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to buy it a couple of gin an’ tonics (It has been a lifelong dream of mine to get a monkey drunk)…Then the real downer came! The NYPD walked in around 3:30…some of those girl cops are nice, even though the police shirts are like a burka for the chest on those girls…I feel so bad about Gavin and his friends getting arrested for breach of peace… I don’t really know what to say, I didn’t see them get arrested… But no-one deserves a night in the tombs for responsibly throwing a party. Afterward, I ended up going to club show…which was chill, getting in for free, and listening to psytrance thereafter the house DJ had been booted off the decks…I think it was the first time many people there had listened to psytrance……It was fun….but I much prefer outdoor parties…there is a much more spiritual vibe in outdoor parties, and you get to have more real conversations with people, which isn’t always possible in a crowded club with your ears bleeding next to the 100000-watt amplified speaker.

Dalia Lama and l??? And I swear to you, in the first five minutes of his speech he said, it is a beautiful day, a beautiful day to take acid then he laughed. I will have to check it out when I get the audiotape next week but I SWEAR to you that’s what he said, and it was not just what I wanted him to say. (-:
[That was said by Terence McKenna at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine – ed.]
hmmmm.. so far it’s 2 vs 1 witnesses who swear on “acid”) I’ll try to get the audiotape and post it online this week and let you be the judge.

This party is not to be missed. Club Roxy is the biggest and most friendly Dance club in NYC known as well for the best sound system. The club will be Decorated with some of the best decorations ever seen. For the music part, a guaranty for you to here the best music out there now. the Evening will be built in a way that will lead you from the beginning till the ending the best way. Be advised to show up early, you don’t want to miss any of the lineups. We hope to see you all there! Peace and harmony to all of us. -Y bada booom .. !!
what a party – finally, after a while, it was good to see everyone ( well, almost – missing Gadi, shammy etc ) under one roof, losing their minds completely .. Junya played an incredible set – as Eskimo, I think – as I got there .. the security was uptight, as usual – so getting in took ages … but we were well rewarded by his set .. father john was right behind him and took over after that for a great darkish hour – a few familiar songs – then onto wizzy ..
great set – very different beats, not the usual five o clock Astrix gms routine we’ve come to expect in NYC .. finally, about an hour and a half ( id lost all concept of time and everything else by now ) later, Junya came on to deliver an insane, full-on set that had people running around the floor, jumping up and down like complete madmen .. – a total psychedelic circus …great party, some wonderful decor, especially under the lights in the morning .. too bad we missed the after party .. sound system was not bad either ..
on to Shiva Chandra and son kite .. so I traveled from Miami with two friends to this party 175 $ for plane plus entrance and it was worth every penny definitely the best party I’ve been to in USA a lot and I mean a lot of beautiful people beautiful atmosphere the set by Dick Trevor was so great I missed his set in Israel couple of months ago thus by closing the party by cops right after he started playing this guy rocks
then Eskimo played the DJ det by this time the dance floor was full by Israelis Russians Americans all together jumping and digging and stomping like one united tribe (beautiful sight) Junya played great i missed most of his father set (i was outside meeting all kinds of people) then wizzy noise came up they played very nice set although not exactly my kind of music after then we went to organize the after all in all the party was great huge respect to the organizers and of course to all the Israelis that came to celebrate Rosh Hashana shana tova le kulam nice to feel like home well, I also tripped myself from Fl 2 party and seemed to have enjoyed the party, except the only small detail – I didn’t get any NIGHT music! I mean, I am not against old-school Goa trance, but not 4 the whole night through. it was like if you come up and ask what r u playing and whatever there was a DJ, you might get a reply – “don’t you hear?! its GOA TRANCE!” I mean I didn’t get any new technics of night time kicking like I know there are! if it was open I would not grumble a word about that!
everybody mixed good, though at the beginning it was an unneeded morning sound…
the crowd was nice. it was a pitty so little ppl showed up 4 an afterparty!
thanx a lot 2 everybody – org, ppl, artists(all the PHANTASMS and Wizzy!)
GRAND RESPECT AND BHOLENATH!
There was an unannounced party out near coney island after elli’s Spirtual Liberty, which was a lot of fun and killer Phazon sound (Roxy, not the beach!)

If you have any questions, you should e-mail the Camp Commandante Al Azar (Rndm) a/k/a Tim at rndmtim Latest news from the Camp Commandante as of 16:31 hours Thursday EST: There will be two portapotties, placed in the same place as last time -on the road about 200 yards down the hill from where everyone will beset up. I’m thinking about buying a generator (for a few reasons), but my current ETA up there is the afternoon, and I probably won’t have time until Saturday, and I think there was a run on generators since the blackout so I might not be able to do this in any case. If there is interest I might move a gas grill up to the firepit or the camping field… assuming it still works.
Weekend Review
Brian: I booked a flight into NYC when I first heard about wizzy noise
playing live about a month and a half ago (before I knew about the son kite/shiva chandra party.. I would have much rather have flown for that instead of driving down the following weekend).. I WAS ambivalent about the Phantasm party because the line up beyond Micky Wizzy and the other guy?? (runner up Dick Trevor) was total crap.
I knew all of this going into the Roxy, and even when the bad music came on I realized I hadn’t prepared myself enough for the excruciating pain and torture of Junya’s sets. Junya (Phantasm’s jerk son) is a DJ joke, except I forgot to laugh. The flyer says that he’s a TIP World DJ, but has TIP world lowered their standards to the point where untalented DJs can be on their team? or did Jerk Sr, simply push the $ buttons? The Eskihomo (junya) was supposed to play live too, which I am pretty sure he didn’t… I honestly don’t think he’s even smart enough to play live.. He has been a DJ since he was 13, yet he still can’t beat match.. track selection poor.. no flow /
seamlessness, cds skipping.. I couldn’t escape it, the horrible sounds undid all great music that wizzy noise had created. Undid and then took some way. Okay, okay enough negativity right?!? One more thing… Security was robbing people in the bathroom.. at at
Wizzy Noise… wow their live set was a breath of fresh air (compared to everything else).. Yet the system sounded muddy / not crystal clear. Wizzy Noise rocked out for 2 hours and I was happy to finally be hearing some great live trance. They played a lot of tracks I had never heard before (new album maybe!!?).. a couple of times I heard the dark, heavy driving rhythms break into a couple of melodic licks that got my dancing (something I hardly did at this party). Appropriately people were going nutso dancing around to some of the newer progressive sounds.. (it didn’t sound full full-on to me).. I was almost in heaven, but something just wasn’t right… Besides my boys being absent.. they had all the crazy club lights on and shinning in my eyes the entire night was, I questioned myself:: was I at a trance party, a rave, or a Spectra party?? okay that was a cheap joke at Spectra’s expense, I admit it 😛
((skip to %%))
[Now you’re probably wondering why I simply just didn’t leave right after Wizzy Noise left the stage (as soon as Junya reared his ugly carrot top head neared the stage I started to get antsy).. you’re still wondering no? I tried to leave.. going to the coat check I had a sudden b brain lapse and couldn’t remember where my ticket was.. I thought it was in my wallet, but somehow it had escaped me and I had lost it! (whaaaaat? I don’t lose anything what gives?!?).. being Lightly sLighted myself, I was a little embarrassed for losing the ticket. No big deal right? the attendant put my initials on the ticket, and there was only one and half racks left w/ about 20 items left so it had to be there. I told him exactly what it looked like, how big it was, my initials, ect.. he looked, I looked, we both didn’t see it. he really looked too, going through each one and didn’t see it. I thought it funny that I had lost the ticket AND the Roxy had
lost the bag……. so I went back into the club and tried to get to convince the friend I came with to leave, but to no avail (i just go that fuck off I’m dancing look.. crap!) so I went back to the coat check one more time and had him look again.. We were both convinced that it was simply missing… a short time later (an hour+ it was over) I found the ticket in a strange pocket, went to coat check and
it had magically appeared to both the surprise of the assistant and myself…]

