Infected Mushroom at the New Chaos
BLAST! My dreams of the Twilo crew finally hosting a psytrance event were dashed yet again… who knows what happened but the important thing is that Infected has been here for days; the venue has changed to the New Chaos, which has hosted many rolling Israelis listening to their particular version of high energy house music… sound system is not bad but they may supplement it. There was a trance party there back in the days when it was the Bank, called Trancespotting:
INFECTED MUSHROOM are in Manhattan since Monday morning. LAST MINUTE VENUE CHANGE for Wednesday night: TSUNAMI’s “INFECTED MUSHROOM” party has been moved from Club Arc to: C H A O S 225 East Houston Street (corner Avenue A) trains: F to 1st Avenue All the rest, including hours, ticket information, line-up are the same. Looking forward to an infectious and liberating party! JEG
Infected/Tsuyoshi review and NY psytrance soapbox Infected Mushroom at New Chaos: At least 800! Tsuyoshi at Vilo: 50 Tsuyoshi would have done much better had Infected rolled around for a two-day slammer at the same place.. Note to future psytrance organizers – DON’T GIVE VILO AN INCH!! Well, if there ever was a battle for the future of trance music, it was fought this week and audiences in New York voted with their feet. The insane last-minute venue switch worked best.. after an impossible back and forth round of negotiations between Tsunami’s John Emmanuel and Club ARC manager Mike Bindra (formerly manager of Twilo – now of the new shall we call it Vilo??) Infected Mushroom was moved to the venue at the New Chaos, which was literally SHAKING, all three floors pounding with mad energy, with a huge line still at 4am… too bad they didn’t play “Live” was there not enough room? meanwhile, things were quiet and business as usual… we got to the newly managed and refurbished Vinyl/Twilo (Twinyl?) after Tsuoyoshi’s set and the complete non-psychedelicness of the Twilo mindset was in full regalia… few people, dead promo – no insane vibe, just start and stop confusion segueing into a mind-numbing house beat, any novelty through to the shredder. Mike Bindra, the former manager of Twilo and new manager of Vinyl/Club ARC, STILL has NEVER EVER EVER had a psytrance party in his domain – “Psy-” in trance scares him, hey maybe someone should make psychological trance… you’d think a half Indian half Dutch would be perfectly aligned to Goa Psy-Trance. OK, he has some slack because the city shut down Twilo, but THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS when you foster a culture that will seem to support a serotonin depleted neurochemistry through overindulgence in music that is made to make you feel good when on E, and people start dying from heat exhaustion, but this is all a tangent. Point is, you go for the low hanging fruit, the suckers who want to wear Diesel and roll every weekend, there are prices to pay. Happiness ain’t to be gotten from a pill. groan Oh yeah, there are also good mirrors behind the DJs so you can see what they play, how they play, but the design gets a little oppressive when you need a BRACELET to get into the coveted VIP room (which you can see through a window from the main floor)

P.S.I. – Acid Reflux: The First Trip in the Pine Barrens
First DJ Set: Pat Mescalinium and Neil Funkmaster Fleish/Infinite Sun
The best ever tristate area psytrance outdoor festivals outside the city have been… Burning Elf (it was a PERSONAL thing!), Phantasm (with Goa Gil 2 years ago), Burning Elf’s Lord of the Rings last May, and Acid Reflux in south Jersey last weekend. The PSI outdoor in the Pine Barrens in south New Jersey last Saturday was really good. Looking forward to their next one in August.
PSI brings you a hallucinatory event. An evening of psychedelic trance in a beautiful, outdoor forest setting your all-vinyl techno-shamans for the evening:11:00 – 2:00Mark (Philadelphia Shamanista Initiative, Philadelphia) Opening up with a groovy, minimal intro set and phasing into some more full-on sounds2:00 – 5:00 Merlin and Dharmaz Reptile (Twisted Minds, New York/London) These two deck wizards are bringing you 3 hours of peak-of-the-night, full-on, psychedelic madness5:00 – 8:00 Mescalinium (Philadelphia Shamanista Initiative, New York/Philadelphia)Spinning a thoroughly modern set of uplifting, melodic trance to coincide with the sunrise location: This event will take place in a forest clearing located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The area is approximately 2 hours outside of New York City, and 1 1/2 hours outside of Philly. The field itself is extremely isolated and is miles from any residential area. There will be a designated area for parking. Please emailSunshineGoa3, with “PSI party” somewhere in the subject line, for directions. Directions will also be posted later this week. This place is a gorgeous, pristine oasis of nature in its purest form. We must respect the land and LEAVE NO TRACE. Please take care of all personal items/trash etc. Because of recent forest fires in the Pine Barrens, we ask that no fires be permitted.
Bring: Water, food, blankets, tents/camping gear, flashlights, good vibes, incense, tapestries, friends, black lights, strobe lights, other visuals, herbal refreshments… etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This gathering IS NOT rain or shine. Unfortunately, heavy rain may render the field temporarily inaccessible due to mud. In the event of inclement weather, we will postpone the party and send a mass email on the day of the event or sooner. (To get on the PSImailing list, please send a message to SunshineGoa3 ). This will be a free party. Nonetheless, donations to the Initiative is a non-profit organization 😉 and will go to finance future psychedelic events. This promises to be a special and memorable night. The Dj’s and organizers are all very excited and enthusiastic. We hope you can make it out and be a part of it.- Pat and Neil (The PSI team)
A Thank You From The PSI People!
From: Patrick J Myers To everyone who made it out on Saturday: THANK YOU!To everyone who brought lighting, equipment, refreshments, and so many other things that contributed to the positive atmosphere: THANK YOU! To all the DJs, organizers, dancers, and everyone who helped out: THANK YOU! To everyone who couldn’t make it out: We’ll see at our next party! A special thanks go out to our close friend Josh, who was injured in a bicycle accident on the day of the party and was unable to make it out. Josh was integral to the planning stages of this event, and, among many other things, designed and printed the flyer. We wish you a speedy recovery! Thank you to Theo and Sam (Merlin and Dharmaz Reptile, respectively) who not only came out and spun a wicked tag-team set, but also helped us set up the sound system, and helped clean up and move out in the morning. Thanks to our friend Ian, without whom we could not have had this party. Ian lent us two of his speakers, and let us use his van for transporting equipment. Thanks to Ben and Boris, et. al., for bringing out some serious black lights which definitely took the party to another level. Thanks to Rocky for the awesome video projections. Thanks to our friend Nicole, who helped drive out some people for us after Josh went down. Thanks to everyone who gave us donations at the end (unsolicited no less!). And finally, thanks to everyone who stayed and kept dancing through the rain all the way to the end! We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The 2nd Trip is already in the planning stages. We’re bringing you more sound, more DJs, more music, more lighting, more visuals, more everything!!! Stay tuned and stay psychedelic,- Pat and Neil (The PSI Team)P.S.(I.?) Have a friend who’d be interested in our future events? I went in the woods and shot K and came back in an angry K hole and tried to start a rebellion against the organizers who had confiscated food at the door. I also took my nice Indian clothes in a plastic bag and got a ride from Jonathan Payer to a wedding Saturday also upstate for my friend Thor Atreides. On the ride home I surreptitiously had sex with a Japanese girl in the back seat who sat on my lap while Jonathan was oblivious, driving.
When Psytrance had its Fyre Festival Moment
(Ed. note: Eli the organizer actually ended up making amends with a free party, and joined a conservative sect in Israel shortly afterward)
July 29, 2002
The organizer was Eli who used to own House of Trance. He operates under Global Trance Productions. If making money is a badge of quality then he has succeeded better than anyone else. He was helped by his friend Ricky. Phantasm was just playing and did not organize it. I have fwded all emails to phantasmusa at hotmail, which is Eli’s address. If anyone knows how to reach John Phantasm that would be helpful to get this feedback to him as it reflects poorly on the artists. And was it me or was it me dreaming when on the last morning a carnival barker voice was saying over the PA, “Come to the Concession stand and buy all your food” in a really evil voice? Who WAS that? all was good except for no green nuns and the food – the food and water being taken was really unpopular to say the least. you should never ever ever do that again, it fucked with the vibe. I’ve NEVER heard of that being done before, you should have at least mentioned it on the flyer. People spent all their money on food and water and then were too poor to buy it from you. The several hundred dollars you may have gotten back does not justify it – it will be harder for you to have nearly as many people at the next event. here are emails I got on Saturday and Sunday. everyone was negative focusing exclusively on the confiscated food and water: “A friend just called me. They just took his money before notifying him that no food or water from the outside is allowed. NOWHERE on the flyer is that stated. They all packed up a bunch of stuff to go up and are sooo pissed off right now. Save yourself the trouble of food. He spent well over 100 bucks on food to bring up. There was a last-minute venue change and now this. sigh hmm.. it better be good.” “that’s really fucked up! a 3-day festival, yo bring your own stuff and then you’re told to trash it (basically) That’s sooooo wrong. I suppose you can’t bring your own toilet paper too.” “That is the most fucked thing I have heard of this summer. You absolutely MUST be shitting me! If I went up there I would have packed myself a deli again. What the hell is going on around here?? Gremlins?? People really have to get a little more prepared before people get on the highway. Man, I wish New York Trancers good luck. This shit has to stop, that is just plain cruel. Good thing I did not go, my Pissed off MetalHead NYHC side would have definitely made an appearance, lucky I was not there.” “How could it be good?? That’s totally mad wick wickety wack!! I’d hate to jump the gun here so are you sure your friend Scotty wasn’t reporting an “alternate reality”?? I knew something was rotten in Denmark when the 24-hr infoline didn’t have any info, and they lied about Green Nuns on the flyer, but I didn’t expect anything as bad as not allowing food or water for a three-day festival. If it’s true, that’s just totally $$%$&* at $!!! Didn’t HOT try to gouge people at an outdoor festival a couple of years ago?? I’ve seen monkey-shit fights at the zoo that made El Cuco look organized, but at least the monkeys weren’t trying to rob each other :/” “what else can you expect from these people they haven’t done one party without lying or bullshitting I say fuck em! fuck em up their stupid asses!”
“Top 10 reasons why the so-called party thrown by “Global Trance Productions” and “Phantasm Records America” was a complete and total SCAM:
1) The venue has transformed itself from a “120-acre private vacation resort” into some trailer trash backyard about 15 miles away from the original location. The route was marked with dimly-lit “OM” signs.
2) All food and water was confiscated at the door, even though there was no mention of this on the flyer. Water was being sold inside at $3 a bottle. Hamburger $4, hot dog $4.
Served by sickly, anorexic Swedish girls.
I’ve heard that some of the confiscated food was being resold as well. Most people managed to sneak at least some supplies in, but all jugs of water were taken. I’ve spent close to $40 buying water at the party.
3) We were treated to an extra-special way-too-long set by DJ Yawni, and then two sets by the Phantasm family, consisting mostly of hits from the “Complete and Unabridged GMS Box Set”. All musicians (the Phantasms, Space Cat and one other dude with a Powerbook, who I guess was Green Nuns) packed up and took off in an unknown direction around 11 am, leaving the DJ booth unmanned. I do not know if they ever returned.
4) There were TWO port-a-johns (and no water WHATSOEVER apart from the aforementioned $3 bottles) for (I’m guessing) 300 people who crammed into that space for 2 nights. I do not know if the party “organizers” ever planned to clean them.
5) They didn’t allow any unauthorized fires in the camping area, promising “one big bonfire” near the dancefloor. Somehow they’ve forgotten to bring any firewood, however, and from 3 a.m. on they kept feeding the fire with FRESHLY CUT YOUNG TREES.
6) Two unfortunate friends fell for the “private vacation cabins” part of the scam. I guess the half-rusted trailer and shack were supposed to play the part of those cabins. They’re supposed to be getting their money back.
7) The police came around several times during the first night. As a result, the sound system was constantly playing at about 10% of its volume. The cops promised to return around 2 or 3 a.m. the following night and shut everything down, which I hope they did. This was the first time EVER that I’ve welcomed the presence of uniformed police officers at a trance party, since there was clearly a crime being committed.
8) We took off on Saturday – as soon as the acid, which we’ve foolishly taken the previous night, wore off. It was the single worst bad trip in my life. I felt like I was on a downtown A train on Monday morning. When we left, the gatekeeper notified us that there is a $20 re-entry fee per vehicle. The fuckin’ nerve he had. He was lucky I had no heavy objects near my hands when he stuck his face into our car. The first thing that I bought at the nearest gas station was a big bottle of water, the tastiest Poland Spring I’ve ever had.
9) My ticket cost $95. A friend of mine bought tickets and a day before “the show” at $105. A simple calculation shows that the advance ticket sales were on the order of $20,000, and that’s discounting the many folks who bought tickets at the door at $120, and that was BEFORE they were robbed of their food and water supplies. Having organized trance parties before, I have a general idea of what a party with a $20,000 budget should look like; this wasn’t it. Basically, somebody pocketed our money.
10) It’s hard to say who was behind all this, since no one, in particular, seemed to be in charge. There were some people who looked like the owners of the place and they weren’t happy about what was going on, either. There were a bunch of Israelis, with a varying degree of shadiness, who might or might not have been the promoters. The House of Trance crew was there, but sort of hung out on the sidelines. I surely do hope that Phantasm Records had nothing to do this great highway robbery since I used to like the music they put out. However, their name was plastered all over the flyer and they owe us at least an explanation. The only reason I bought my ticket to this party: The 2nd House of Trance festival with John Phantasm and Goa Gil in upstate NY in 2000 was amazing – good music, excellent organization, great vibe. It was a great experience shared by almost the entire New York trance tribe. Water and food were not taken away at the door. The promoters of this weekend’s party were very clearly riding the wave of the 2000 festival and expectations were very high, judging by the great crowd they managed to lure in. Too bad they had absolutely no respect for our tribe. All they wanted was our money. I guess I should have known better than going to a $100 party. Right now I feel like never again going to a commercial trance party in New York, unless it is organized by OmniTribe or Spectra. The trance vibe here stinks, and it’s definitely not because of the trance folks themselves. I’m disillusioned and outraged.”
Back to Jeff Finally, the last HOT party with Goa Gil my friends Uri and Dhea almost got kicked out for bringing a juicer and making fresh fruit juices after they had asked permission to do so.