thankfully, the music for the weekend was just beginning. Sat. night was BEAUTIFUL.. I heard the best music of the weekend at tonic at 8pm.. John Zorn’s Electric Masada band played a 1.45 hour set.. from start to finish I had a smile on my face. I danced to the upbeat rock/jazz / electronic / percussion tango beats.. I don’t know how else to describe what I heard, Zorn’s music is like that, it was very powerful. During one of their slower songs, the percussionist was playing all kinds of weird gadgetry, while a woman playing a power book created several liquid modulations.. John Zorn, plays saxophone and rather crazy I would say.. playing lots of notes, all over three registers and at odd unexpected rhythms almost like he was saying the weirdest things possible in the small amounts of breaks given. Eyes closed I wasn’t inside a small bar, south of Houston, but I was floating somewhere a foot above a lake with a heavy mist lifting off the water, orange sun rays shining through the mist and refracting off tiny crystals hovering in the air and on the waves.. now I was in heaven and I didn’t take anything.. the music was awesome, exactly what I needed to hear.. real good organic music.. I left tonic feeling a renewed loved for life, and everything I saw seemed brighter
I am still so happy with my experience at tonic!! Thankfully the music for the weekend was not over, and I headed over to BOOM for dinner and maybe some dancing. Going to boom really hurt my pride; I had paid $35 for the Phantasm party and nothing for Boom (got there really early) and Boom was great. I sometimes find that the free trance parties have the best vibe, people, and music… in my mind if I pay $35 for a party I should hear good music, have fun, and be happy (but often I leave disappointed). Any other genre of music.. when you pay $$ you get good music / a good party this is SOMETIMES true for trance (i guess the days of good big $35 parties is over; RIP SYNTHETIC SADHUS). The DJs at Boom mixing was seamless/smooth and were playing lots of unreleased tracks I like.. sub6, rinkadink, and after eating a semi-large dinner I danced hard.. it felt good to really dance dance.. thanks BOOM for making food not war and helping to save my weekend!!
I’m really glad I got a little dancing in before I return for son kite/shiva chandra.. I really cant wait for oct. 4th, only a few days before my 24th birthday.. and it will be great to see all my friends together (Boston + NYC ) dancing to what I believe is two amazing live acts.. so excited!! especially after how great the April 2003 son kite NYC show was (magical fireqerks) and the venue is perfect.. this party is going to rip the roof off ) hehe I can’t wait… anyone else excited?!? ah.. to bee in new york city
From Junya: THIS IS JUNYA / ESKIMO. I will be using this account to say some things!!!!! Dear Mr. Brian….. I am not a rude or nasty person but how fucking dare you say these things you lifeless piece of shit. If you did not enjoy the party then that is your problem and maybe I don’t play the music that you wish to hear…But to mail to everyone these personal insults about me was just pathetic…..You seem to me like a very sad, lonely, frustrated person who needs to go home to his mother so she can change your dipper….I hate having to say shit like this but man, MY MUSIC IS NOT MY PERSONALITY! As for my live….My computer froze up just before I stepped on to the stage. So, you don’t think that I am smart enough to do live? LOOK AT YOU. You did not like my first set so you stayed to see my second! You are a few sandwiches short of a picnic if you ask me…My advise is you go home, listen to your dusty old records which I am sure to say they are better that the music today. And don’t go to parties that you will bitch and moan about, because you seem like a little kid who spits his dummy out! Warm regards The UGLY CARROT TOP (You sack of SHIT)
From: “AriCalmari” I would take issue with dogging the Phantasms like that. I think they both played the right sets for the type of venue/vibe it was. All the hours playing without a monitor. Not exactly a fun time I imagine. That sound system was bouncing sound off everything. But skilled or not, it was good dancefloor material from them I thought, and if the line up was reversed, it felt like the place could have almost emptied out by 3 am (accenting the melody vs the beat). Not to say that Wizzy Noise was disappointing, far from it, they were great, even groundbreaking for me! But holding a large crowd together on a club dancefloor for so long requires some give n’take, and loads of energy. And that is what those two were about, energy. I thought they balanced it pretty well (hated the Voodoo People part tho, who’s he kiddin?), but was not bored for a minute and danced my ass off the whole night. But I can see how the full-on purists could have frowned on their sound, and the party in general for that matter. There wasn’t much of that sound at all, the night was more about hard trance than any psyched out mayhem, I thought. So my 1st time at Roxy was not a disappointment. I’m sorry you had a bad time.

A lot of reviews this last week on the NYC604 group. Here’s a recap. Friday RunDMT was great, we even served Soul Food (pork ribs, collard greens etc) I was in a tux from a slamming Saturday afternoon trance wedding, where Michael and Sherry Goldenberg got hitched. The wedding at Club Show was organized by Lisa Spudic and DJ’d by Iggy. They had all their friends and relatives from the whole place on their feet. I was in my tux so getting to the wilds of south jersey was undoable. So I went to Spectra, found some old Love in my pocket, indulged, wow. A new benchmark for progressive events, great vibe and music, a lot of Boston peeps were there, too bad it got shut d own at 530am due to noise I think, many went to the Lunatarium building for a great afterparty. A Message from Alex Grey
Hi Friends, The old Twilo is now: SPIRIT NEW YORK! Massive renovation underway! Opening late Nov-December… Very cool people. Oliver Vernon is an amazing artist who is doing some work with them. The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors is currently negotiating a plan to open a 5-year exhibition of the Sacred Mirrors and 20 other piece s on the 4th floor of the Spirit New York building. The trick will be whether we can raise the funds to open. The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors must renovate the raw industrial loft. We will need to pay for staff, insurance, utilities, and equipment to keep the Chapel open and functioning year-round. Estimates for renovation alone are around $90,000. If you or your friends have the means, we are seeking any level of support in matching a $25,000 challenge grant offered by a friend of the Chapel named John Gilmore. Your contribution, even of a small amount, will automatically be doubled due to John’s generosity. The Chelsea Chapel space will be designed to act as a tool for transformation, a spiritual catalyst for visitors. It will also serve as a walk-in brochure for the larger task of raising the 5 million dollars needed to realize our long term Goal: building third-millennium sacred architecture to house the Sacred Mirrors collection. We plan to announce the building site for the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors next year. World-renowned architect, Keith Critchlow, a leading expert in sacred geometry, has embarked on the design work. Over the next five years while located in Chelsea we’ll begin our capital fund-raising efforts in earnest. Please help us create a place to consider ourselves and each other as reflections of the divine. Allyson and I would love to hang out with you next year in the Chelsea Chapel! Together we can build a new vision! Love to all you folks, Alex Grey

This party didn’t work. The place smelled. No smoking. People just sat there and listened to Gavin spin. The fog machine made the air kind of noxious. It was hellish.

Come, and get the word out… We need the Spectral cute girl contingent at Tsunami again… Don’t lose hope. Club Arc has the best sound system in the world. Yes. I’ll see y’all Saturday, John gave me use of his list that has added 40-50 people here – and I am bringing UV. I haven’t seen Marcus since he and Koxbox came over to Wylie’s yuppie squat with a bottle of vodka and a shady Asian coke dealer a few new years ago… I bet they got fat off all that wiener schnitzel like DJ Bim 😀 !!! Let’s find out… (Re: the header, Harvey Weinstein is head of Miramax; because he sucks Disney’s cock, he eschew films that depict reality and just rally for sure-fire Oscars…. fuck that fat weasely fuck, I am sure he has toked up at the very least!!) …back to your previously scheduled programming
Hi there!!!! S.U.N Project show was AMAZING as always!!!!!! I just think that for DJs like them the party should had been in another place…. ARC is not the right place to make parties!!!!! SUN Project Review
By nan@hipchix.net and Jehan
WOW! That S.U.N Project party last nite at Arc was pretty damn skippy (as Paul would say). Huge kudos to Tsunami for one of the best big parties I’ve been to in a long time. And it was definitely needed.
For myself, last nite was the culmination of one long week from hell. I worked a nine-day stretch because I worked an extra day, as requested. Retail, remember? >;-) Plus, on top of the nine days the last 3 were about opening a new store up on 59th St. By Bloomingdales.
A lot of manual labor, breathing noxious paint fumes, and the general contractor’s cigarette smoke. And you all know how I feel about those! >:-P
And on top of that, last nite was the third party in a row, on top of a nine-day work week, that I attended. The build-up from Thursday night at Karma then to Tagine then to Arc was quite a ride. I had to make sure to pace myself and reserve energy not only for work but for last nite knowing it was the 3rd of the 3.
Only when I was cosmic surfing last nite did I realize that this party was pretty damn special and it was no mistake the rough road getting to it. And I ain’t talkin potholes in the city streets.
I got there around 1:30 with Jehan, his female companion (sorry memory shorts from lack of sleep keeps me from remembering her name, among at least 5-6 lately. Ouch. My apologies.) and Mr. Michel.
Not much of a line outside which was good. Bouncers a little gruff but that’s to be expected. Ha! And when asked for my I.D. a second time I questioned the dude inside as to why he needed it again and he said to make sure they were real. I had been watching him collect others and put them into a computer. That was the one thing that didn’t sit well with me and when I asked him why and he told me he waived my I.D. and Jehan’s girlfriend’s as well.
The reduced list worked! Wow! I was actually on it…hahahha. And, for lower than what I was expecting to pay which was $25. Mike got me in for $20 so that was a score. Thanks, Mike!
The space was nicely lit, cool, not smokey save for the smoke machines and crowded just enough.
Even as the night wore on it never got to the point where it was total madness. Everyone was chill and respectful of each other. Decent crowd of people. Not the usual psytrance heads or anyone faction say Israeli outnumbering anyone else. Though there were a few rather in-my-face guys that I had to jockey around. Not bad tho, not bad.
I ran into a couple of friends who told me they weren’t into the vibe of the party and thought they would leave. I told them to come back as it would probably pick up later. Most psytrance parties have to warm up, at least to some degree before the main act gets on. This was no exception. In fact, it was probably more noticeable than usual given how the party turned out vs the energy in the invisible landscape vs the visible landscape vs NYC vs the World, etc. Even I was skeptical at one point but didn’t linger
on it. I just bounced on the sidelines until it felt right to do otherwise. Which I eventually did.
I wanted a drink so when back to the bar and found them only to be serving juices, water and like that.
I got an orange juice and moved back to the dancefloor. Oh yeah, before that I noticed an Asian dude about to light up a smoke and you all know how I feel about those, right? Anyway, I bit my tongue because I wanted to go up and let him know that there was no smoking in the club. But, I didn’t have to because one of the security dudes was on him in a minute and you should have seen the look on this Asian dude’s face when security showed up! So…I got what I wanted and didn’t have to do a thing. Hehehheh. Nice
when things work out like that, right? >;-)
I was so impressed with the lack of alcohol and cigarettes. It’s really amazing (or is it?) how much alcohol fucks things up. It befuddles the mind. And not having any alcohol being served last nite was a stroke of genius in my opinion. When there’s a party of that caliber going on the last thing they want is to have the people braindead on alcohol. It’s incredible how dangerous that shit is. Especially when you’re not
paying attention. Guess they wanted everyone’s attention last nite and they got it.
Whoever played (MOD?) before S.U.N Project did a good job of energy shifting. I could feel it. I could see it and I think everyone else could, too. The lighting effects were hot and it’s interesting to note, more so than usual, that when it gets dark the mood changes vs when it’s lighter.
And the lighting effects were some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time. There were shifts going on last nite. I like to call it shifts in consciousness because I think that was what was happening. It was a really powerful experience.
I could swear at one point that the floor of the club was shifting under my feet and a thought came into my mind that this party was about shifting consciousness. I think that happened last nite. I think that’s why quite a few people were not too sure about the vibe and were waiting for whatever to happen. Meaning some people explained they were waiting to be impressed and I remember mentioning to them don’t expect anything and you won’t have a problem. Just go with the flow and let it take you there. It doesn’t just happen at once. It’s a gradual thing and if you trust it, it will come.
And come it did and in a blaze of guitars and drums and synthesizers. Yummy! Now, I’ve never been a big fan of what I call guitar trance but this was an exception. I remember reading one of Jeff’s emails about his party at Tagine and he described how much he was looking forward to hearing S.U.N Project because of the hard guitar energy in it. And I gotta say, I was impressed. I think a lot of us or some of us or two of us, maybe three? >;-) really liked heavy metal at one point. Good heavy metal, right? Not that cheesy stuff.
Anyway, before I came up through drum and bass to psytrance I had my metal moment and it was goooood.
Still have Case Logic loads of CDs that hold a collection of metal by Cold Chamber, KMFDM, Orange 9mm, Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy, Sevendust, to name a few.
So here comes S.U.N Project who, by the way, is listed at least once in my file of fave psytrance songs. I checked that out to make sure they were on it somewhere. Only fair, right? Heheh. So they were there and that was good. And they were spectacular last nite. I think NYC needed a good dose of rock and roll and we got it. I’ve never heard such a good combination of metal and psytrance combined. These guys were the ones
who really pulled it off. Guess it helps with the respective backgrounds of Matthius, McCoy and Marco. Their roots in grunge, heavy metal and recombined with the electronics of psytrance made for a wicked good time!
I think the edge that metal brings to psytrance, at least in the way SP does is refreshing. Especially for a genre that gets a little predictable from time to time. They have a signature that stands out and makes a great impression in psytrance. At first, I was a little apprehensive about how many guitars would be involved but after last nite, all apprehension was gone.
It was great seeing the crowd respond to S.U.N Project and SP returning the energy. You can tell when the crowd is in sync with the acts and last nite was no different. If anything, it was exceptional given the current state of affairs in the world. I think that last nite was a great boost of energy to the whole body. Spiritually as well as physically. The whole place was vibrating so it makes sense that the floor seemed to shift. (Oh, speaking of moving…go to the Sonic Vision experience up at the Planetarium. Tho the room vibrates I could have sworn at one point it was actually spinning.
Found out afterward that it didn’t spin which means that the experience is so incredible that if you let yourself be completely immersed in it you will feel weightless on top of feeling like the room is spinning. Wheeee!)
So, this was the second time within a month that I could swear things were moving. Big things. And I can only attribute this to a combination of thoughts and realizations that last nite was, indeed, a shift in consciousness. Literally, at least, in my mind. And what a cool feeling. It got down deep into the body and into the soul and it felt gooood. Really good.
The one thing that I don’t remember seeing were their masks. LOL
Anyway, thanks to Tsunami and everyone else involved in putting this party together. Special thanks to Mr. Yac who doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. Heheh. >;-) Nice job, man! And keep Valerie awake.
And before I forget, thanks to Yoni for playing an awesome set after SP that took the crowd the rest of the way til they turned on the lights at 9 or so in the morning. Really nice stuff, man.
And of course, thanks to S.U.N Project for a kick-ass good time! Rock on, boys!
😉

Another Perspective
from jehan7777@hotmail.com
I often judge a party by what happens to me after the party… am I
in a slump and tired, drained, and off to bed? or does the good energy from the party spin me off into more adventure, meeting more people, and meeting other sides of myself. So considering I just got home, I would say the music, people and general flow of the party definitely propelled me pretty damn far.
As Nancy mentioned security was not too bad, U kind of have to expect security to be a bit heavy when big clubs like Arc have to deal with constant police pressure… as long as we can have the party, I don’t really give a damn about security, once I get in the door, they don’t exist. I couldn’t help but notice, however, the electronic card-swipe-machine-elf that kept track of everyone in the club. None of us can run for president now, especially Nancy.
Got there around 1:30 am and was pleasantly surprised that the party was in full-swing already… sometimes it takes till 3 or even 4. But no, it was full-on. and Nice decoration Tsunami!
Very good, the space felt warmer, nice and psychedelic, and of course Arc has pretty good lighting.
The sound stage setup below the Dj booth set the silent tone for the first part of the party… it whispered through the booming trance, it kept saying…. “we know what’s coming…” The undercurrent of the SUN project live to come pushed the party along very nicely. Mantis and Darkrad, Minds of the Demented were playing when we got there, after some time, of getting my bearings on the people and space (and dodging the occasional raver swinging lights and tangling himself up in string…
It was quite a mixed crowd, trancers, ravers, explorers, and even a few of the “what the hell is going on here?” people – who all ended up with a “this is great” look on their face). So, tuning into Minds of the Demented, I would say there were doing a pretty good job, in fact, I think it was perfect for that time of the party, and considering who was going to play after them. Nice clean full-on with a dark but positive twist… forward driving sounds, with nice push. And they were having fun with the dancefloor too. Nice one guys, small-town Pennsylvania seems to have the trance too huh?
At some point I wandered into the chill-out room, and actually was slightly disappointed, it seemed a bit neglected (no decor whatsoever) too bright (club regulations perhaps?) basically it felt like I walked into a waiting room in a weird dreamlike airport where everyone would look for the shadows to sit in and catch the next flight to the dancefloor.
No big deal though, the party was more about the main space…. maybe its good not to have too much of a chill-out room, so that the party stays in one piece.
So back on the flight-path, and we are now cruising high with the SUN Dj set… I loved how casual Marco seemed to be while crashing the dancefloor with some good stomach shifting bass tracks, crispy psychedelic mids, and nice riffs. It seemed like there were all up there, making drinks behind a small bar, walking around, chatting… but basically mixing super trance with the back of their hand. Storing energy for the live set.
That’s when the real release came. At one point I was dancing right up near their sound stage during the middle of the Live set and looked up… the whole stage, all the equipment on stands, everything was shaking, the guitar was riffing, the drummer full-on, all of them kind of glancing at each other and then at the dancefloor, heads pulsing in synch. They had this intoxicated-yes look on their face, like a ‘yea..’ they were having
a good time and could see that we were too.
In terms of their sound, I thought that it was great, a good logical progression of SUN project as we know it…. the psychedelia had all the new edges to it, and their guitar style stayed basically the same, in sticking with their well-established style. I for one am not a huge guitar-in-trance fan, but am all for it when I see and hear it live. I know there are many people out there who complain about the SUN project type sound, and I
might too at times, but it is what it is, and that’s their style, and they do it great. It would be boring if all trance was super psychedelic, or super progressive. Trance is like a language and we should use all the words and tell all the stories.
I have this one image in my head of this guy who looked like he just got off his shift in China town and ended up at the party. He was standing in the middle of the dancefloor, his jaw almost touching the ground. He was zapped! amazed, and whenever the guitar riffs started his head would shake in disbelief. He definitely also had his share of ‘fortune cookies’.
So SUN project kept rocking on, and amidst the mixed crowd the majority of the trance contingent traversed worlds in the middle and towards the sides, where the sound reverberating through your body is best.
Welcome back Yoni! It was great to hear his new selection of music, but more importantly, like someone said to me on the dancefloor ‘he is such a good mixer’ and he loves the crowd (if he’s in a good mood) and having new music often puts one in a good mood, so the party kept rocking on. I spent a good 15 minutes up in the Dj booth while he was playing, observing from the other perspective and could feel the rushes that he was as the dancefloor would occasionally reach ‘that’ level. Soon I was dancing as full-on up there as I was on the dancefloor, and quickly went running back, and read my 3rd fortune cookie.
It said “U shall not go home for 2 more days”
So the party had a great push and super energy all the way till the end, with the lights on, people still dancing, and everyone with some form of smile on their face. (Have you people noticed one thing about Arc parties, that by the end the male-female balance is always off) What’s going on? are the women getting what they want and leaving, are the men not being men enough? Come on
people, sort it out.
Anyway, not to take away from the party though, it was great, refreshing, and I’m sure everyone is happy, Tsunami, SUN Project, Yoni, Minds of the Demented, and all of us on the dancefloor to return the energy and keep the flux going.
Good job to everyone involved…
keep it going.