Tuesday Rumour of a makeup party if you are “on the list”
I heard a rumor that there will be another party thrown by Elly as a makeup for the phantasm party last weekend but you have to be “on the list.” The person was milling around the party on Sunday and said he heard Elly say that he was going to do a makeup party for those who hung around towards the end. Emails I think were being collected. I’m not sending this out to get anyone’s hopes up. I haven’t heard anything else about this. Maybe in a couple of days we’ll get more info. Yoni will probably spin. I have compiled all the reviews in a 10-page pamphlet. They’re all blisteringly negative. Anyway, elly’s email is phantasmusa at hotmail
Background of the original House of Trance and the relation to today
“I am a bit shocked that so many people who knew Eli (yourself most of all) didn’t expect this sad rip-off to happen last weekend. Past upstate disasters and accused minidisc thefts are one thing, but my girlfriend and your former roommate Lisa has had her life and future seriously fucked up by this guy and H.O.T. Maybe I can refresh your memory a little… Anyone who had anything to do with House of Trance in ’98 knows that she was running the store, trying to repair relations with angry record labels (who tended not to get paid by HOT), giving soup out at Tomkins Square Park during the holidays, etc. Just ask Gilles, Jean-Emanuel, or anyone else who they could count at the store back then…they will not tell you Eli. Yet what was Lisa’s thanks from Eli and HOT? Among other things: – Not getting paid for the better part of a year. – Having Eli talk shit about her, trying to convince everyone that she was a terrible employee, including letters to that effect to Caryn and Tomer. – Being talked into signing her name as a guarantor of the store’s credit card machine, even though she was never an officer or even partial owner of the company. As I believe you know, this is the one that has continually come back to haunt her; now she has received a summons and is being sued by the credit card company for HOT’s years of non-payment. All Eli had to do (and actually wrote a promise to do) was take the credit card machine out of Lisa’s name and this could have been avoided. Instead, he left the country, and the store changed their name (twice now apparently), and burned all the old paperwork presumably to try to escape their debts. Lisa even has a sealed letter from HOT admitting that the store owes her thousands of dollars, and that Caryn and Tomer were acting irresponsibly and Eli would not have been liable should he try to remedy the situation and Lisa’s financial future. I guess it was just to much trouble. I won’t even go into all the crap that the Acid Physix crew (who originally started HOT and hence the ugliest element in the NYC trance scene) pulled, except that it involved alot of literal theft, empty promises, and the selfish manipulation of kids who wanted nothing more than to sincerely participate in an inspiring movement. All in all, when it comes to Eli and everything connected to HOT, we’re not just talking bad karma, we’re talking criminal and ethical offenses that would get people killed in some parts of the world. So maybe you could keep some of this in mind the next time you or someone you know is tempted to help promote any future endeavors spawned by Eli or Global Trance Productions, or whatever they’re calling themselves now.”
Last was from John Phantasm, this is from Ely Cc: safetydance, dragontribe, phantasmusa at hotmail ya’ll should read these, it explains a lot. forward this out to anyone who was there. occam’s razor dictates that the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. elly and john’s last two events went without a hitch (aside from two friends who were almost kicked out for having a juicer) basically, it’s the same thing as taking advice from a “friend” who has some unsavory clubowner friends and having a party moved last minute to this unfriendly club run by rednecks who refuse to take the blame – and the club owner dicks everyone – the organizers and the attendees. it looks like it was either make a deal with satan or not have the event at all. at least a lesson is learned by all. “Hey jeff and everybody else. I know you received an explanation letter from John Ford and I’ll like to tell you also my point of view. First of all I Eli-take full responsibility for everything that happened over the last weekend.I was the one that organized this party as Global Trance Production launching Phantasm Records. Phantasm Records and its artists: John Phantasm, Dick Trevor, Dj Junya and all the rest are not the ones to blame, these artists came free to perform and make this party fun and enjoyable. They did not have anything to do with the production (they came a day before the party to the USA and were not part of all this fuck up)If there is anybody to boycott its me as a promoter and my production. Phantasm Records and its artists has been and is still known in the last 10 years as one of the most honest labels and one of the label that always was a joy to people to go to their parties. It will be no fair to any of these artists and this label to be held for blame, as I said before I did all the arrangements for this party and its only me to be blamed. About all the explanation for this shame party I think John Ford told you all the things that was wrong in this event and I wish they didn’t happen but they did. I wish to apologize to anybody that got hurt or disappointed, that definitely was not the meaning from the beginning, the whole idea was to make something that not really happening over here and its to have an outdoor event like I did in the past. I did everything I could to make it better including fighting with however was there. I risked myself in being arrested at list 2 times,i did not make this party from the beginning in order to make money from it, it was known that there would be no money made from the beginning. In fact, I spent my own money on this party with no return. All of the other things and explanations I think you got all the figures and story in John’s letter so there is no point for me to repeat it all again. My wish is only to make sure that there is really nobody to boycott and blame but me. I felt the vibe already in the start of the party and that’s why I tried to make it better including giving the CDs at the party to the people(over 200 Phantasm Records latest cd releases on my expenses, anything I managed to take from the van where they put the things that they took from the people, like water and some other things) I did not know that this shame thing would happen. it was not supposed to be and when I saw it happen I fought with these people and flipped myself. I was going all this weekend between the people and apologizing in my name and in my fuck up. It is really not fair to blame anybody but me including the Home Of Trance that was only trying to make a nice energy for this party and celebrate with the people and definitely not Phantasm Records and its artists that most of them came here to play and have fun and definitely not to make any money. they were playing for no fee at all.there was no intension to scam anybody and as you know this production was not cheap and there is no way to make money with 250 people that are paying for that. I ask you to post this letter to everybody that you know and was in this party. I will do anything I can to make up for these great people that were only supporting to us and wanted to have fun. I thank everybody and am willing to speak to whoever wants to talk to me and like more explanation for this wrong weekend. Thanks again. Eli.
tranceam.org/phantasmfeedback Hopefully this will do it. The 15-page compilation of all feedback and explanations from last weekend includes responses from both organizers and the text from all messages sent to me from attendees. In the interest of fairness, I have left nothing out except some of my attempts at an explanation.
Subject:All Phantasm comments will be only posted on the web I think it’s time to move on regarding all the emails. unless it’s another party I will no longer post anything re: the Phantasm party it’s not being put to bed though. if you want to read what people send me go to web tranceam.org/phantasmusa it gets bigger every day. I’m up to about 18 pages of commentary, from the organizers, a positive review and pages and pages of complaints.
If you went to Phantasm email me to get into the makeup party phantasmusa at hotmail, So people, if you went to the Phantasm event, the organizer is trying to make amends and throw a “Kiss Ass” party… so to get on the list I created to facilitate this process. Your email addresses will go to Ely and maybe John Phantasm so they will know who showed up. If I don’t recognize your email address I will ask you questions to check, or just explain who you are thanks. Say what you will, at least they are trying to make amends. I want to personally ask everyone to let bygones be bygones. Feel free to forward this out to anyone you know who went – and also to email me their addresses so I can manually add them on. DJs – contact them!!! Finally, I have no details on when/where/how much it will be, or if it will be free. Hopefully, it will be free for those who were there, and will not double book another party. I’m just passing on info to try to make everyone happy and be meddlesome. PS I will dress up as Pink from The Wall and have my boys take your ds at the door and I will sell them back to you! “Who let all this riff-raff into the room” 🙂
DISCLAIMER: Trance people do not do drugs, the last sentence was intended as humor. Finally, I must say I was in such a state Saturday morning that for 5 minutes there was around my field of vision a cyborg looking cockpit/menu, and I could alter the appearance of anyone I looked at, like in photoshop. Then when it came time to get back into my body I put it on glovelike backward and could feel my heels in my face then everything was backward, when I looked at my back of my hand I saw my palm, etc etc. of what a morning that was.
From Eli
Hey Jeff. this is Eli, I really need a list of all the people that you know that was in the party, I’m booking a place for the kiss ass party and I really need it fast.I would like to come with a flyer fast so pleas work with me on that. thanks again for all you done for us. Eli
Last chance to get into the Phantasm makeup party I’m tying up this loose end I lost like 3 names in the translation, so if you or your friends from Phantasm party aren’t on here, send me the names by this Friday when I send it is being sent to Ellie, I don’t know when the event will be but probably soon
2020 recollection:
I helped Eli with the build on the site. He had an amazing venue booked. Unfortunately the week before the gig, some people went to view the site uninvited. The owner got a bit scared at the sight of these hippie-looking people and pulled the venue. So poor ole Eli was left with the predicament, do I still go ahead or cancel. He panicked and reached out for anything he could get at that stage. Through someone he knew or didn’t know. This venue in someone’s garden came up and he took it. The people taking food off the punters were the ones who got the venue. At this stage Eli was broke and in debt , these trailer trash people demanded money the first day which Eli didn’t have . He was told to put up or leave . They were complete scum . Eli’s heart was in the right place . But unfortunately, his head wasn’t.
OggMod’s Rant about scenes
Well, since everyone is in a retrospective mood, here goes: I came from a few scenes first, A Rock to Metal METAL METAL, Grunge to Goth, Industrial to Noise, and on the list goes. I always wanted when I was kid music that was, in my personal definition, Post Nuclear holocaust industrial machine out of control misfiring engine computer-generated virus-like NOISE Trance. Now that I have found it, I am very willing and TOTALLY FUCKING SERIOUS when I say “Now that I have found my love, I will do all I can to protect her”. My first trance party was New Years 2000-2001. I am a latecomer I guess, missed the rave scene totally. Although I floated throughout various musical genres, I always needed the rush that Metal delivered as a matter of course. Trance is amazing, and the people are what really blew me away. I was raised around Authority, and as soon as I really got to learn about the scene from first-hand observation, I realized that this is the most peaceful scene around, and I love that aspect most of all-cause I am bored totally of violence, aside from some wacky dance steps. It makes me sad to see scuzzbags sliming up the scene (Gelcaps at Omnitribe, Upstate Fiascos, etc), and I want to be a part of the Real Trance Scene, not the proto commercialized, open for the taking, unfocused and cranky NegaTrance scene as of late. Use these email lists for creating and organizing parties, get-togethers, etc. Scout for Locations, call yer local park police and ask about permits. Practice makes perfect, I am going to do some scouting as soon as I get some gas money, but I am collecting numbers to call and ask questions. Please everyone, don’t let this shit happen again, personally, I am thinking that this was a truly criminal offense and I really believe that someone should A) refund a LOT of money to people, and B) have charges of fraud or whatever scamming is called. Did I not read that Home of Trance was involved???? Are you all sleeping or what?? I would never stand for somebody ripping me off that bad, I CANNOT AFFORD TO!!!!!! I am rather broke in recent weeks, so I count all my change before leaving the store. Let’s see, 200 bucks times 200 is what, 40,000, or is my math off. What does it cost to rent a space for an indoor party? What does it cost to reserve part of some state park-like in New Jersey the past weekend? Frankly, you people are absolutely nuts and Filthy RICH if yer throwing away cash like that!!!! Did you leave a TIP???? I know that not everyone went, but may I ask, did anyone stomp the shit out of the guy taking the cash? No? Right, its cause I did not go, man, I am proud of my attitude problem and my aggressive side, it protects me from obvious scams like that. The cops would have been called there much sooner because I love the Robin Hood tale, and I would love to have broken that crime ring to pieces. Did anyone get their license plates?? I am sorry for all that went, and I ask that we all do what we can to prevent outsiders ripping off the peaceful Digi-Hipi scene that we all love so much, WATER SHOULD BE FREE AND SO SHOULD WE FROM FASCIST VIOLENCE AND TERRORIST CAPITALISTS. Ok, I shut up now.

Um does anyone else feel this way?To: safetydance From: oggmod13 I feel that when we set up parties, that they are in many ways a healing ritual, a sacred and private type of ritual, not to be disrespected or abused? I take my music seriously, and I know others do as well. Main point, I think of music as a religious experience every time it makes me feel all fuzzy n warm. Are not our gatherings sometimes similar to a religious gathering? Not to praise outside things or ideas, but to celebrate the moment, our moments that we worked too hard to create? I love to bring my paints to parties and watch the psychological decompression as people get all covered in tribal colors, Omni tribal that is. We should take ourselves, and our scene more seriously, lets prevent the CapitolTerrorists from hurting our tribe ever again! I say: GOD LIVES IN TRANCE. I feel that when we set up parties, they are in many ways a healing ritual, a sacred and private type of ritual, not to be disrespected or abused? I take my music seriously, and I know others do as well.