From: Jehan USS Trance Party…. review, I guess Castle in the Sky humbled by Dancer Species. NYC has a giant ‘mote’ around it. definition: ‘mote’: a body of water constructed to surround a fort for defensive purposes. Often a pleasant habitat for ghoulish monster type species. “Today we have sailed the mote, and come forth unharmed!” Screamed the proud crowd. The beasts watched from afar, snarling their useless teeth. The evening started with a ship horn. Well, there was quite a lead up to this point, but this was the instant the night began. The audio volume on our little outdoor launchpad was being kept low because we were still at the dock. 12 o’clock. So – oh ya, ship horn, its coming – the captain got behind his huge steering wheel aka. dharma chakra. Boat still on land, volume low.Captain sounds the horn, which was extremely loud, the only thing you could hear, was that horn, just for sec or two When the sound of the horn echoed away, the music volume had been tactfully pushed up to maybe triple of what it was. Probably a fast steady push on the master volume by a finger. So even behind a bigger steering wheel, two wheels rather, spinning, Vitalik. Who had been patiently mixing under very bad volume conditions, had obviously worked himself up to a fine instant. Now let’s back-track a bit. The line outside the boat was a scene on its own… most of the boat was rented out to electroclash, 70’s 80’s but confused now music party, and our group, so the dock sticking out of the water looked like a flea market of wave-watchers and feet stompers. We’ll be the wave-watchers. So as jeff leaped over the edge of the ship, half falling off and half putting up hangings in his silver knight type out-fit, which looked more like a klu-klux dude on A. And all many of us standing on the dock telling the bouncer (or shall we call him the floater) that our names are on a list. “Jeff! Where’s the list?!” He’s still falling off the boat.”Pam has it!” “where’s Pam?” jeff – “She went to get some food” Classic. Anyway, we all made it on to the boat, along with electroclashies dressed as fat naked ladies, and joker-pirates infused with Tequila… we all attacked the open bar. Anyway, the whole first level and enclosed dancefloor on the upper level, though it was the majority of the ship was just the lobby for the USS Trance party on the open-air part of the deck. >From the moment that ship-horn went off I would say 70% of all the people where out there with us, in the smallest section of the boat, basically the open-top in front of the captain’s steering mad. hydraulics. But a real-world of its own, sailing along now, Audio condition: as best as they could be (considering that the boat’s managers didn’t let us bring the Sub-Woofer aboard)Weather conditions: Cool but good, with a lot of crazy shit going on in the skies. People condition: Lovin it. Vitalik was playing really nice music. And Manhattan was looking nice and ominous, dark towers of babble sleeping by the water, have dreams of ghoulish monster species. The statue of liberty is green. of course, its green. It never occurred to me, however, that green also happens to be the ‘color of money’. Which brings us to the problem of money freedom, in this land of the free. Coast guards lurked amidst the waters, protecting the green statue of liberty from greed, also symbolized by the color green. hmmm. money, greed, and twisted ideas of freedom, the three monster species of the Mote splished and splashed in the small waves, occasionally getting cigarette butts thrown at them from the floating mote dancers. “we are not anchored people are we” Suzy whispers in my ear. Gavin took seat behind the double dharma wheels, pupils wide.playing some groovy progressive impressive. More grounded bass maneuvering tracks, a good balance to Vitalik’s slightly more psychedelic forward-moving progressive. Gavin was smiling a lot.So on it went soundwaves tumbling across the water, splashing up against Brooklyn on one side and Manhattan the other. If the water-ripple-readers were there they’d be able to tell that there was a good party on the water somewhere.Michelle was a neon glowing skeleton, except there were no blacklights, so he was more like a skeleton’s ghost. So he just went around giving people little electric shocks, like ghosts do.Gavin kept steering as we head back north. The extra hour that we hoped for because of the daylight savings bank account, didn’t really happen. The boat was back a little before expected and like always, they were telling us to turn the music off. and like always the party would push back (just a little) the Djs, neGoatiating and mixing the next track in at the same time. But we could tell that boat part of the evening was soon over, and well worth it it was. One of the electroclashers, and asian kid dressed like the Dalai Llama, a bouncer, and Jeff were in some kind of discussion that turned into a word fight, and then even holding the enraged monk down. Jeff would be like, “you can’t act like that you’re dressed as a Buddhist monk.” and the Dalai Llama would yell back, “just watch me break your face man! come here! what the fuck! etc etc… then the argument moved to the inner dancefloor where Jeff’s retaliation was bow down on his knees, facing the Dalai Llama in prayer, this made the kid feel pretty stupid and he didn’t know what to do with his rage, and of course just as the Monk starts to simmer down, Jeff jumps up from prayer, screaming, fuck you man!, I’m bigger than you, what you gonna do?!” And they went at it like two cats again. Me, eyes blazing, in the middle trying to help prevent the Dalai Llama and the tripping Klu-Kluxer from tearing each other apart. Meanwhile, word has spread on the deck that there was an afterparty at Swim. The moment the boat stopped at the peer. All of us looking down at the dock from the upper level, the boat door opens and this guy goes running out and starts throwing up. We were all screaming and laughing (yes laughing, forget being nice, this shit was funny) and yelling directions to him like we were his blind-aid, telling him when to watch out for posts and pillars as he stumbled down the peer throwing up wicked monster species. We all congregated back on land, like we always do… organizing and finding our way to Swim, while others made there way to some other party, which ended up not existing so they came to Swim later too. Swim was super, by 4:30 it was pretty much full, and after Mayur played a couple of tracks to lead up to Gavin to finish his set and take it further. Nice feel to the party, positive, family feel, people dancing, smoking anything freely. The bartender had her share of Moroccan that’s for sure. Jason (subtlechaos), who was on the boat the whole night, also wide-eyed, appeared behind the tables. Still surfing. He took the progressive riff handed over to him by Gavin, spun it down a little into a more trippy but mellow progressive sound with a more instrumental feel to it, and then pushed it back up to cruise speed nice one. So we kept feeding the bartender with smoke and extra tips till she couldn’t go any longer, and the party was great and over by 7am.The End.you wish…. so then, as usual, we had our half-hour street party, haywire conversations, and literal interpretations, and people figured out where their mind wanted to take their body. I’m sure everyone’s day of sailing, and then being unleashed back on land ended with many smiles on many faces… mine still isn’t over (whats new Jehan?) By 8am (its noon now) I, and Anna, Michelle, Derek (the German-PuertoRican with the crazy hats), Nancy, and others…landed up at what I would call a green-house apartment in the sky, especially the state I’m in. Two whole walls of the apartment are windows and we’re pretty high up. Paul & Carlie’s appt. and I’m doing the best mixing one can do without a mixer, its called imagine-the-mix. Never-the-less, the music is still going, and I seem to have typed, well-typed, and typed and typed. Sorry this is so long, but it’s been a long splendid night. ‘n’ took many pictures throughout, keep an eye out for the link for those pics within the next 36 hours. bom. WOW!…the ecliptic party in Brooklyn was wicked! …I loved Dark Soho’s set… I loved the venue…it was nice having the beer garden in the back for us nicotine addicts, and the psychedelic artwork was sick… It’s nice to see good visuals at a club for once. Also there were some sweet Halloween costumes…lots of girlies dressed as nurses (I was dressed as an escaped hospital patient 😉 ). I want to thank surrender (Isratrance forum moderator) for serving the fruit (apricots rule!) and the tea and coffee. I want to thank everyone who made this party possible. I hope that that club is used in the future for more psytrance parties. -Malcolm “666”