News from Alex of Alphatrance, now in Australia
Alex started the Russian scene with max, Vlad, Gosha, et al under the Subtle Chaos and Alphatrance names with bridge parties. he was wrongly – and laughably – accused years ago of theft of a minidisc by Elly, the organizer of last weekend’s phantasm party. he’s a great guy and went to Australia to be a proud father!
Say hello to him at alphatrance at yahoo Hey, Jeff! your old buddy Aleks (Alphatrance) is here to add a line to your daily “news distribution practice” (please forward to all lists): Eli is in many ways a Root of Evil for the Trance people in NYC. I have some painful stories from my past, I’ve learned from experience But YOU don’t have to – just look into his eyes. (So, all of you, round up some $, buy a ticket, and come here for the Outback Eclipse Festival! could say lots of things – but will keep short – it’s f**ng great down here…) aleks (alphatrance) Perth, Australia
Upcoming PSI outdoor party
2 weeks away! Since the next PSI party is being mentioned. . .and since this past weekend seemed to blow so hard. . .You all might want to keep the weekend of the 16th-17th open in August, I just got off the phone with Pat (if you were at Acid Reflux, he spun the sunrise set) and he’s pretty sure the next one will be then. He’s not on this list, but I’ve been sending him and Neil all the positive feedback you guys have been giving and there’s really no better pay off for all that work. He wanted me to thank everyone who helped out (and showed up!) last time, ben he mentioned especially for the lights. If you want to help out on this one, you can email me, Pat or Neil on this. samps. just to put my own two cents (no longer being the voice of PSI 🙂 my favorite party has still been, and always will be the Brooklyn Leonid meteor shower last fall, weekend of burning man decompression and all that jazz. Wylie’s dog never looked so. . .

Prostitution causes curfew at Sheepshead Bay Rest Area
The Sheepshead Bay Rest Area & Beach now has a curfew from 9pm-6am. Read in yesterday’s Daily News, text below. I’m pretty sure this is the place we were at last weekend – how many rest areas are there off the Bely Parkway in Sheepshead Bay? It was such a wonderful place! Still can be used for daylong events but for sure there will be at least one patrol after dark for a while. Thus goes the only spot that had never been busted. So I am compiling a database of good spots and will share them with psytrance organizers such as Omnitribe, PSI, Wylie, and the DMT. This should have been done a long time ago. If anyone is interested in this directory email me OFFLINE and it would help if you have locations to share. Oh yeah – the Omnitribe party at the rest area was amazing – and dry! Best location ever! Too bad it’s the last nocturnal emission for trance or anything else at that spot.
Crackdown at rest stop Crime cited in Plum Beach night closure
BY ELIZABETH HAYS DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
State Sen. Carl Kruger is behind overnight closure that begins today at Plum Beach rest stop. In an effort to crack down on an alleged prostitution hot spot in Sheepshead Bay, a rest stop and beach off the Belt Parkway will be closed overnight beginning today. Officials from the city Parks Department and the National Park Service, which share joint jurisdiction at the stop, said the move was made after community groups and elected officials complained of increased prostitution at the Plum Beach rest area, between Knapp St. and Flatbush Ave. Outraged community advocates said that at night, after beachgoers and other rest stop users left for the day, cars flocked to the rest area parking lot, which they say had become a prostitution zone.”From dusk to dawn this had become a no-man’s land,” said state Sen. Carl Kruger (D-Sheepshead Bay) yesterday, gesturing to the rest stop’s small parking lot and beach area, which offers a spectacular view of the Rockaway Inlet. “We want to create a safe, decent place for our community.” In June, a 55-year-old Starrett City man was found dead next to his car on the Belt Parkway, east of the rest area. Cops said the man was knifed in a dispute while visiting the area.” It moved from the proverbial lovers’ lane to a really bad, nasty scene,” said Kruger, adding that the remote spot has long been a favorite with couples. “The sense was the only way we’re going to reclaim this area is with a curfew. So we’re closing the place down.”Park officials said that beginning tonight, the rest stop’s parking lot and beach area will be closed daily from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Previously, the rest area was open around the clock. In preparation for the new hours, park workers installed new signs and movable barricades yesterday at the rest stop entrance off the Belt Parkway.” It really is our Goal to make this a better park area,” said Brian Feeney, a spokesman for the National Park Service, which runs the Gateway National Recreation Area, including Plum Beach. Federal Park Police and New York City cops will step up patrols of the area to enforce the closing, officials said, and violators will be issued summonses. Plum Beach regulars cheered the crackdown, saying it will help clean up the garbage-strewn area and encourage more families to enjoy the often-overlooked beach.” I’m very happy,” said Mohamed Moharam, 52, a merchant who has operated a concession truck at the rest area for almost a decade. Moharam said that the alleged nighttime exploits in the parking lot left the area dirty and off-putting for daytime beachgoers.”I think it’s a very good idea,” he said. /boroughs/story/9187p-8642c.html

Beautiful PSI review – and the Murphy’s Law aftermath
Greece was canceled, the CHP stomped on the Fusion festival in northern California. We were fortunate to have Pat and Neil and company organize the second Pine Barrens open air. The party was great, awesome DJs, beautiful weather and scenery. Iced chai, blueberries, gummy worms, you name it, the Philadelphia Shamanista Initiative took care of us! Lost: skull in a test tube. It was full of Ketamine and my girlfriend freaked out when she saw it and threw it over her shoulder into the weeds.
I thought we got lucky, but Lady Luck proved to be hooker and we ran out of cash. After the party we got stuck for 6 hours – flies were everywhere in Mike Donahue’s van, and fortunately, some locals pulled us out. Ten of us went in two cars to the beach in Seaside Heights, where I fell asleep. When I awoke we were surrounded by beach cops. It seems that Jonathan was running around naked talking to a Christian youth group that had come in on a bus. As I stood up, and put my foot over the tiny join on the ground. The police arrested Jonathan, found some things, and went through Jacob’s bag against his wishes and found some other things, so they got Jacob too. They let the rest of us go. Jonathan’s car is still at the beach, I have Jacob’s other bag and radio. If anyone has contact info for Jonathan Payer or Jacob AKA Rick please let us know. We have no money for bail and were quite guilty ourselves so we had to leave them. It’s possible that Jacob may be facing serious charges.

How Goa- differs from Psy- GOA stays crunchy in milk, looks great in spandex, and can still have fluffy hair after a blazing night of acid psychosis. Psy-trance on the other hand, has pointy teeth, eats small children for breakfast, prefers to sleep in the dirt and keeps bottles of liquid stored in its dreadlocks for quick refueling. Brazillian Party in Queens
The Brazilians threw a party in Queens Friday but my car broke down ..so I wasn’t around Friday night to post it, I was being a homeless hitchhiker on the NJ turnpike. Lesson 1, rental car agencies do not always leave you with enough gas to get to your destination even if it’s 2 hours away Lesson 2 don’t ever leave your car on the turnpike. Mucho props to Allen and crew for keeping variety as the spice of life!
Disco Biscuits Review
by the mad trance warrior
I normally don’t post reviews but this one is a doozy. After I read this I have to ask, What am I doing wrong? I just came back from Camp Bisco this weekend. I got to meet my maker Friday night it was the one best experience with my Love. the largest I have ever … easily fucked over 100 times. it burned out my mouth. right through my tongue, the hole in my tongue gave way to flames which scorched my mind. I took off right before the disco biscuits came on, although I never really left the first two rows of the stage. one of my friends never said hello (until I did later) to me because she thought I was a bright beam of light. there was a lot of weird (like evil vibes going around that place)((lots of free baseballin’, and general weird Chicago freaks)) at one point I was looking at some really nice glass from Ithaca at the vendors area (for about 3 hours) and I turned around and I imagined little Mexican dwarf cavemen running around with clubs bashing peoples heads in. others got smashed in by rocks. my brain always lets me know when I’ve had too much by showing me what I’ve done. I also lost my favorite black shrowd on Friday night, which im very upset about. but other than those two minor setbacks early on I was more than fine 😉 I remember (very little from like 4 hours) holding my fingers in front of my eyes and touching each one to my thumb over and over creating a wave-like pattern in my vision. pinky to fourfinger then start over at pinky. [i definitely freaked out some squares] I remember one song from second set, voices insane. I told the bass player later that I heard the voices. my best guestimate for Friday is around 130… it was sooooo nice… I didnt want to leave I eventually did that space place after about 13 hours to about 75 more which didnt get me there, but that’s okay. everything I took was given to me. sat. night four different people came up to me and gave to me (3 of which I didn’t know)…

DREAMCATCHER “JACOB PARTY”
First DJ Set: Juggernaut (Vince)
Jacob and Jonathan are out of jail! But Jacob was unjustly searched and jailed. He was at the wrong place and the wrong time and now faces legal fees. (He’s becoming a celebrity!!) So the Brazilians and a Bali and some Russians are doing a benefit this Saturday at a venue in Queens. It’s a wonderful cliche/cause, “let’s put on a show!” See you there! Remember do NOT smoke pot in the venue, do it around the corner or something. Ditto for salvia!!
Dreamcatcher will be doing a party at 3550, 31st Astoria queens. This Saturday we will be asking for donations to help our friend Jacob, suggested $10, but if you don’t have money but a lot of good energy come anyway. Thanks(gaialau-Dreamcatcher) direction: take “n” train to 36 av. Station, queens its less than a block from there. “Less than 15min from Manhattan”
DJ juggernaut (irland/Dreamcatcher) -10:00-12:00pm
vitalik (Omnitribe-NYC) -12:00- 1:30am
DJ influx (Dreamcatcher/brazil) -1:30- 3:30am

There is a gradual narrowing on noncommercial indoor trance events in greater NYC. This is a bad sign for the scene, which is staying strictly organic these days, if you know what I mean. And staying organic means staying outside or not at all. And outside events means that we have to be careful as to who gets the info. If you’re camping somewhere in a tent or on the beach you don’t want to have to worry about someone stealing your bags or stuff… So if you want to join Safetydance find me (Jeff) at one of the events below and identify yourself and I’ll do a full cavity search. The net result is, you have to know others in the scene in order to get to the best events, and in many cases the only events. The days of someone rolling into town and stopping by Home of Trance to get the weekend’s flyer are no longer here – for now. And ditto for getting weekly events or frequent commercial trance parties on brainmachines. This will change someday, but I can no longer pine for that day. There comes a point when you have to sink or swim, and if it’s water you’re in, without swimming you’ll drown, and I didn’t want to drown, so I got a job. I wanted to survive to live another day at a rocking warehouse full of tripped out fluoro tight wearing GOA HEADS.

Burning Man: The Floating World
September 2002
Welcome back deficit, welcome back corporate gluttony, but it will only last for a time before we drive a final stake into the heart of it, well at least for this generation. Dreamcatcher’s Jacob benefit went well. Great party.
People are filtering back from Greece & Burning Man.
Hot international babe report: Sophie from Sweden may be back this Spring; Orit from Israel is trying to make it back to NYC.

RAVE ACT PROTEST PARTY!
If you go to outlaw parties, do drugs at parties, get sick of bailing me out of jail, and/or you’re free tomorrow, get your ass down to Foley Square for this MOST IMPORTANT of political events, and ignore that they are not playing psytrance. If this legislation passes the vibrant underground culture in NY and elsewhere will be seriously compromised. Then we’ll be just like England and France!
What to wear, what to wear To: ben at tvtrecords people got arrested at the economic summit for wearing masks. really. so no go, esp. as I will probably be “holding” something quite illegal and volatile and combustible, i.e. my crazy gf… so I myself will dress up for a change 🙂 and wear elf ears, a garland of leaves, face paint, and carry a drum, and wear a t-shirt that says “I do acid and I vote” If my boss recognizes me then I deserve to be terminated! For those not inclined to put on face paint might I suggest sunglasses. I haven’t done E in at least a year – tomorrow just may be the perfect time to do it!!
Why start a fire under the NYPD’s collective fat ass? I might add, the RAVE protest party is in this in the same Precinct as the cops who stole $15K worth of electronics. SO we can’t let them off easy. Look for one wearing a real Tag Hauer watch. Those bastards took the d’s Mackeys, my pioneer CDJs, brainmachines, video games, etc etc Those fucks thought they had me with 800 Pez, well I guess they were wrong. Now I’m gonna get them back by working hard at my job, making mad money, and throwing a wrench in their plans to Disneyfy Manhattan. So remember, if you’re not going to go wreck house for myself, think of me when you go. Or better yet, think of stolen renegade sound systems that are now being used to amplify off duty cops listening to Huey Lewis CDs in their back yard barbecues in Long Island. This past year they just robbed me – next year they may rob you. You may be forced to resort to Home Listening of psytrance. Don’t let it happen. Free pez for all!

Omnitribe was rocking! We stayed through Sunday night. It was beyond a party… it was a community of several hundred with cottages, swimming pool, water hoses, complete insanity. My favorites were the drum circle, and the art by Chay the Balinese tribesman. Thanks to all who made it happen!
I wrote this on Sunday when I got home for a different list, but I wanted to share with you too. the party:: was one of the best outdoor parties I’ve been to. it went all night Friday all day sat 4am Sunday. I danced the whole time I was there an interesting aside; lenoid said that he got worried about me, when he didnt see me on the dancefloor, thanks lenoid 🙂 I think the party went longer but I needed to take a rest before the sun came up. I’ve heard people complain about the NYC scene, on the grounds that the people aren’t that friendly or something, but I met some of the most kind souls this weekend, we were on a whole other level entirely, not speaking to each other and communicating with our minds. glorious. I’ve never felt a more overpowering sense of love, companionship, and sense of belonging. the vibe was amazing… serine, peaceful, with white chain lightning of pure energy straight from over 150 passionate hearts beating in unison. we were all one pulsating beam of light. everything added up at this party (people/vibe, music, decor, and venue to make a SLAmmin’ trance party… they had a swimming pool, woods, basketball court, soccer balls and cabins, they also had various bonfires around, and on Sat. Omnitribe had a huge trance bbq with corn on the cob, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, salad. I had a trancekabob 🙂 there really wasn’t a charge for the party they were suggesting that people donate $25… I did make one of my dreams come true, b – ing that I got to fall asleep right next to a huge subwoofer, that completely vibrated my entire existence… it was soooooo nice. the only thing that I can think of that would top that is making love on top of one of those speakers. sat. night was interesting to say the least I indulged in some really nice kittens… and danced myself right out of the large hole I stepped in… it was so nice… I could see anything; it looked like I wasn’t wearing my glasses except I was. everything was blurred and faded to black except the blacklights. I felt my body moving in new and interesting ways, I freed my mind to move my body within abnormal parameters of dance… like I would step one way and move in the opposite direction; I was running circles around the basketball court and occasionally pulling my head out of my ass to jump and catch rim (on the basketball hoop 😉 I also had my very first Heineken that tasted good, sat. night which is weird cause I hate Heineken! I ended up going to the store later that night to buy more alcohol (i don’t normally drink)! I just had sooo much fun, I wish I could have shared the experience with you. I couldn’t convince anyone to come with me, but thankfully all the familiars (NYC tribe) were there and so was Gabriel and lenoid (special treat!!). the weather was gorgeous too, really warm, ideal swimming temperatures. I found an old water heater out in the woods and proceeded to chuck rocks at it until my friend jeff (the brainmachines guy (www.brainmachines ) came out and explained to me just how lucky I was. he brought me back out of the woods and back into the party… I don’t think I’ve had soo much fun dancing with my friends from ny… we all just got down crazy Israeli stompin’ styles.. lots of big smiles and energy threw the roof… I don’t know everyone’s names, but the of the ones I do know… Jamin vs. Gavin was sick sick sick!, I really liked influx (brazil) who played a lot of heavy metal/trance crossovers.. there reall wasn’t ever a dull moment, sat. from morning to like afternoon was full-on, then afternoon til after bbq was chillout, and then after the tranckabob’s were done, the trance came back on, with more of a dark twisted sound, mixing was overall smooth, I didn’t hear any trainwrecks… and late-night Sat. was minimal / staticy / crunchy moles (less kickdrum and more static) which was really nice after getting mental beat up for god knows how many hours. still smiling 🙂

Trippin’ “Isrealis” Rosh Hashanah
The timing is perfect, two days before 9/11 (Second only to Israeli New Year) at Escuelita 301 West 39th (corner of 8th) NYC The Hebrew on the flyer roughly corresponds to “The most tripped out Israeli DJs in New York playing in a beautiful tripped out environment)

Why Trancers should not be scared of the wartime U.S. Government
I’m sitting here in my new office in the building where in the Superman movies Christopher Reeves as Clark Kent worked at the Daily Planet (the one with the huge moving globe in the lobby) and I saw from my window the motorcade drive by, possibly the car with GW. In my college days would have maybe thought of using that opportunity as a makeshift Book Depository Dallas style, but with a water balloon that said Enron. But no, I have mellowed somewhat with age and now am reassured that we can no longer take any bull from extremists that would deprive our civil liberties. It’s days like this that remind me of why I still stick it out here, far from family and roots. It’s still a great place to live! The orange meme of capitalism hitting the red war god meme… hopefully fundamentalism can be engaged, contained, and a peace brought in the Middle East without Armageddon. Granted, we (and the Brits) set up Israel for strife by stacking the deck with Arab transplants so as to keep the Jews in perpetual strife, but from where I sit I am not paranoid about our civil liberties taken away. If we in psytrance represent an edge to the underground, and if I may say that I was until last year part of the edge of that edge, and even after 9/11 I was in a position to be completely fucked by the System, and they decided not to pursue my case, even with a mountain of evidence (ds, flyers, brainmachines, props, paraphernalia, an open book really) that I was indeed an instigator of full-throttled psychedelicism, I think I am a test case that The Man is not out to get us. So when we hear that there is some plan for the Feds to wrap themselves in the flag and use it as an excuse to go after the crusties, think of me, a sitting duck, at one time the Crustiest of the Crusties, a media-driven egomaniac destined to meet my maker head-on, and what did they do? They Let Me Go. There’s been a recent spate of busts within the scene but they are all every one of them asked for, Drive safe, make sure your tail lights are in order, fasten your seat belt, don’t strip in public, don’t give them an excuse to juice up their afternoon with a collar of an unwashed malcontent, and I think you’ll be fine. The fun is in the camouflage, the veils, and navigating our fire in the fireworks factory that is USA, 2002. Of course, Lisa asks Would you trade a walk-on part in the war for a lead in a golden cage? I say, that’s called subtlety and complexity… fight it and face prison or institutionalization. Deal with it and thrive and live to spread the good word. If Ben Franklin were alive and young today, he would definitely be at Burning Man with his kite and key, and would maybe even love Infected Mushroom (but probably complain that our parties are sexless endeavors), notwithstanding the fact that Flying Rhino loving Price William is I believe a direct descendent of King George.
September 12 Thursday
was anyone else a little irked that the phantasm party was a huge scam?? they lost their venue, yet still charged $120 at the door, for a party they spent maybe 7g on… 300 tickets x 120 Tsunami. I still had a good time, cause that’s what we do, but I was really hoping that I wouldn’t have to spend the majority of that good time sitting in my car till I ran out of gas. I was a little confused as to whose party this actually was because yoni (history of my ass) played his set get this:: twice in the same weekend plus additional slots of yes the same tracks. I think I’ve heard yoni play 8 times in the last week, that’s 8 more times than I would like.nuns of the revolution didn’t show either… before space cat came on and reminded us all what REAL trance is or was, I could have sworn I was at a Tsunami party. all the pieces were there:: yoni was playing at every opportunity (I’m so sick of seeing him up there, I could vomit), and after he was done Junior played his infected mushroom remix set (both nights). ((there was a little joke, when the state police shut the party down:: yoni is the promoter of this party, lock him up!! he’s been VERY bad!)) thankfully there ARE people out there that are ready to fuck the bullshit and throw their own events. the only thing that saved the music was space cat’s set + DJ set. which was really really good, only because it was juxed next to mediocre music. I was only too happy to see him set up his G4… I have so many really fond memories of seeing him with deedrah, and space tribe (oct.27 2001)i know where my party is… it’s in Greece (samathakri).. I just cant get there 🙁 45 live acts + 60 DJs over 4 days mindgasm. 🙂

Because the mission and purpose of the Four Quarters InterFaith Sanctuary is to support all forms of spirituality that honor the natural world and cosmos, we have found a home that we are sure will become the future reference point for the Trance Dance Experience. Allen from Gaian Mind has formally given permission to fwd this out – which at the end includes the info on the big Pennsylvania trance weekend. Thi s location is very higher energy I hear and the chillout is not to be missed. G A I A N M I N D Summer Festival Join us, as we end the summer with three days and two nights of Transcendental Dance in a magikal, sylvan setting our dancefloor, the mystifying Circle of Standing Stones. Dance all night guided by world-class DJs spinning cutting-edge Psychedelic Trance, or sit by the fire at the creekside Chill-Out area, then spend a relaxing afternoon swimming in the cool and refreshing waters of Hemlock Hole…
Make no mistake I will be at Gaian Mind that weekend, which promises to be incredible… and may go to Tsunami to get “Infected” “live” at “Vilo” on the way there (it IS on the way from my house)
did anybody go to Gaian Mind? I honestly lacked the funds to go and could not get a comp. (people who worked there even paid; my guess is the only comps were DJs) I saw a lot of people at Tsunami, many who seemed to be the types that would eschew Tsunami at shelter, so my guess is light to moderate turnout, with a lot of non-typical people in attendance from PA, NJ, DE, etc.
What a party it was. In everything that Phantasm was wrong, these guys did it right. Simply an amazing location. In a real forest, removed from any signs of civilization.
The people who owned the place were absolutely magical. They are like a one big community of hippies. The people who organized the party knew exactly how psychedelic outdoor should be organized.
Great music, great vibe, great party. Free tea, coffee, showers, fantastic chill out ( it was almost like a chill-out city). On a main dancefloor, the music started out at about 11 p.m. (on Sat.) and was pumping untill 10 a.m. next day. Mad props to the Philadelphia scene and everyone else who came there. If anything made up for Phantasm faults it was Gaian Mind. At the end the guy who supposedly was in charge of the place (check it out, he is a monk),
came on a main dance floor to thank us all for coming, mentioning that we were really great in a way that we behaved toward the location and the people, and invited our jolly bunch back next year. Then we all held hands in one big circle and thanked the Land for having us.
It was by far the best party I have ever attended. Viva Gaian Mind !!!
Thank you Gaian Mind! This party was an absolute blast. I can finally let the bitter taste of Phantasm out of my mouth. There’s still hope for real outdoor psytrance on the East Coast. Gaian Mind’s excellent organization and the friendly EarthReligion hippies that run this perfectly secluded compound set the stage for Mark Allen and Co.’s new creative sounds and deep hypnotic beats. Can’t wait till next year, and let’s hope the NY turnout is better.
September 13 Friday
Tsunami at Shelter
Infected Mushroom Live, Miraculix (Sweden), Yoni
it was our punishment for not going to Gaian Mind
hot hot hot – did for the 1st time in a year – big mistake – then joey gave me a dippy of piecey p and doing k’s evil cousin, it made me feel like I died, slipped off the raft of life into the sea of coincidence
I thought the party was pretty slammin’… IM definitely put on their live performance… had to question that from the last IM Tsunami show (July 3? where IM was advertised to play live, but only played DJ sets) anyways it was worth the 6-hour drive. lots of heavy metal tracks, I also liked Miraculix’s DJ set… a very FULL-on… oh yeah and the party was good too 😉 I gotta say this. I wasn’t able to go to the Gaian Mind Festival which bummed me out but I’ll live. However, I was able to go to see Infected Mushroom at Shelter on Friday and it was so unbearably hot on the dance floor I ended up sitting on the roof instead for most of the night. Not the headspace I was “expecting” that’s for sure. Looking forward to Omni Tribe’s Aural Beats party in September where they say they’re having two dance floors: indoor AND outdoor. That’s my vent. Peace.
September 14 Saturday
Space Ghost Saturday
basically, everyone should go to Gaian Mind if they have the dough, it will be well spent, yadda yadda yadda. but if you’re stuck in new york, here is an oyster thrown to the pigs by a trance warrior’s post from another list, shamelessly swiped, sorry johnny, names deleted to protect the GUILTY. ”
i originally wasn’t going to go, but I learned that this sat. at the TV and radio museum there’s a 30 episode spaceghost coast to coast marathon from 1pm – 4pm… I couldn’t resist… trance party spaceghost coast to coast!! how cool will that be to go to see infected play live, then take a pocket of space monkeys over to see TAD GHOSTAL zap zorak with his spank ray??!!??… pretty cool if you ask B. so as long as I’m in the city I might as well go see infected play live… (plus the infected mushroom live/vibrasphere show from last jan, was one of the BEST musical / dance trance parties ive ever been to… (with apologies for lame headedness)