See, outside of the Thursday night Kama Sutra Karaoke party, I was talking to the winner, a beautiful Kentucky blonde. Conflicts of interest aside, we started getting verbally friendly, then someone handed me a wet diesel-smelling James Brown cigarette and we share. Next thing I know, I’m at a dodgy after hours, the same space that Gavin threw that night. No Kentucky blonde insight. And she left Monday. Marria had a dream a few nights before the last Spectra party. A dream from which she awoke with a huge smile on her face – and a look in her eye that screamed, “are you ready for an amazing party?” When she started mumbling out the details, I was surprised and concerned. Had she started the party a little early, so to speak? Or was she just making more out of symbols and signs than I cared to know?In her dream, she was at the Vibrasphe re/Dimitri party and Gavin was speaking with her. The conversation was light, revolving primarily around the jibber-jabber about the Red Sox, psytrance, and European travel. What made the sequence interesting, though, was the fact that Gavin was cutting his own hair as he spoke. Literally, he was holding a normal conversation with his mouth and body, but his hands were busy frantically cutting his own hair. And, in the words of Marria, “do ing a pretty damn good job at it.” Being the bookworm I am, I immediately went to my primary symbolism resources and delved in to find the meaning of this symbol. What I found was one of the many portents that drew me back down to another Spectra party – another four-hour car trip – another rental van – another try at a good clean trip. According to most sources, “cutting one’s own hair represents a level of diminishing freedom, emaciated liberation, or a state of mind which portends such a state. To cut one’s hair shows a level of conformity with purpose, a lessening of rebellion in exchange for the realization of one’s Goals.” Why would Gav in, one of the most forward-thinking and free individuals we know, be doing ANYTHING that would LESSEN his freedom and ability to thrive in hostile environments? Perhaps the “change” was needed? But why? The answer came to me at the end of his set… The last four or five seething and bass-driven tracks, elevating the dancefloor with a new crisp entry every 16 measures… The final notes of the last track played and I was “on top” of everything. I was ready to go flying back into another 30hz groove when the music just stopped…. The people were cheering not for the extended breakdown – they were cheering because the party had ended.. .. And it had ended ON GAVIN’S TERMS!!! And that was the answer to all my questions! No police, no noise complaints, no silly neighbors making stupid phone calls, and certainly no rival promotors pulling crap to draw the crowd away from Bowery. Whatever he had done, whatever hoops he had jumped through, whatever strings he had to pull and whatever deals he had to make – Gavin had “cut his own hair” and found a way to have a party that rivaled Dimitri’s last Spectra/NYC appearance.. And, dare I say it, rivaled even those from the days of the Key Roller Arena. What we have here is selflessness incarnate. What we have here is somebody so concerned with delivering the best product possible that he’s willing to risk anything and everything to make it happen – even his own personal freedom. And the risk paid off! Police escorted us out of the venue instead of letting us hear Emok…. That same police forced us onto the street just as Son Kite was busy “getting into it…” But nobody but Gavin himself could escort us out of that venue! And he chose to do it ONLY after the party, as advertised, was officially over…. But simply saying “we made it through to the end” would not do this party justice… The electricity and the overall musical talent in that room were overwhelming! Like any Spectra party, we’ve come to expect the best that the world-wide trance scene has to offer. And tonight was no different. I feel like a fool for missing Mayur’s and Allen’s sets – of which I heard only good things… But Dimitri, Vibrasphere, and Gavin completely set the place ablaze – climbing the peaks, surfing the plateaus, and exploring the depths of electronic sound respectively… The venue was gorgeous…. blah blah blah…. I t was just those last four tracks….. for the first time in as long as I can remember was no calling for “more” after the last set simply out of desire…I was calling for more because after Gavin’s last four tracks I was in no condition literally, NO condition to walk out onto the cold streets of New York and “the real world.”Couples by the speakers – speaking in silence – speaking in dance…Computer geniuses in the “center” where the sound is at its apex. Assorted freaks in the side rooms doing god only knows what…. And friends in the smoking hall arguing that pornography is actually “art!” All I wanted was MORE MORE MORE!!!PLEASE!! PLEASE!! Hold on tight East Coast. Hold on. Someday you’re not going to have the gift that you have now.Someday the state you were in after Gavin’s last track WILL NOT be followed up by another track to “bring you back down.”Someday you won’t leave the room knowing “you’ll be back next month.”Someday you’ll find yourself wanting MORE and NOBODY will be there to give it to you.. And that’s when you won’t take the talent and genius you get delivered to your door for granted… That’s when there won’t be parties like the one we just had… That’s when most of you won’t be willing to “go with the flow” and chalk it up to “impermanence.”When Sweden’s finest musicians are not given to you each month, I expect many pseudo-Buddhists will be exposed – wishing and wishing that they had what they use d to… Praise Everyone!AND THANK YOU GAVIN!!!