GOAGIL
From: atagino at cs Located in a beautiful lush forest somewhere outside of Portland, Oregon, a 24 hour psychedelic trance dance under the harvest moon on Autumn Equinox. Featuring Goa Gil. Gil grew up in the middle of the San Francisco psychedelic music scene of the sixties. In 1969 he left for India where he began intense Yogic practices and became an initiated Sadhu. Gil helped give birth to the psychedelic trance movement in Goa, India in the early ’80s and continues to distribute this energy to dancers across the world today. We welcome him back to the NW.”Since the beginning of time, humankind has used music and dance to commune with the Spirit of Nature and the Spirit of the Universe… We are trying to use Trance Music and the Trance Dance Experience to set off a chain reaction in Consciousness… Through the Trance Dance Experience hopefully, people will become more sensitive and aware of themselves, their surroundings, the crossroads of humanity, and the needs of the planet… With this Awarenesscomes Understanding and Compassion. Lisa was complaining that there’s not enough Gaia energy at parties, that more women would come if there was more “love” in the music, and it was less dominated by males, with more female DJs, flowers, group hugs, etc etc I for one think that you have to pay your dues, you can’t just show up and expect Opportunity to give you a back rub. Vote in the brainmachines poll where we ask, Is there not enough “female energy” in male-dominated NYC psytrance parties?
September 24 Tuesday
IMPORTANT – Tweak is the rat on VH1. He sold out Synthetic Sadhus on VH-1.
There was a recent VH1 special called “Addicted to Club Drugs” It showed Jesse, AKA Tweak, who was NiMf006 on a watchdog list for rave thugs. He is no longer a member.
He was the little rave kid who had his ass beaten by BTS guys because he was an E dealer, and we let him vent and complain. And give info on various local area thugs. He was friends with that Bunny woman. He unsubbed some time back.
He was a raver kid. The low life kind of e dealer that populated raves and smokes angel dust. He maybe came to 2 or 3 trance events in his life.
VH1 told Synthetic that they heard that SS was the most highly regarded trance group in NYC. So they came and filmed at a recent SS party. Tweak was part of the film crew, I saw him and said hey Tweak, congrats you got a job! He smiled and said, yeahh…! Then
they followed Tweak around, showed him doing K in front of a Synthetic Sadhus banner. Then they showed him going through rehab.
Judas. He could bring down the whole trance scene.
This list is the second that I’m “outing” him on, if anyone here has anything more to add to this email, do it, and then it will go out on
brainmachines and safetydance.
Jason: I REMEMBER THAT CRACKED OUT LITTLE SHIT NOW HE CAME ON THE FRYING PAN PARTY SPENT THE NIGHT BUGGING ME FOR NACOTICA WHILE I WAS PLYING – Jason
I never complained when you turned up with crystals caked to your nostrils and fluoro paint running down your face.
Machinelf: The only parties with lots of ravers is the
synthetic parties – ~20%
Tsunami has mostly Israelis (infected ones) ~15%
all the others have mostly trance family, and 10% ravers at the MOST. and
not often not American ones, but eastern European ones.
this number goes down the further underground you get.
considering there is ~1500 trance people who never go to raves, and there are
at least 25,000 rave kids in the greater NY area who generally don’t even
know about trance parties, that’s all pretty striking. our parties draw the rave kids all the party promoters in New York are guilty of this
Alex S: I promote all kinds of parties from trance to house parties, live shows and I have been associated with raves in the past. I will tell you this I met that tweak kid at one of the Countdown parties in Staten Island.
We came over on the Ferry together he was nodding off cuz he took some H before waiting for the ferry. So here was some drugged-out raver trying to eat pizza that he bought at the SI Ferry at 1am and me. I was hauling 2,000 Paul Oakenfold sampler cassettes and a box of Lotus magazines.
We boarded the ferry he disappeared. When it came time to get off the ferry he helped me carry the magazines down the stairs to the train, and from the train to the venue, I was amazed the kid could stand let alone carry something -but hey at least I gave him something to read.
The party was filled with kids on drugs. They came from Staten Island, Connecticut and all the places I normally wouldn’t be caught dead. It sucked. It sucked. It sucked.
Tweak and I reunited later outside. I was promoting inside for some time but the music drove me crazy, I think it was The Dever, preferring the fresh air (or whatever they call it in SI) to the dip induced nightmare inside… I even saw one young man burn his eyebrows off after lighting a fresh dip.
So Tweak comes up to me and begins to tell me about how the BTS robbed him and beat him up, and now he has only a little bit of weed left and he knows this girl inside who will hook him up but he’s afraid .yada yada yada then out come the BTS.
This kid was standing behind me, using me as a shield as he cowered. BTS they always leave me alone, I always figure there like bounces that way if your there to work your not a problem… besides I wouldn’t go down without a wicked fight.
They harassed him for a while then went to the parking lot to break into someone’s car or something. When they left I asked him why he came to raves if he was always going to end up beaten up or afraid to listen to the music he replied
“it’s a good time”
There was a time when Rave and Underground were united, now it’s an excuse for 2bit promoters and shady dealers to get we in some ignorant 16 year old. Despite all this I will still be going to Boo.
Machinelf: one person all fucked up in front of a camera talking about an unnamed “scene” is one thing.. it’s another thing entirely to do that standing in front of a logo. I know this isn’t an argument, but it doesn’t take someone with a degree in advertising – which I have 🙂 – to understand the difference. If Tweak didn’t know what he was doing, then why did VH1 also film him going to rehab? It’s not like he staked them out. …and it’s another thing entirely to mention TRANCE. The meaning of the word “TRANCE” right now is being associated with “RAVE” When cops have encountered TRANCE they have traditionally let us go. When they encounter RAVE they traditionally throw down the gauntlet. Unfair? Maybe. But it’s still a distinction that has enabled a scene to flourish even in the absence of psychoactives.

Last-minute plug Body Temple is clean beautiful space great people open bar 10-11 Influx, Vitalik, Shai it really will go on all night throughout the morning and most importantly, you can’t miss Elfvis he really will be there I gotta go!
For those at the Body Temple around midnight, I was imitating Elvis towards the later years, and I think I got a little too much into character. So much for method acting.
party was good … full-on stage had nice sound system inside but I didn’t spend any time there outdoors was the prog stage … sound could have been louder, in the quieter moments there was crosstalk with the full-on, also the floor was gravelly and not very good but digable missed part of sangeet set but what I heard was nice antix rocked!!! live set – wooo hooo, fuckin ace, groovy minimal proggy tunes … (remember seeing barton play at moksha this summer which was nice also) … we are the mammoth hunters followed by a DJ set of tribal techy grooves … lots of nice people, lots of weirdo/lurkers/clubbers … the usual
Antix party was cool, neutron I agree, outside was a little too soft of a sound… if it’s a non-full on sound such as Antix’s music, it’s very important that it be loud enough so u can feel the bass… but still very groovy and very nice. I DJ’ed in the full-on room along with DJ mike since I now replace Lior rasta… we played from 1:30 to 3 and warmed up the crowd for Uri and later Boris, who both played killer sets… let me say that I was really impressed by the Brazillian influx! this guy rocked the house. he came on at around 6 something and too bad some people left but the hardcore trancers stayed and enjoyed his menacing set! I went outside to check out the sunrise but again was disappointed that no energy was out there and people weren’t really moving there,…. by the way, this party had the nicest caring and one of the better-organized events I’ve been to here… props to Omnitribe and see you all at the next party where mike and I are gonna attempt to break your ankles again!

State of the Safetydance
Aside from Omnitribe and Unknown Shrooms, absolutely nothing of interest in NYC has happened recently, nor will anything of interest happen until we have more outdoor free parties. Wiley is out of the party business, Omnitribe is focusing on legal venues, Subtlechaos has no system, and Alphatrance is no longer in commission. Something must be done. The economy ain’t getting no better, and I miss seeing all the po’ people. They’re usually more interesting. I’m one of them, but I get in free for promotional activity. As for the DMT and the outdoor spirit trances, most of you remember last year’s arrest and forfeiture of all my possessions that enabled the NYPD to take the DMT sound system. (And the generator was stolen a month later). I recently got my income revenue flow late the crack of autumn, and I had debts/bills, so I’m saving my strength for next spring. It’s too late in the season to start from scratch (wow, just when I wrote that, someone in the next office said that on the phone) but next year looks good. There are plenty of places around the city. Now is the time to hoard nuts and bury them where I can find them in March. Stay tuned to Safetydance so you’ll know when/where they are… and if you’d like to have a voice in who DJs/VJs, join the DMT. As for the poll for more underground techno on the list, so far it’s even, 7 yes and 7 no. Your vote can sway the outcome: Yes, more techno for now if there are no psytrance events 1 7.14% Yes, techno even when there are more psytrance events in the future 6 42.86% No, keep it just psytrance 4 28.57% No, I get that info elsewhere 3 21.43%

Phantasm Makeup
cc: phantasmmakeup, Forward this out to all trance lists, please. Save the Date – There will be a major party with John Phantasm, Green Chris, Dick Trevor, and others on Saturday September 20th called Kick-Ass Kiss Ass Feed Your Head 2. Details to come. Although it is in a club and not outside, there will also be an after-hours I hear and encourage everyone to go and to refrain from booking a commercial event the same night. Stau tuned to brainmachines if you didn’t go to the original party 3 weeks ago and to phantasmmakeup if you did. Here’s the most recent from Elly & John: Hey Jeff. thanks for collecting this list. this is a proof for the upcoming party, the flyer will be out in the next few days. Jeff, I’m trying to do the right thing, in the last party I worked and took all the stress on me for NOTHING, in fact, I put some of my own money. Ignore the fact that this ugly food thing happened it still was a good party that really nobody ever tried to do ever here.I took on myself the responsibility for the wrong things that happened and also still I think that no promoter will ever do such a thing and put all this money for a free party(this is a regular budget production that you and I know how much it cost)to make it up and do the right thing for the supporters. I really don’t have money in my life like I’m sure some people think I have, and with this next party, I will need to work for 6 months to cover all this loss that I took on myself. to make it short, I hope that anybody that will get free for that party was at the last party and deserve that. I will appreciate any help from everybody to promote this party and make it nice and happy. thanks again for all of you people for understanding and supporting. Eli and John phantasm and the rest of the family. phantasmusa at hotmail (post it to all)

Ttokkyo Busted in Mexico
(Old news for many. I paid $2.50 for this article, you’re welcome. Ttokkyo also made and sold steroids – the ultimate gray market enterprise)
7 Held, drugs Seized; Raids target a ring importing Ketamine, also known as Special K, from Mexico into the U.S. The Los Angeles Times; Los Angeles, Calif.; Oct 3, 2002; JESSICA GARRISON;
The federal indictment announced this week charges that Jorge Chevreuil Bravo, owner of Granero de Oro, and Dr. Francisco Molino, head of Ttokkyo, used an Internet Web site to sell Ketamine to distributors across the United States. Neither man was authorized to export pharmaceuticals, but authorities said their network was believed to be responsible for 70% to 80% of the drug used illegally in the United States. Three of the 10 indicted remain at large. The indictment charges the 10 with participating in a conspiracy to import and distribute K, conspiracy to launder money, and possession of Ketamine with intent to distribute. Bravo also is charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. Full Text: (Copyright The Times Mirror Company; Los Angeles Times 2002. All rights reserved.) A cross-border ring that produced and distributed massive amounts of the drug Ketamine, known on the rave circuit as K, has been broken up and its leaders arrested, officials said Wednesday. After a two-year investigation and raids in the United States and Mexico, authorities arrested seven people and made some of the largest seizures ever of Ketamine. The drug, an animal tranquilizer that became popular among people for its hallucinatory effects, is also known as vitamin K, Super Ketamine, and Kit Kat. Ketamine also has been used as a date-rape drug. The investigation began in Simi Valley after police arrested a suspect on suspicion of selling the drug in a health club. From there, investigators picked up a trail that led to a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm in Morelos, Mexico, called Laboratorios Ttokkyo and a Tijuana-based veterinary business called Granero de Oro, authorities said. Neither man was authorized to export pharmaceuticals, but authorities said their network was believed to be responsible for 70% to 80% of the drug used illegally in the United States. Authorities executed search warrants in New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Boston, and San Diego. In Kansas, they seized 23,000 vials of the d. Authorities in Mexico seized another 200,000 vials last week. The d, which was declared a controlled substance by the U.S. government in 1999, is typically sold on the street in 10-millimeter vials for between $50 and $100 a vial, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Timothy Coughlin. In Southern California, authorities seized more than $500,000 in cash. Bravo and Molino were arrested in Panama and transported to Miami in September. They will eventually be moved to San Diego, Coughlin said. Three of the 10 indicted remain at large. If anyone is interested in giving feedback or suggestions for this night please send emails to ecofunkological I’m currently looking for someone who has access to a video projector that they would be willing to share for the night. Please contact me if you have one available.Look forward to seeing you! I went to the yoga place in central New Jersey that was advertised on safetydance. It was very weird and funny. I showed up with two friends, the rest of the people there were yoga people (advanced yoga people from the stuff they were doing half the time). The DJ was actually quite good and the place is nice and cozy…if anyone lives in the area, I’d recommend going next time they do this (in a month). Its kinda fun to be dancing about and looking at people in bizarre yoga positions :)Mike

As seen on Vh2
we arrived around 2am … lots of people were there already. the outdoor chillout – it sucked!!! I mean the music they played was fine, but there was very little space and most of it was taken up by the line for the portable bathrooms!!! goes to show you how far reality is from what the flyer says sometimes. also, the sound system – weak. you could have a conversation near the speakers without too much trouble. I mean, it’s not like we don’t pay enough money, this is disappointing.
with these caveats in mind, Oforia played a nice live set and then Ofer did a super short DJ set (!?). then came Vibrasphere – YESSS!!! excellent, relentless nordic minimalism. Asi, you’re right, the sound was very clean and wonderful breaks (only one of the guys was there for some reason). finally, an American guy played (it was Kalyx I think) and I must say I was very surprised. it was amazing!!! probably the best set of the night for me, groovy proggy stuff … he ROCKED! I was exhausted by then but couldn’t help dancing like a maniac throughout his set. cheers to that guy!!!
all in all a nice party. large NYC club gig, so vibe is a bit weird … but ok. the music was great for sure and that’s enough.
overall, the party was great, high energy and the vibes were awesome, not weird at all. Most people I talked to said that they felt really great vibes from this crowd especially when people started passing that huge orb, bubble thing, above the crowd… sure there were some technical difficulties with the sound system at the beginning of the night, I think but by the end, everyone forgot all about it. The music was great and the outdoor chillout was not so bad. The area sectioned off for the outdoor chillout was much smaller because of the RAIN! Kalyx played one awesome set!
Not everything is perfect and who cares about the portable bathrooms as long as you have good music and a place to party with some of the most amazing diverse people. The art was absolutely amazing and I was pretty much deaf when I left so other than the technical difficulties with the sound system, in the beginning, I think I got a pretty nice amount of brain damage for the night… there are always some great after parties too if you stick around. of course, I guess you just can’t please everyone by throwing a party. just remember that it’s all in your mind it just depends on which angle you choose to view things from.

From: bcadams Yes, wonderful party…Lovely venue, especially for the view of Manhattan as the sun was rising..nice & spacious too, could’ve held about eight times the amount of people that were there…The music, there are no appropriate words for…Don’t think I’ve heard a better live set than Dag’s (HB) in my life, except maybe for Hallucinogen..Mino provided good energy too with his stomping set complete with live drumming…and to top it off, Influx, as he usually does, brought the energy to a new peak that I didn’t think was possible considering my own exhausted legs…the crowd fed off the music, a most positive vibe was present, and a good time was had by all…Well done to Omnitribe as usual, keep it up guys!
From: “bigpaw4444” all in all I thought the party was decent. venue is cool but not optimal for sound, imo. the commando security team definitely soured my mood more than once. artwork left much to be desired, but I suppose it’s not an easy place to decorate. as for the music, shi was the highlight of the night for me on the main stage. human blue, a little disappointing, although I had never heard him before. his set didn’t really seem to go anywhere, but maybe it just wasn’t my style. enough people seemed to have enjoyed it. sorry, but what was up with that phony “live” drumming? it was a good idea if he were actually playing the things, but it got old real quick. I had a pretty good time in the “chill-out” room, more of a progressive room really. Gavin played some nice stuff all night. my thoughts. thx Omnitribe

no needles were provided for the turntables so the main act (Serge from Total Eclipse) freaked out said fuck off and went back to the hotel. And the party closed at 4am.
Yea what jeff said, there was a bunch of strange new yorkers from outside the trance scene (like our in-crowd) but they left at peak hours and it was the NYC trance heads, music was pretty good nice to have 1 DJ for a change Man also some crazy female energy-LISA/Kelly And the location was quaint overall 4 out of 5 It sucks for Tsunami they approached me but I really aint gonna work for free, they wanted me to decorate and stuff I even was gonna go there but the Guiome came back to the party and said it got shut down insane! I kinda feel sorry for them, if only they could work with the people and not against them it seems these days. Used to be good for what its worth but like I said I’m glad I was out of it and enjoying myself at Leons, hey im headling Wylie’s party tonight im not on the Online flyer but I’m gonna be Headlining. Anybody get my new cd any feedback?
Worst party ever? Totally was for me. Two of my friends got kicked out, 1 for a joint, the other just for being in the vicinity… I saw security people roughly grabbing guys smoking cigarettes. Bizarre things being said during DJ sets over the mike…party ending at 4 with some dude spouting off mountains of bullshit… Not being allowed to sit virtually anywhere… etc. etc. It sucked bigtime!
Worst party ever? I would say the worst venue ever was a tossup between Culture Club and Shelter. The best was Metropolitan Pavilion. Tsunami was at both.
30 people were there. I heard it felt like there were more people who worked there than people who attended.
That’s it, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Tsunami must be eliminated. Boycott Boycott Boycott !!! That was, by far, the most depressing party I’ve ever been to. And Yoni wasn’t even in the city, cuz he’s abroad somewhere, wondering. Tsunami are a bunch of cheats and liars. I personally overheard a Tsunami official telling some people in the audience to wait until 4 a.m. for the Full-on set to begin. Who did they think was going to perform??? I have no idea, since Yoni was not in the City at that time and they knew about it.
I will not go to any Tsunami parties again. I don’t care who they say they are going to bring. These people can fuck up anything, and they proved it.
i don’t know much about Jon Emmanuel. I’ve met him. he seems like a nice guy and I believe anyone involved in organizing NYC trance events deserves our respect and support, but too many mishaps without a followup explanation or apology are eventually going to generate this type of reaction from people. take the phantasm mess. Elly made an apparently sincere effort to rectify that situation and in my mind it was settled with the makeup party and good communication through the mailing lists. I’ve never heard anything from jon through these forums about why full price was charged when miko didn’t show up at Shelter earlier this summer, forcing everyone to listen to 6 hours of yoni (once again). same thing with this Halloween party, where he probably knew in advance that neither yoni or total eclipse would be playing. still, full cover was charged. I think that’s enough material to advocate questioning someone’s ethics.
think it’s a bit of a stretch to say this scene is DYING…just look at the job Omnitribe and Spectra do on a consistent basis…i haven’t been around that long, but I get the impression good parties used to be much fewer and far between…now they’re happening on a regular basis…plus the underground scene is still alive & well…Tsunami, however, IS dying…that is a fair statement.
I came to this party with high expectations because the Tsunami production in Israel is EXPLOSIVE!!! (Tomer & Jeremy – You guys really rock!)
But This party in the culture club was one of the most fucked up parties I’ve ever been too. The sound system had NO POWER. I could talk normally, and someone 20ft. away could hear me.
I’ve never seen so much security in one place – That really got me mad.
And who is this DJ Unknown ?!?! What the hell were the Tsunami guys thinking when they decided to let him play !?
Anyway – one of the biggest falls I’ve had in a long time.
I really didn’t expect this from Tsunami.
But I DO still believe in Tsunami, and I hope the next event will make the Halloween party look as if it never happened.

AMNESIUM BORIS ICY COIL TRANCELLOR OGGMOD MACHINE ORC MANIC MEKATOR I loved the party at Wylie’s rat-infested apartment, good shite. pretty interesting weekend. leon’s party having a strange, psychotic vibe, Tsunami just completely sucking ass cheeks, Wylie’s shook up my world (or maybe it was the Kool-aid vibe…either way, tight crowd…in a good way) and body temple serving as your pretty standard party, acting to wind down the weekend. I hopped on the Chinatown bus about 8 this mornin closed my eyes and was mysteriously back in Boston. till my next trance warrior adventure in the intoxicating NYC…

Bravo to all of the talented people who contributed energy and love to make it Body Temple events are events that bring together ecstatic dancers, musicians, actors, visual and audio wizards, shamans, and healers. We blur the lines between dance club and theater, and create an environment where the tribal and the mythic coexist on the cutting edge. Body Temple integrates ancient tribal traditions and emerging new technologies within the modern dance club arena. The Phantasm MakeUp Party went off well, so come this Saturday with a clear conscience. The Lunatarium doesn’t have a cabaret license AFAIK, but Omnitribe recently pulled it off even after the NYPD came at 1am. But beware of security! With what they confiscated they had enough to party like it was 1999 for at least 3 days straight. I’m eager to see Riktam from GMS and Dmitri from TIP. The next Synthetic date is set for November 23. Unknown Shrooms is now running on a fairly regular fortnightly basis. The noncommercial parties kicked ass this weekend. Leon’s and Wylies kicked ass. If you’re not on Safetydance and you’re not a bonehead thug or other general liability as a personality then find me at the next party and introduce yourself. List info: Brainmachines up to 900 members. Safetydance up to 521. NYC604 is up to 80 members and is proving to be a good list.

How to make a Bubble Where did you get the bubble on Wylie’s roof and do they come any bigger? you buy big 4′ rolls of plastic at hardware stores or maybe Canal street. iron the seams with wax paper between the iron and the plastic. one side has a hole for a fan, fastened with duct tape, and a hole on the other side for a doorway. you have to diagram how big you want it and have space to lay it out. you buy big 4′ rolls of plastic at hardware stores or maybe canal street. iron the seams with wax paper between the iron and the plastic. one side has a hole for a fan, fastened with duct tape, and a hole on the other side for a doorway.

Hello, Jeff. Are you coming to Body Temple and/or Synthetic this Saturday? I am asking because I am trying to figure out which one to go to. If you want to meditate, yoga, soul hunting, are a girl (or want to meet them) go to BT but know that later it’s a club with no known psytrance DJs. Or you can go to both. Although both on Saturday they do not coincide nor conflict. Careful though I’ve tried both and you really want to pick one! re you coming to Body Temple and/or Synthetic this Saturday? I am asking If you want to meditate, yoga, soul hunting, are a girl (or want to meet them) go to BT but know that later it’s a club with no known psytrance DJs.

We blur the lines between dance club, and theater creating an environment where the tribal and the mythic coexist on the cutting edge. Body Temple integrates ancient tribal traditions and emerging new technologies within the modern dance club arena. These events have brought together the magical connection between shamans and performers, DJ’s and live musicians, so people could experience the same kinds of ecstatic experiences that our ancestors found in dancing, religious rituals, and ceremonies. All of this using the driving beats of global house music. To experience the complete magic we invite you to travel with us the whole celebration. That is what sets Body Temple apart from other events. It is theatre, shamanism, and a slamming dance party all at once. Our Line up includes: 5 pm to 6 pm – Kirtan chanting & Yoga with a DJ led by Parashakti and Marie Elizabeth. 6 pm to 7:15 pm – No Dimensions Sufi Whirling Meditation Led by Alok, director of the Alok Holistic H ealth Center. web AlokHealth “As the world spins, your being remains fully centered. This practice begins and ends in movement – a way to turn our wounds into healing, our pain into compassion, our fears into creativity. The essential ground of this part is the re-uniting of spirit and flesh through Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms. When you enter into the 5 Rhythms, you embark on a pilgrimage o f self-revelation rooted in action and movement. This happens because the 5 Rhythms are not a theory, but a practice. Sven Vath & Richie Hawtin
Remember Svan Vath? point of history – TWILO never ever had psytrance artists; sevn vath and Tsuyoshi don’t count. but some of you may like sven vath, he was fuzzily In there at the dawn of modern psytrance maybe you want to post this -steve ….
Sven Vath & Richie Hawtin MONDAY DJ WHAT: Tronic Treatment with Hawtin, Vath, and the Bugged Out! Crew WHEN: Mon 11.25 (10 pm) WHERE: Baktun & Filter 14 (418 & 432 W 14th St) PRICE: $10 web tronic treatment web baktun As many a savvy nightcrawler will tell you, the most legendary soirees don’t happen on the weekend. You’d think that Tronic Treatment was trying to single-handedly prove this theory with this slammin’ doubleheader.
Within the intimate confines of Baktun, two unannounced guests from the UK’s Bugged Out! party will be spinning the crowd into notorious mayhem. As if that weren’t enough, Tronic’s also host ing the CD release party for a Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath collaboration at Filter 14 on the same night. The most fabu thing about it is you only pay once for both gigs. With all the motion happening between these two spots, expect a parade-like euphoria on West 14th. Crazy. (SC)
Correction:
Acid Physix did a few parties in the back room at Twilo that were full-on trance parties this had to be in 96-98.. I don’t recall exactly when, but Matthew at Neuronautics Institute worked at 2 of them I believe…….

Spectra and Mindengine – P L A S M A S T I C
A Thanksgiving weekend celebration…. For the first time in new york city: DJ Philipp Plastic Park, Sunset Recordings…. Switzerland PLAS TIK PARK/SUNSET RECORDINGS was founded as brother and sister labels, connected to build a unique platform where one side is the darker side of psychedelic-trance; and the other embodies a more progressive, groovy-lightful variation. This style is embodied by the music of Philipp Wolgast aka DJ PHILIPP from Hamburg, who known for his wicked DJ sets played at major trance events around the globe. Ammon E.P Satellite Records….Boston Jamin Spectra….new york city Gavin Spectra….new york city Steve-O Spectra, Goababies….new york city Deco: Jamin & Spectra
Old venue fell though – party is now at Ciao Bella 138 North 8th Street Williamsburg Between Bedford and Berry. Sorry I don’t know the closest subway stop. From 11:30 until 4:30 or so.. it is NOT an all-nighter so get there early. And BYOB if you want it. It’s a restaurant so I assume other drinks will be there. I think admission is now $10, but don’t quote me on that 🙂 -Ben light-o-matic
The Spectra got canceled on Friday – moved on Saturday to ‘Wolf’s Leg Bar’? on 41 and 9,- Gavin played with some phunk-ass psycho-rocky mind-twisting team for couple of hours, it was pretty kewl, some people showed up. I guess to that point on Saturday evening everybody was too worn out to have a full-on party, but it’s been a nice chill-out. Some people went to Brooklyn despite obvious signs that the party will get busted, and as far as I understand ditched the option to go Mish’s place to continue. So far so good.