Cleveland local colin pierce was first up on the decks and play ed a tight scratch-techno set. good to warm the space up with some beats, people showing up constantly. local DJ UZI showed up to throw down a set o f trance, 1.5 hrs earlier than we expected, the 2nd DJ was unable;e to make it, and uzi filled in and blew up the space early.. moving slickly from iboga grindy minimal to some guitar slammers, he proved his skills on the decks, and manipulated the sound system like a true madman with control. by the time kri went on there were girls grinding on couches, place filling up, crazy dance interactions and the eyeballs that were blown open were blown open further. as usual he brought a heavy rolling funk down upon the room, with long intricate matches and many slick mixer aDJustments. people not used to trance were heard commenting and generally astounded by the increase in energy and quality sounds. trance heads dominated the floor, stomping and moving ideas. Alberto and Igor and Jed and luke and Meghan and many new friends threw down on the floor trying to keep up with the cascading assault of power and intricate bomb-dropping knowledge displayed by kri. (just to let you know, the quotes indicate that KRI has taken over the writing of the review )” then came on the BSMLeshI t was a good thing that kri calmed down at the end of his set to give peeps a little break . Cause when the monkey came on the fucking gates opened up to send you full speed down the swirly zoob spiral launch ramp that blasted you into hyperspace. No lie on this one folks this set by the monkey you would have hated to miss. The boy was mixing like the pro that he is, going from one-floor blaster to another seamlessly! Sweat was flying, arms swinging, feet making holes in the floor, dam somebody needed to get the can opener out before this crew blew the top off the psychedelic worm can. By the time touchsamadhi got done with this crew of heads it was time for the moke to bang your brain with some proper trancey tek house from the other side of the coin. ” moke plays some weird variety of house that is strange and tweaked and pumping. plus his set was full of original tracks. and table tricks to freak out the heads who were jamming. there were raver s and thugs and yo’s and hos and heads and dreads and freaks and whothefuckisthats and a cop, who was nodding his head to the beat. and the party went off clean without any weirdness. except when kri and I found out there was red bull on tap and no3Done told us! raaaaaaaa! you already read about the afterparty and subsequent antics in sweet chaos post Saturday night was a blast too, at a cool cafe space in east cleve collected a jb l sound system from local DJ boompsie it got hooked up, a smokesesh and some dancing amidst afterpartyers she worked the dancefloor into a sweaty vortex, and then kri went on amazing trancers and pretty much everyone else he mixed a tight ass progggy deep set with a discman and a pioneer cDJ100 (shi te) and the mixes were tight and relentless every 3.5 mins to keep all the folks dancing and the drummers drumming! ” BSM and Naut (chill out banger oo) well of you never heard monkey deliver the chill tunes then you missed it again this time with the added Igor naut flavor even giving old monkey b oy some schooling. They started it of with some killer psy-dubish trks to lead you into a still danceable headspace of excellent tunes that still kept the party rockinB9. after naut delivered the jorg on mushroom and woke everybody the fuck up (7am), it was time to go catch the plane and go on Ass safari back to Asheville! “__ Blue Spectral Monkey I dissolve in order to play, Releasing illusion. John Draper AKA Cap’n Crunch was at this event:
A trance celebrity is in town for a couple of days, the aged Cap’n Crunch, old friends with Goa Gil, famous around the world not only as a trance idealist but the very first phone hacker. I have a page for him on my site, when Tsunami did a party at the cooler..
I don’t know if any of you remember, but in some earlier review I mentioned that I often judge a party by how many days it takes me to get home after the party, the longer it takes, the better the party. Well I just got home. Monday 7pm. Yes, it was a good party. actually, it was great. To the people who complain about the crowd at Arc being too mixed up, and not enough trance people. Maybe you should relax a bit, lighten up… life is full of all types of people… dancing around with a couple of them doesn’t hurt. Secondly, if all of us who do not go to Arc trance parties because of the crowd… well if we actually went, then there would be more trance people there, and the $30 that isn’t worth it for some people, would def. become worth it. Anyway, I went, and am happy that I did. We got there at 2am and the place was full, and there was a pretty positive feeling in the air. One of the first things I noticed was Chai’s psy-fluoro paintings all over the place… they are so good, they really bring life to the space, a very trippy life. So the place was packed (even more people than the SunProject party), and the music going strong. MOD (Minds of the Demented), the boyz from Pennsylvania, were playing some pretty good sounds. I’ve heard them before, and appreciate there smoothness and consistency… full-on sounds hovering along, good track selection…. it’s good to play them before main acts, because they play pretty good, but you can still feel yourself anticipating and feeling the suspense of whatever is to come next. Their sound balance and EQ was pretty good, as Dr. Cata pointed out, though I did notice that the overall output had a bit of a muted, muffled feel to it, and the levels could have been higher. I assumed that they had been given a limit on master output etc… so that whoever came on after them could crank it up.I seem to have been right, when Astral started their Dj set, the sound levels went up, and the overall feel was crisper. And it sounded good! They did not only play their tracks, they mixed it up with others too. I really liked how they started their set, positive psychedelic sounds but not many layers… more groove than tune. Very good transition, and it left them lots of room to expand and move towards the full-on Astral sound. Which they did… 20 minutes into it and already there were euphoric overtones in the air and people’s faces. They slowly made their way down to the live-set stage, while keeping the set-music pumping out through the speakers. When they were ready they started what everyone had been waiting for.Astral Projection Live!!! They started very good, and it took them maybe 15-20 minutes to get to the point were suddenly the whole club was “swimming in the Astral ocean” – Dr. C Their new sounds were very nice, with a lot of push and mystery, but still positive, and almost sweet at times. I was craving for some new techniques, sounds, anything… and finally it happened… they started adding these twisted tweaked high pitched trebles, really loud and crisp, and they would pan through all the speakers. Sometimes jumping across the dancefloor, other times circling the whole space. I don’t know what equipment they were using to generate these sounds, but they had obviously done the output balance in a way that these added tweaks were not meant to hide within the music, they were supposed to be layed right on top of it, like a completely separate entity/organism within the music. I thought it was great and very effective. When they would do it some people would have this -what’s going on?- look on their faces, other people’s faces reflected that actual sounds that were being tweaked into the track. Mr Safi. came up to me and said “don’t worry Jehan, its not the lucy sky -a diamond in your system, they are adding those sounds… and they are too loud.” I told him that I wasn’t worried at all, I knew what they were and that I felt like I knew what universe they (the sounds) were from too, I told him that they were from a loud universe, and they were just visiting. 10 minutes later I looked over at Mr. Safi while those sounds were being tweaked in, and he was totally tweaking with them. Looks like they got introduced to one another. Looks like the lighting guy got introduced to them too, you could tell that the guy in charge of the lighting was having a great time, and he was doing a great job too… I’m sure he craves the trance parties, because its the most fun for any lighting specialist. So Astral kept on and on, doing what they have been doing for so many years, but to me, it seemed they had kept in tune with the change in times and sounds, but still kept their original Astral feel. I must confess that I was never a huge Astral Projection fan, most of the time their music was too layered, overly positive to the point of being unreal… I always felt that they abused the other side of sound…. the other side being silence. I felt that a good track is one that works with the positive and negative space… for example what makes a rhythm is not only the beat, but the silence between the beats. I often felt that Astral was not in tune with this aspect of music. I have noticed that the music starting to come out these days is more in tune with this, and was hoping that Astral Projections had tuned into some of the new styles and used them in their music. So I am very glad that I ent to this party because in my opinion, their music did have a sensitivity to the sound-silence balance but also kept to the original Astral Sound which they are so well known for. I now have much much more respect for them. And whether I used to like Astral or not, they are still the best in that style of trance. Yoni played after Astral Projection. While he was getting ready Astral played a track off a CD. Once Yoni was set up and ready to go he stopped the Astral track, not even on beat, everyone looked up, and you could tell he was saying – ‘what is this shit’ he put on his track, which started with the sample saying “This is a restricted area…” and some nice heavy bass came rolling on in after it. He hijacked their headphones too. He played a very good set. I couldn’t stop moving. If you are wondering what the chill-out room was like, forget about it. I could not leave the dancefloor. With half an hour to go, Astral had to leave and needed their headphones… there were no others around (!!!???!?!?) so Yoni had to give up the headphones. The trance went on. Yoni kept at it, with no headphones! Nice one. I don’t remember but I think the party went past 8am, and ended very nicely with still quite a lot of people there, and everyone looking good and happy. Thankyou Astral Projections, Yoni, MOD, Tsunami, Chai, the lighting guy, and everyone else involved. Bom Shankar.

If you plan on coming please send an email to me on jehan7777 , so we have a rough idea of how many people may show up…. if you wanna eat, I would advise coming before 9pm. Dont forget to RSVP. jehan7777 – if you forget, no problem, you can still come, but it would be helpful – bomshankar
Nan just gave me a call telling me that the party is still going strong! With some luck might be an all-weekend thing! Anyone up for DJing or to just work off that meal from yesterday head over to Brooklyn. The directions have been posted already-55 Lexington Ave. 4 day INDOOR party–when was the last time we’ve been to one of those in this area?
there is no internet at the loft. there are like 4 phone numbers posted, call them until you get an answer. or, just go.
Trancegiving Is Still Giving In Brooklyn From: “nan” Yep, folks…it’s true. This party will not stop!>;-)I would have stayed but have to work tomorrow morning. Retail, remember? Anyway, scheduled to appear are two OmnitribeDJs: SHIKID & Kief and Dreamcatcher’s Influx around 5 in the morning. All DJs welcome as there’s plenty of time…When I left there were about 25+ people and more arriving as I waited for the car service. The dance/dinner hall is amazing. Lori and Boris did wonders with a yellow light, a red light, and a mirror ball. Windows are covered w/tapestries that gave the appearance of stained glass earlier today. Sound system is also Lori and Boris’ and it kicks ass! Gotta love a space where you can have the music up as loud as you want w/out getting hassled.
And that was one of, if not the best, Thanksgiving Days I’ve ever had. Talk about family! Wowwowwow! So get out there! It’s worth weathering a little rain. And if it’s still going tomorrow nite you can bet I’ll be there!