Omnitribe mentioned in Mushroom Mag mushroom mag is a small free trance magazine based in Germany
from the Synthetic Sadhus website In the interest of trance newsworthiness I am posting this here from HERE
To all of you Dreamers, Wonderers and Believers, To my Friends, Brothers and Sisters, I have to announce important news, the Saturday, November 23 party was the last chapter of the Synthetic Sadhus’ four years Saga. The New Year’s Eve is canceled as well as ALL the upcoming parties. It is the conclusion of a beautiful and unforgettable adventure, the conclusion of 10 amazing years devoted to the Trance culture and 28 magical gatherings in the Big Apple. I ran out of strength, out of money and I worked to the bone for way too long… As you guys know, this music is my heartbeat and the trance scene surely remains an authentic way of life that I embraced with passion, but I simply can not continue to sacrifice all my energy and my love for gatherings that people chose not attend anymore. I have been en patient and offered all I could give, but I am extremely tired. It is always better to stop on a beautiful party than to wait for things to turn real ugly, It is time to accept reality and to accept that the trance culture did not prevail in New York City. Of course, it was a great challenge, to offer an alternative artistic way of life in the capital of the money-driven wild capitalist world was one hell of a challenge and We, dreamers, managed to dream in a world that does not allow dreams for the last Four years! But today, while records shops are either closing, either refusing to distribute Trance any longer, while trance distributors are moving away from New York, while other Productions are completely bankrupt, while legendary labels are disappearing or reconverting in Tech-House or progressive, we have to look at reality and accept that the Psy-Trance in U.S.A is really in a dead-end situation. There is a beautiful small family that I will miss to gather, but there are NO scene, no scene allowing us to survive independently, no Americans while we are in America, they did not embrace our revendications, our dreams, our music… I guess in America they are too used to sugar-coated suppository music, they just want easy to swallow sounds to relax from their 10 hours a day work week. Because the quest in this country is not spiritual but material, which explains why in 5 years of trance in New York, we still don’t have any electronic radio, any kind of sponsoring, no means of distribution and information, no specialized press, barely a spot to put flyers in the few shops there is, cops ready for action outside the parties if we distribute flyers in the street, etc…etc …etc… It cost too much for a too-small audience, in other words, it is a dead-end ! Because no one had the balls to take a risk, people want sure money and as fast as possible. And for the very few who took risks such as Us or Tsunami or Spectra, well at the last the artist refused to play because of the lack of attendance, then the last Spectra, the artist did not show up and the venue closed its doors, about us at the last Synthetic, we barely reached 500 souls while we had more than double last year at the same date. The New York crowd is before all a club crowd, they are not interested in the underground, they are not even curious. In spite of all the amazing painters and deco artists we brang, in spite of stunning international line-ups, and a truly beautiful international crowd, in spite of venues with security that join us on the dancefloors, they are not curious. It is in a way the same mentality towards foreign subtitled movies, New Yorkers are lazy, it is too much work to read subtitles. Therefore there is only three or four independent movie theater in the pretentiously capital of the world! There is such a lack of artistic motivation, of spiritual communication…And even the rave Productions are falling apart one after the other, the entire electronic culture is in decline in this country, only the VERY commercial, clubby house music still drives crowds today, but that’s the way it is! Personally, Trance is too important in my life for me to reconvert myself with more commercial Productions, I would never find the motivation if it is only about making some dough…I’d rather do something else, I have other resources, other passions….I will miss it, I will miss all of you, but I retire with no regrets, I met so many great individuals, I have so many beautiful souvenirs and I found so much inspiration, these last ten years have been unforgettable…. And thank s to you guys who supported us, who believed in the Sadhus and shared this adventure with so much love… Thanks for all the smiles, for all your mails, and for all your support, it is what kept me going for so long! But Trance culture beliefs represents the antagonist concept of New York City’s mentality, we represented a small knot of resistance in front of the ever-growing sins of never-ending greed, we proposed another look on life, another approach to perceive and to feel, another way to love, a TRUE way and a REAL look, but then again it does not seem that human nature instinctively bends towards these directions, it requires thinking and efforts, will and determination, frankness versus fakeness, etc… Also and most importantly, the artists did change, the true pioneers, the unavoidable ones, the ones who guided us, who made us believe, really believe became an endangered species today, some of the newcomers are arrogant, pretentious, greedy and torture to work with and I feel relieved to know that I won’t have to deal with those no more, those artists that pretend to embrace and to represent the trance culture but that want to travel only in Business class, cry because they stay in 200 $ a night hotels, are paid thousands of dollars for a 2-hour set, make me rent thousands of $ of equipment they fake to use on stage, require to have as many hotel nights as they feel for their “holidays” in New York, sometimes even asking me to pay for their nights out before or after the party…I mean it is NEVER enough, artists like Alien “Reject” that could discuss any trance lovers from ever listening to this music again, cheap crooks….Thank God I am only talking of a minority because most of the talents I brang were great guys, passionate and humble, inspiring people that gave a face to the amazing tracks we hear d… I mean if you consider yourself as Madonna, go in the fucking show Business and do not pronounce the word underground, it is forbidden on Arsim ‘s lips…Just stay away from people who try to share a dream, because W E are true visionaries a little too much in advance on their time…
Anyway the Sadhus will always stay alive in our memories and who knows one of these days, on a magical night, a flyer might announce a surprise Synthetic gathering…We never know what the future holds… Although it is the end of an era, it is also the beginning of a new one, but the foundations of the true tribe seem to have dispersed, at least in New York, let’s keep all these magical nights and dawns alive in our memories, and remember Krisz tina who filled with grace and beauty the most memorable of these Babylonian fragments of life in which we succeeded to form an entity… It is just an “Au revoir”….. And as always, with much Love, Peace & light….Synthetic Sadhus
now I disagree. The last SS party was double booked with the Burning Man Decompression, the biggest party of the year. It is participatory; trance may have had a hard time encouraging a DIY ethic in NYC, but the Burning Man ethos has not. Techno took 10 years to become mainstream enough to be commercial in this country, and Psy-Trance started 5 years after techno. It’s been a bad two year period for everyone in NYC, bombed in 9/11, rampant unemployment, NYPD crackdowns, shortage s of communion wafers, etc etc I’m pretty bummed out after reading this, we’ll get through this stronger than before. here’s why, the devil is in the details, I’ll let you work that out 🙂
A Positive, Scientific Way to view the End of Synthetic Sadhus
The model most of the scientific community accepts today in describing evolutionary growth and change (including all personal growth) is based on the work of theoretical chemist Ily a Prigogine, who won the Nobel prize in 1977 for work on what he called “dissipative structures.”
Prigogine was working in the field of thermodynamics where for over a century scientists had been aware of a seeming contradiction between two laws of nature. On one hand, the second law of thermodynamics states that the amount of randomness or chaos often called entropy in the universe is always increasing. On the other hand, many things, including life itself, are obviously becoming more ordered, less random.
Why is it, scientists wondered, that some things evolve and grow when the overall tendency in the universe is for things to break down and become less ordered?
What Prigogine noticed was that what he calls “open systems” systems that are able to exchange energy and matter with their environment are able to maintain their structure and even grow and evolve into more complex systems because they have the ability to dissipate entropy to their environment in such a way that the total amount of entropy, overall, does increase. They maintain their orderliness and even increase it at the expense, entropically speaking, of their environment.
An open system of which a human being is a prime example is a flow of energy. We constantly take in light, air, water, heat, nutrients, as well as all kinds of information from our senses. In turn, we dissipate to our environment carbon dioxide, heat, waste products, activities of various kinds, and so on.
And, we are more than just a tube with something flowing through it, we are the flow itself not just a “thing,” but a living, changing evolving process.
Open systems are very plastic and can handle all kinds of fluctuation and variations in input from their environment, but each system (each person) has an upper limit of how much randomness, how much entropy, it can dissipate to its environment. This limit is based on the system’s structure (prevailing belief systems about oneself and one’s universe) and its degree of complexity (the degree to which one can see and experience the infinite connections that make our own personal universe). If fluctuations from the environment become too much, the system can not dissipate enough entropy to maintain its structure and therefore begins to become internally chaotic and unstable. In other words, we feel overwhelmed. If input continues at this higher level, the system will finally come to a point where it is so unstable that the slightest nudge brings things to a screeching halt. At this point, the system has the ability to move in an infinite number of unpredictable directions, like an angry crowd on the verge of rioting or a person at a crisis point in a serious illness. This point, which Prigogine called a bifurcation point (bifurcate meaning “to divide into two branches”) is a kind of moment of truth. Either the system totally breaks down and ceases to exist as an organized system, or it spontaneously reorders itself in an entirely new way. The incredible thing about this reorganization is that the new system is totally non-causal and non-linear with what went before. It is a true quantum leap, a death, and re-birth, and the main characteristic of the new system is that it has the capability to handle the fluctuations, the input from the environment, that caused the old system to become overwhelmed and break down.
In Prigogine’s words, the system “escapes into a higher order.”
Out of chaos comes a new order, a new, more evolved system.
This is how evolution happens. All things grow and evolve in this manner, whether a seed, a corporation, a highway system, or a human being.
This process is repeating itself millions of times each minute in every cell of your body. It also happens on a larger scale regarding more macroscopic aspects of your being.
Changes in core beliefs and personal habits happen, for instance, as the old ways of looking at and dealing with the world are overwhelmed by changing input from the environment and can no longer disburse the entropy necessary for their survival.
The aging process, too, is a continually diminishing ability to dissipate entropy to the environment resulting eventually in the death of the organism. The human brain, as we have said, is the ultimate open system, constantly exchanging energy with its environment. Up to a point, the system can handle all kinds of fluctuations. But if the input becomes too much, we begin to become overwhelmed, things temporarily break down, and the system then reorganizes itself at a higher order. Prior to the overwhelming input, things make sense. Then, once overwhelm begins, they no longer make sense.
Finally, after reorganization at a higher level things make sense once again, but in a whole new way, never before imagined.
In spite of all this, I refuse to believe that psytrance in America is dead.
I strongly feel that if the Trance scene in Israel or India was started by throwing 95% club parties then it would have struggled there also. You can’t expect people to fall in love with this music after listening to it at some dodgy club in Brooklyn. I don’t care if you are American or Japanese or from Mars. Outdoor parties are the best way to listen to psytrance. I am aware of the fact that this is virtually impossible in a place like New York. But if you look at places like San Francisco and Ashville more then 50% of the party people are Americans. So please don’t generalize and say that “all Americans are like this or that….” because you aren’t Kevin Costner and this isn’t Field of Dreams. If you build it they won’t always come.
On a lighter note, I really hope that Tsunami will continue bringing top-notch artists to New York because I can’t imagine that the biggest city in America won’t have a trance scene. There are just too many trance-heads that live there and pass through temporarily to just give up forever. Maybe the next organizer who steps up should think about not bringing the most expensive artists in the world but bringing one good proven DJ that will get the job done.
Many times you would see 3 or 4 huge names on one bill an New York parties. This is unnecessary IMO.
I think its too early to bury Trance in the US.

Is there anyone interested in renting a ski house this winter close to NYC that will be infested with psytrance lovers? Speak up now! This is our third year. Three is a lucky number, and we have experience on our side. to join the discussion group it will happen if (a) we get enough people to put in $$$ so we do not have to scrape at the last minute, and (b) charge any guests a set amount, say $10 a night, and (c) it’s not too far out (2-3 hours from NYC) We could get a lot of places, but I just want to ensure that there is at least a critical mass of people. Beings that few people actually ski, we would need at least 10 people a weekend to make it fun. If the ski lodge is going to be gotten we have to come up with at least $3,000 from the people who are receiving this email… That’s $1,000 a month, $250 a weekend. Last year we got the house without having all the funds paid for hoping to get guest money. That didn’t happen so we need to raise all of it off the bat, and use guest money for gas, food, and ancillary funds. Judging by last year, the $3,000 will be to pay for the main house that we got which is pretty nice with 3BR’s a full basement 2 BA, gas fireplace, jacuzzi etc. Right off the bat, I wanna say this – A $1,000 guarantees you your own bedroom for the three month season! Over $1,000 guarantees you the Master Bedroom with a jacuzzi. We could get the house for however long we want, supply exceeds demand. We may get even better deals this year. And THIS year we will have the d speakers plus aya sessions… So how about it, send a message to me or hit reply all and let us know what you can contribute or if your willing to split costs of what we need to reach $3,000 or $3,500.. if we had 5 people giving $600 or 6 giving $500 that’s the cost of the house right there. (the preceding message was paraphrased from last year’s intro message by Mike RocktheShow at aol.)

Prophecy sent from an expatriate: Part 1, THE RECOGNITION Hark!!! A lone voice in the wind cried “The NYC trance scene is dying, I foresee a slow and painful death”. “Listen, you will hear it in the music……. ” minimalizzzed”, dark minimal beats, fluttering, choking out the extruding life of a “full-on” sound. The new candle holders from the stats of Russia, preferring the malaise of a slower brooding beat, have taken control .”Gotham has become GOTHAM, in the full darkness of a bad “Tim Burton” film.” Where is the energy of the sunlight, the great and magical outdoor life that first spawned psychedelic trance from the shores of GOA? ??” …..cried the traveled ones. “Why…….(in K-slurred garble )…”We have bastardized it and crammed it away in dingy, smokey little clubs and cramped little lofts”…. the Gothamers cry!!!” We have absorbed multiple inhalants to keep us in a perpetual K-Hole of non-existence….. to numb us of our dark dungeon we have created” Aaaaaahhhh” exclaimed the traveled ones. So upon realizing this sad news and state of affairs… the wondering travelers set out on their journey to find a celebrated shore in the West, where others who have kept the torch burning still have faith in the original vibe that psychedelic music was formed under.” There must still be a land whether the bass booms in the trees, the sun rises with a sawtooth wave, where form is celebrated over function, such a place must still exist.”Go search for your dream in the sun”, snided the Gothamers, “we will keep the basement cold for your return!!!”
December 12 Thursday
Prediction for chaos next week in NYC afternoon scene next week, Brooklyn and Queens and a lot of Manhattan: people smoking $8 a pack cigarettes in the freezing cold outside of their local bars because of the new law, and because subways & buses are on strike. this encourages them to just buy 40 ounces because they’re already outside. why go in, drink it down, just to come back out? so all the smokers move inexorably one step closer to acting like street people. shit spills out on the streets. impromptu block parties rise and fall in an hour. what angle is there in this that can be tranced out? my submission – go Jacob’s route, get your mobile sound systems – the ones with the connectors from radio shack attached to car batteries – primed for flexibility. this, coupled with wireless internet access to coordinate with other mobile systems, would ensure that 2003 is the Year of the Free Party Swarm. Wylie will finally get the wireless trance thing going. the winning answer will win a special prize and have their response posted for all to grok.