extended through the weekend People there now, still going strong, great spot. All info posted on NYC604 and Safetydance. I’m in Texas, I’ll be back Monday, just in time to completely miss the festivities. I would post the info here but there are just too many unknowns here to post non-commercial hookups..
The more you trancegive, the more you tranceget, and nekkid peopleTrancegiving rocked in Brooklyn for three days. See Nan’s “Top 10” at the bottom of this newsletter for her extended review. It’s a must-read. The Rainbows showed up, people got nekkid. They even had Death Metal John bring the lasers. James of Deeper in Zen woulda been happy. Wish I was there but I was in Texas. I gave Evan a very lame call midnight Monday to see if by chance the party was still going on.. he was on another plane! no amount of homegrown castanedan animal yoga is gonna bring that place back to reality! If you complain about the state of the scene and didn’t go at least one of the days/nights, you are nothing but a GOOBER. You just are. And if you ain’t on NYC604 or Safetydance (even better), get on them. ANYONE can be on TripOut, some sketchy dude on this list (bad bts wannabe) tried to get me to tell him the address of Trancegiving. Told him to stick it. I hate thieves and am launching new vigor into defending trance from known thieves. So if you want the detes on the best stuff, delurk yerself, find me in person at a party somewhere and tell me who you are, it helps to write your email on a piece of paper… ‘Nuff said.
Figured I’d *review* the Trancegiving party with a top 10 list, so here goes:
1. Officially started when the bird went into the oven which was 3:35 on Thursday afternoon and officially ended at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
2. The turkey, for the first time in history, was an early bird finishing an hour ahead of time and eaten around 11:00 p.m.
3. Lori and Boris’ red/yellow lights on mirror ball reflecting around the room and ceiling producing the perfect Trancegiving colors.
4. Lori and Boris providing the kick-ass sound system for the duration of the party. And Knob’s CDJs included.
5. The biggest batch of homemade potato salad ever! There were still leftovers of it after the party stopped!
6. In a message dated 11/29/9:19:13 PM Eastern Standard Time, EViL9mm at hotmail writes: the party still goin on through tonite? what are you from Westchester? of course. until Sunday. bring food, drink, good vibes, wish I was there
7. Nonstop kickass psytrance from Jehan, Knob, Boris, Ian, Adam, Mayur, Evan, [and S.H.I.K.I.D, Stas, Fofa (OmniTribe)], Influx who never got to play but showed up anyway. See/hear his new stuff this Thursday tho. 😉 (Anybody I missed? Let me know, thanks.)
8. Cops sat outside on Thursday night/Friday morning just itching to do something but never had good enough reason to. Hehehh.
9. Hearing a description of the dining hall as first for *psychedelic pilgrims dining under black lights*.
10. Adam, Ian, Joey and Chris bringing the youngest (Adam and Joey’s daughter, Eddyl, age approx 3 years old) and the eldest (A Star, age approx 75 years old and the head of the Rainbow tribe) females to Trancegiving on Thursday and Saturday nights and dancing with them on the same floor.
And thanks most of all to Evan, Cata and Akin for their support and graciousness throughout the whole event. Without them and the loft in Brooklyn this would never have happened. And Akin with his potato and apple peeling skills…not to mention his runs to the deli to get papertowels, trashbags, mayo and tp. Heheheh. Thank you and I love you all so much. Your home is magical. See you soon to just hang out and chill. 😉 I’ll bring a pizza or somthin…heheheh. One nekkid dude who dubbed himself The Coolest Guy in The World tripped for the first time and got nekkid! Yes, we had a nekkid man dancing around for quite a while before Boris and Evan insisted he get dressed. That lasted for a short while before he got nekkid again. Eventually having totally exhausted himself he ended up sleeping, clothed, on the couch. Hope ya had sweet dreams, Cool One. Heheh.
I must thank everyone who helped make that party the special party that it was. I was only able to catch the sat night through Sunday morning and I saw and felt some amazing things and some not so amazing things, but ppl worked hard and fought through the night to keep the flame alive. there was no other way I could’ve spent thanksgiving . . .peaaace and love Zev(glowing shirt with Tibetan writing on it)
Excellent party! Thanks, guys: Evan, Kata, Akeem, Zhenia, Kenya (sorry
if I misspelled some of your names). It was like a magical 3-day indoor trance festival (like none before)! And, of course, a big thanks from all of us to the two DJs who spun like madmen non-stop through the first night and the next day: Jehan and the other DJ whose name I forgot, unfortunately. You played over 12 hours each, alternating occasionally for some rest. That’s some dedication! As I was lying on a couch late on Friday, almost passed out from all that dancing, but still shaking my body intact to your beats, I was wandering when you’d get tired and just say ‘fuck it’ (because no new DJs were in sight to replace you). But you never did.

Trip Out New York is looking for interviewers who will interviewer their favorite artists, the results of which will appear here. I’m looking for people to interview both international acts and local producer/DJ/artist/empresario talent. On email. For example, Vitalik and Shai, Jacob, Son Kite, etc etc. Let me know before you do it! I want to see one interview a week here. And I don’t do enough crystal to interview everyone myself. Nor do I know enough to ask he most intelligent and appropriate questions. The ideal is, interview someone you know a lot about, and is active or is going to be doing something here soon. The world is your oyster… be your own – Gonad O’Brien. DJ Groupies: here’s your chance for an “entree.”

12.5 (11pm) The Coral Room (512 W 29th St, 212.244.1965) $15 web genesisp-orridge/ Psychedelic provocateur Genesis P-Orridge’s dedication to the fringe spans more than 20 years shocking all comers with audacious imagery and mindbending avant-noise, often bordering on the unlistenable. As Psychic TV’s gas began to run out in the late ’80s, P-Orridge became one of the first Brits to take on acid house. This Anglicization of acid is epitomized on Jack the Tab: Tekno Acid Beat (1988), a seriously perverted sound collage designed to rewire the listener’s mind. P-Orridge’s reassembled cast of characters, including author Douglas Rushkoff on keys and vocals, is joined by Honeygun Labs in what is sure to be the weirdest thing you see all week. Nick from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs opens with a DJ set.

And finally, it’s safe to say, we are truly psychedelic pilgrims.

Birthday party at Cata’s
Apology from Riad
Last night I had a phenomenal time at Cata’s b’day until the incident where I well and truly embarrassed myself. I endangered not only my health and well being but also the rest of the night for everyone. For that, I cannot begin to tell all of you all how sorry I am and will ensure I curb my gung-ho attitude. The consequences of my actions would have been far greater If it wasn’t for Brian who prevented me from falling flat out and saved me in the nick of time…Also a very big thank you to the girl with the black hat ( I’m sorry I don’t remember your name), Cata, Jehan, Emilia, Aken, Noby, and everyone who ensured I was safe and supported me when I needed it the most. It is cos of you’ll that I’m at home and safe rather than in a hospital bed with cops around me waiting for me to recover to through me in jail. Once again I’m very sorry and promise to be more responsible in the future. Bom Shankar!Riad
From: “Riad” As much as I find great humor in the circumstances… in retrospect ie….I don’t remember anything! All I know is that one minute I’m dancing my balls off and the next I have a couple of concerned faces staring down at me…So please if anyone can tell me what exactly happened, I would really feel much lighter…all I remember is black! Especially after naked boy’s escapade the other day I need some reassurance!! And thank you my dear Rebecca…you’re a gem! Bom Shankar! Riad

December 18 Thursday
Thiassos
Last chance to make the Thursday weekly really happen
LAST CHANCE OR NO MORE WEEKLIES THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WEEKLY VENUES THIS SCENE HAS EVER HAD… GREAT LOCATION… GREAT STAFF (YOU CAN SMOKE)… GREAT OPPORTUNITIES DE FUMAR… GREAT SOUND SYSTEM SYSTEM… FREE IF YOU DON’T COME THIS WILL BE THE LAST NIGHT and trust me nobody has any plans to do weeklies any time soon. All the major players have tried and given up due to low attendance. There are 1270 people on this list, if less than 3 percent came out it would succeed. -THURSDAY!! Dreamcatcher presents: Psychegrounds at Thiasos eaw sound system progressive and full-on sets by: DJ leo (influx – transmitmusic – Dreamcatcher) DJ influx – (Dreamcatcher – transmitmusic – ftp) from 10:00 til 04:00 21 w id location: Thiasos- 59 w 21st( corner of 6th ave ) (they are resuscitating for one more week) Common people…. everyone is always saying where and when are the weekly parties, and when there are none, people complain. So then when someone puts energy into making one, for example, Mr. Influx… and his weekly Thursday party…. give me one reason why it shouldn’t be packed. Please, if you want weekly parties, please show up when someone does one for you… otherwise, the bar who hosts it is not going to let it happen. You need us to party, we need you to party. Help your local scene. If the turnout is bad this Thursday, it will stop, and then again there will be no weekly party, and then everyone will start complaining. Don’t let it happen. You don’t have to come every week… just show the bar owners that there are enough of us out there to make it work. because there are enough of us, and it does work, so make it happen. PLEASE! See you there. this week Leo, Vitalik, Knob. you cant get more killer than that.

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” – Albert Einstein > From: dave henshaw Transforming space from secular to sacred is primarily done in two ways. First, there’s “flash transformation” – that is to say; a space goes from secular/profane to sacred with the realization and/or execution of some serious event. Mt. Sinai transformed because Moses was given the ten commandments at its peak. Calvary transformed because Jesus was crucified there. Sure, most of these “spaces” no longer exist in physicality, but their “sacredness” cannot be denied. There is no one “Bodhi Tree” in existence that Siddartha was enlightened under, but the event that supposedly “happened there” retains it as a “sacred space.” Secondly, a space can go from profane to sacred through a long process of ritual and repetition. There are monasteries along the northern route of the Camino de Santiago in Spain that were supposedly built by St. James himself. Though these spaces were not built-to-be-sacred, they have since become so through centuries of monastic and pilgrim-oriented use. In fact, some of the monasteries were simply built to protect James as he brought the word of the Lord through Spain – and were never intended to remain standing as long as they have… But we live in post-modern times where we have no more “great wars” like St James had.. We have no more “great moral-stands” to make like Moses did! Science and reason have found ways to take over! We have no more direct descendants of God. We have no more miracles and displays of power from some “force above.” Our faith is tested by the day! That said, we have to ask – is there any such thing as space transformation anymore? Some new-age proponents will stand up and argue that burning sage and reciting certain ritual chants in a room long enough will lead to that space becoming sacred… But will such ritual truly stand the test of time the same way, say, the Wailing Wall has? I contend that we must realize the weight of time and space, especially in such a subjective and sensory-overloaded epoch, can no longer stay constant enough to make and keep sacred space! Everything is changing so fast that all we really have is “flash” sacredness…. And, in these times, I’d say that any transformation is indeed merely temporary! That is to say, the space is ONLY sacred insofar as the ritual and/or event is taking place AT THAT MOMENT. And upon completion of that ritual or event, the space is no longer sacred…. Space can “become” sacred, but can no longer “stay” sacred through time… I used to live in a Co-op in New London, CT. (Bear with the tangents) It was occupied and run by about 30 people – all your basic commune-dwellers. Activists, Vegans, Hardcore left-wing fanatics, people who – like myself – were hell-bent on saving the world from itself. Anyway… We had a common TV for the house and every Sunday, we’d all gather to watch the new episode of “The Simpsons.” Thirty people packed into one room, staring at the TV in dead silence… When the commercials would come on – every person would turn to the person next to them and start talking. Immediately, ten conversations would begin and the whole room would feel like a cocktail party. As soon as the Simpsons came back on – the place would go silent again. Even those in mid-sentence would simply stop talking and turn their head to the TV. It was not considered “rude” or “anti-social” – or even a little bit weird… it was simply understood that there is NOTHING more important than The Simpsons. Whatever you had to “say” – no matter what it was – was NOT more important than the show at that moment. Because “The Simpsons” were on TV – that living room was (in the minds of the people of that Co-op) a sacred space… And just like nobody would dare talk during the homily at a mass, neither would anyone dare speak over that cartoon…. I saw parallels on Saturday….. Was there even anyone out on the smoking patio during Son Kite’s set? Did anyone use the bathroom? Did anyone engage in verbal communication? So Peter DiDJital plays his last track (amazing set, by the way – what was that Rolling Stones/Speak ‘n’ spell Remix thing going on??) and there is suddenly a level of “something is happening here” that goes over the crowd… But we have to ask, at this point – what comes first, the feeling or the sound? Did the crowd start to think “something is happening” and, feeling that emotion en masse, Sebastian and Marcus decide to put on a relatively “religious” and “sacred” opening track? OR did Sebastian and Marcus put on that track and hence create the feeling within the crowd?? Any way you slice it – the transformation of the space began…. People simply “shut the hell up” and began to slowly push their ways towards the front. I imagined Neo and Trinity when they got out of the elevator in the second Matrix and the throngs of people – who had all been waiting – were just gravitationally drawn to them… Slowly they rose and began walking towards “the one” – no haste, no panic, and – in my contention – no real conscious awareness! Just a simple (yet very complex) metaphysical gravitational pull towards the force that is not only transforming physical space, but also doing the same service to the emotional and/or maturation processes of those so lucky to listen…. > As the set progressed (and please, let me make one musical comment here: – who else heard the bass/kick line from Son Kite’s Remix of Cosma’s “Out of Range” being played underneath the synth melody from “Recieve Part II?” Maybe I was imagining it, but I had never heard those two played together and, might I say, it sounded AMAZING!!), Son Kite just played… and played… and transformed as they played…. Marria made the perfect comment when the set was all done. She said “I think everyone in that audience “evolved” tonight. I think we’re all a little bit more aware and a little bit more along in the evolutionary chain simply for hearing that set.” She couldn’t have been any more right on… And it wasn’t just Son Kite, and it wasn’t just the music, and it wasn’t just the space, or the DJ’s or the drinks, or the time of day… It was everything!! It was all of that and it was none of that! Without every single event and every single interaction that happened on Saturday, the same emotional import would not have arrived. “Synchronicity,” “Providence,” – use any fancy word you want to describe it – but the fact is without everyone and everything at that party that night – the whole event would have been altered away from the perfection that it represented… > And this is where I end up like Job…. My mouth ends up stuffed with dust and ashes. This is where my mind shuts off and I lose the ability to think, rationalize and philosophize and define the ways this party was. This is the moment I live to go to parties. This is where there is nothing left to say and nothing left to write. This is where the party will come back in my mind about twenty years from now and I can finally say “so THAT is what it meant to me!” For now, though, it’s merely an ineffable and religious experience that – even during Son Kite’s set – I could hardly give words to… (I actually remember my friend Peter coming over to me during the set and saying hello… and all I could do was partially mumble the slurred word “religious” into his ear. I felt like a divine idiot… I felt like Dostoevsky’s Mishkin…. I felt like Rain Man….) > And I guess that’s all that can be said…. And I guess that’s the greatest compliment an artist and event can be given! We no longer have anything to make us “believe.” We, as a culture, have almost lost the ability and capacity to “feel religious.” No matter what, there are only a few things and people in the lives of all of us that can make us feel the way those two women must have felt in the presence of the risen Christ. Or the way all those Zionians felt in the presence of Neo and Trinity… People want to feel that way – the nostalgic yearning is so apparent – but there are so few forces today that provide that feeling…. Maybe, just maybe, Spectra’s five-year anniversary party was one of those forces…. Maybe it went beyond any details and minutia of a “trance party” and became something totally different based upon the mixtures of the artists, DJs, dancers, and forces that were all present in their given proportion…. > > THANK YOU to everyone who was there, who helped out, who danced, who did anything to make the night what it was… onwards, onwards, onwards!!!!!

Saturday Night Party Review by musiccool2000 I took the metro-north train into NYC Saturday night. I hung out with my friend Orit at her apartment in the east village, celebrated the last night of Hannukah, drank beer, and smoked not-tobacco. I then headed off to the party Kamal was throwing at a bar on 11th street between 1st and 2nd Avenue. When I got to the party at 2am, there were only 12 people in the entire joint. Good trance, nice DJing by Kamal. But the bar turned off the music at 3am and closed because enough people didn’t show up. So I ended up hanging out with Ben from Lightomatic at his apartment in the village listening to trance with a couple of Trance DJs from Jersey. Oh yeah, I also met this cute 26-year-old Black Chick from Norwalk, Connecticut (I’m from Darien, which is the town next to Norwalk). Her name is Jen, She said she is on Kamal’s Dragontribe List on Yahoo Groups.I wish more people had shown up, it’s a FREE PARTY!

Alladin project – New York City Hi all. Here is my review of the Alladin Project’s New Year’s Eve party at 48 Bowery in New York City, and the after-party in Brooklyn. I took the 8:48 Metro-North train into New York City. I drank 4 beers on the train… a few minutes before the train pulled into the station I offered a couple of extra beers I had to a couple of cute blond girls sitting in the seat behind me. One of the girls asked me “Is your name Malcolm?”. It turned out her name was Natalie and she had gone to high school with me. After we schmoozed and caught up on old times, traded phone numbers, I hopped the 4 train from Grand Central down to Canal. I was impressed with the artwork hanging from the walls at 48 Bowery. The free open bar until 11pm (I drank 4 free beers) and the free champagne at midnight, helped off-set the 60 dollar cover charge. I was impressed with the music…I heard a lot of full-on and old school Goa remixes. I met a lot of Israelis and Brazilians and Cute Japanese girls at the party. I thought it was a wonderful night. Except for the sound system. It sounded as though the Sub-woofer was blown, and the high end of the mix was Way too loud. After the party, Kelly Was nice enough to drive me and a bunch of Israelis we picked up over to Brooklyn. The afterparty in Brooklyn at 55 Lexington was really chill. When I got there Akin was spinning a nice full-on set. I got a chance to hear a lot of new tracks of psytrance. I ended up staying all day….chilling drinking beer watching the Animatrix….after the party, I got a cup of coffee with Rebbeka and we discussed how the rainbow tribe (rainbow tribe Big group of hippies) is looking for a place to hold their potluck dinner….then I took the 4 train to grand central…and slept the whole way back to Connecticut on the metro-north.
December 31 Wednesday

2004 it feels like a capacitor about to blow. We are being pushed to the limit. We feel crowded out of our current lives while being prepared for new shining realities. The problem seems to lie in the fact that we are stuck somewhere in the middle of joy. Starry-eyed folks.