This can only be solved in VEGAS!!!!!!! We need a Psy party in Sin City!!!!!! Lights, Glam, and one hell of a time to fear and loath………… Minimal a progression in Psy-trance?????….uhhh maybe about two years ago, but if we want to talk about a progression where is it at these days?? Where in the world will the next innovative sound come from. …….. Australia?? Mexico??? Brasil???? God forbid it might ever come from here “THE ONLY REMAINING WORLD SUPERPOWER” [boom-boom beating our Nationalist post-era Nazi-sk drum] Here’s a novel idea…….. why don’t local artists get off their asses and make something ng innovative to maybe give the scene a boost in a new direction. Hint Hint Nudge Nudge Also……….. no negativity meant by the preceding flame sparking prophecy (it was originally intended as an inside chuckler to a former basement dweller). Was just peanut gallery commenting mainly on the need to get outdoors more often in NYC. Some of the best times where when that was still a viable and non “Homeland Security” violation ……… Option. Let us hope the Fear Mongral s don’t choke the lifeblood out of such future endeavors.
Now Amsterdam weighs in
I’m not sure I understood all that, but I think what you were trying to say is what I experienced last year living in Amsterdam. The scene out there is absolutely incredible and it is so this way because it lives in the most basic form, the way it started out before promoters trying to make money who didn’t give a shit took over. In Amsterdam, you never have to pay for a party, at the most 3 euros or so, b/c the people who throw parties out there are the locals and so are the people who spin. So basically on the night of the party, everybody gets an email, told where the party will be (which is always a great underground location) and just shows up to dance their ass off. The DJs will spin-off tables hooked up to a generator in a van so the party can be just about anywhere. And since they do it because they love the scene, the do it for free (which means the parties are free). And they are always fucking incredible and so is the music. I know there are laws that make that more difficult to pull off here but it’s been done before. Do that and I guarantee new york will once again have an incredible underground scene. mtrancemaniandevil at yahoo

Ben:
Great idea, but I call “put up or shut up”. When’s your next party? Without even trying hard I can name many free parties: bridge parties Omnitribe parties at the beach and soccer field PSI in the pine barrens Wylie Trancemissions Lots more here and there (eg Spectra last-minute party at the restaurant) Lounge nights: Chiletrance at Opium Den Mandala at Korova Whatever Tony was calling himself at Who’s on First Plus lots of parties that charged some admission fee but we’re total financial losses from the beginning.. never standing a chance of making money, only existing because people gave their equipment and time for free: Burning Elf parties Light-O-Matic party(s) Various producers at Nev a Lots of others… Sorry to everyone I didn’t mention. But you get the idea. I myself have spent ridiculous amounts of money on my equipment, glad to do psytrance parties at a loss most of the time. People complain about spending $35 to go to a huge party.. I lose significantly more than that every time I haul my equipment out. And I am not the only one. BTW, t o everyone who complained about synthetic charging $35, thinking they were making a killing on those parties.. if it was so easy then why aren’t you doing it? Do the math and figure out what a party like that costs. You’ll find that it is much more likely you would lose thousands than that you would make a fortune. You cannot pay $35 for a big party but you think someone else should pay for a truck and a sound system and for a garage to park the truck, and for storage space for the sound system. Then risk it all being confiscated to make a party for you. Well, people ARE doing that. If you are not satisfied with the product then return it with proof of purchase 🙂 These dreams of beautiful free parties are all great, but it will never happen through whining and complaining. Step one would be to put more of yourself into the parties that ARE going on, to make them better. Try dressing up a bit! Bring some food, some art or whatever. Step two get your wallet out and PAY for some events, WITHOUT COMPLAINING. How do you think equipment gets paid for? How do you think space gets paid for? Step three, if you are able to pull it off, throw a party! If you are not able to pull it off, try saying something nice to the people who DO pul l it off, or at least try. You say the people in the Netherlands are doing it for the love of trance.. but are YOU doing for the love of trance? Rant Mode Off! Thanks -Ben light-o-matic

Chiletrance at Opium Den
Come and enjoy.. Dj Shi. I.k. I.d (Omnitribe) Dima web chiletrance thanks! Love and Light Angeles
Links to the Two Towers, I mean Parties There are two trance parties for New years. As minimal puts me to sleep I’m definitely going to both. Why go? Out of town DJs. DJs will play more “Full On”. It will be the only genre in its space. Why go? Familiar crowd. Virgin space. Lot of locals. cheaper. 24 hours of mayhem!
From the East Sure, I would love to live in Northen Kali with some hippie babe, hang ou t with the buds, do the hot tub thing, discuss Derida, ride a few waves, a nd zip down to San Fran for some partying on the bay on the weekend. But N O! I’m just a masochist, so I stay in New York City! Please don’t rub it in!
So I just got back from Cuba and I wanted to let you know what the scene is like down there. Basically “trance” was outlawed a few months ago due to the overwhelming d culture that it was associated with. I did not heed the warning and went all out anyway. I took down 2 disco balls and 10 pocket lasers (positioned to reflect off of the disco balls and splash light everywhere). The Afro Cuban music died down at about 12:30 AM and I started the trance. I had my laptop plugged into the soundboard and kicked it off with some Shpongle and then laid into the crowd with some atmos, son kite & logic bomb, etc… I had 300 people on their feet. Then the cops arrived at 3:30 and killed the power. It was an amazing experience. I wanted to bust some NY attitude and yell at the cops because we had paid for the place, but they did not want to hear it. I was told when Fidel wants it to end, it ends. The people were coming up to me and asking me where this music comes from and they had never heard anything like it, etc… I had a very short-lived, but very sweet international DJ experience. My film screened 3 times and was well received; I should have some press coming out relatively soon. Hope you are doing well. Garen at aslan-intl moked at aol /I
Tsunami Halloween “make up” passes don’t apply to New Years
Hey Jeff, since I haven’t heard anything recently, could you do me and those of us who were affected by the Tsunami Halloween fiasco a favor and ask our good buddy John if he plans on giving out free passes to his New Year’s party? this of course was his “promise”, to give free admission to his next gig, and I’m sure he plans on keeping his word. if you have his email address handy i’d be happy to ask him myself. thx. If anybody went to that party and can prove it if need be, send a blank email to and you’ll be kept abreast of the status of the next Tsunami party. No passes have been given yet, don’t worry. New years doesn’t count as it’s only half Tsunami; Montgomery said that it will be honored at the next 100% pure Tsunami party – just not this one. …
No, “WE” are not doing a LOTR party at Webster Hall it’s someone else… and def. not a trance party so don’t go and loudly complain that loris, bori, etc aren’t there

You guys did an AWESOME job with your last party. Noma was unreal. Minus my one hour nap, due to various stuff ), they kept me dancing the entire night. The decore was great. For the first time in a long time, I saw banners that didn’t look like every other trance party throughout the history of time. Your visual guys are always spectacular. Even though one of them, and you know who you are, “borrowed” one of my visual concepts (but that’s another story, and I don’t want to get into it while I’m writing a positive review). KEEP IT UP..

Santarchy update… remember the santarchy event from last week? the gang of drunken santas were standing in front of the Blue Man Group yelling RED RED RED!!!
What a weird coincidence, but with someone like Jesus that’s bound to happen… Art thanks to Chay from Bali/Sumatra (who does fluoro banners) and Alex Grey for the Christ figures in exactly the same position, a .18/.13 second ratio. Strange, very strange. You can view it the animated GIF at web tranceam.org/tourdetrance web tranceam.org/tourdetrance if anybody ever finds Big J in a similar pose please send me the link thanks. Strange, very strange.
On the evils of Coke and minimalism, from the West Coast from SF: have to concur on the cocaine aspect -out here it’s extra cheap, and there are too many trancers who are falling that way. cokers always look so strange coming back onto the dance floor after their little trip to the back room. this quote in particular- that continually disappoints me is cocaine. That drug is a serious anti-psychedelic. Under the drug, people usually lose short term memory, eliminating appreciation for builds, subtle changes, or breakdowns.” DJs who used to be more psychedelic that started doing lots of coke are playing nothing but straight BANG BANG with no psy. partly due to this minimal invasion but maybe partly because as stated above, they have become less sensitive.

From: Charlie NYC at the new year’s party at Club Mundo the security force tried to rob me (Charlie), Tony, Scotty, and they probably stole Michel’s cell phone. they took some vitamins from me, beano, b-12, and multivitamins, all because I went behind the tapestry in the corner. I was playing, it was a PARTY! the tapestry was 4 feet off the ground and there was no way I could have “hid” behind it to do anything warranting a search of my pockets. they take any excuse to search people hoping to find something to take. they threw Scotty to the floor and then into the bathroom because they “thought” he was smoking pot. after the party, when everyone was gone, Michel left his cell phone on the table for a second when only security was left there and the only ones who could have taken it. I do not enjoy having to fear a gang of thieves who are paid to patrol a territory my people are worshiping in. this hurts the vibe. this is wrong. by using clubs to hold our sacred events we are compromising our culture and, ironically, our security. we should not do this. we should not put up with this. I will not go to club Mundo again and I ask that others avoid clubs in general too. sorry Omnitribe but my advice is to find a warehouse space, a loft, or a bar/lounge/club that does not try to rob its patrons. do this for your people. we deserve a space to practice, in freedom, our unadulterated culture. oh, and they were taking pens at the door, yes, pens. how do we write, with blood? that’s stupid. ~Charlie
Mundo Security Gang of TheivesTo: SafetyDance From: Benjamin R Not only security but bar-maids are also thieves. On a couple of occasions when I ordered drinks at the bar downstairs I had to remind those maids to give me my change back – after waiting for it for 10 minutes. I thought it only happened to me but a friend of mine complained about it as well. I don’t think it’s costumery to leave a 200% tip. Boris Ben L wrote: APPARENTLY, pens are now deadly weapons. I think these guys are watching too many Schwarzenegger movies. I guess you could stab security in the eye with this.
From: “ricard siagian” (Chay) at that time, before I digest all my trip tickets, I went to the bar with $20, they give me seven dollar back by getting one water. I said to them, “Yo, I am not drunk yet, give me another ten”. They just pretend like a stupid innocent thief by trained. I could just have free drink at that time, but I tried to make the money moving in a market cycle. Unluckily, I was a victim of another empty brains. This time the player are not the ugly fat bumpers but the girl behind the bar and the man behind the register. It was a sweet soap opera in club Mundo. daya sakti>From: Machinelf >Reply-To: SafetyDance >To: SafetyDance >Subject: Re: [SafetyDance] Mundo Security Gang of Theives>
look what happened to Tsunami… enough said.last I saw, which was New Year’s Eve, HOTsunami was completely rockingly full-on, esp considering it’s no longer TsuYanni. And if you’re only as good as your last party, then guess what… HOTsunami is on fire. Clubs rule.I danced naked at Vinyl. They let me stay. Club Mundo is as good as we can ever expect from a club. Security pulled a used syringe out of my backpack and still let me in. (it was so hidden long ago even I forgot it was there) every time I was there I bought beer well into 8am, which is great if you are sober. So don’t tell me Club Mundo is not “cool.” You should always hide stuff so as to make it invisible. If they can find it, you deserve to lose it.I hate it when the organizers and locations make squat from us penniless trance trash, and we complain about it. Why bite the hand that feeds you? Why not go and use your energy to make Your Own Hobbit Hill? (sound of a gauntlet being thrown across the dancefloor)
Charlie NYC wrote: I think you should understand to do parties in new york is very hard, especially dealing with cops which we know had busted many of our parties in the past; however, I just spoke with the owner about complaints on the internet about security on nye, and he told me he will take care of this in next events, He also said that he had to hire extra stuff because it was a 24hs party. He promised that next time the security will be better and smaller, as far as I know. I think they saw a lot of people smoking inside and they have to their job and at least tell the person to not smoke anymore and I know they didn’t put anybody out for any reason if you remember there are places that I don’t mention names where security usually put people out if they see you smoking. give Club Mundo another chance they are nice guys “owners” willing to work with us and make good parties,in these days is very hard to find a place with all the licenses and with a nice owner like that! Dreamcatcher crew and edmundo (club mundo) > but let me remind all that in my first email

Now this is all my responsibility……it is my own fault, but I was really sad that it was not a safe welcoming environment(yeah okay so I wasn’t so safe and welcoming either) but… I don’t have a point, except maybe Jeff is working undercover with the security to kick out the people he doesn’t want there.Just kidding…………..I have also had great times at various clubs, and other birthday parties. It just really does take away something to have to be watching your back all the time. Sat, 18 Jan 2003 02:45:09 From: “ricard siagian” I am from Far Asia were I experienced most of the trance life and surround it (not the synthetic ones in my everyday life, school, ceremonies, etc). On the Website 70$ At the Door 80$, Hello everyone Home of trance is wishing all its customers and friends a Merry Christmas happy chanuka and a happy new upcoming year. This is a letter to share with all of you what we are planing on the new year’s eve party that we are organizing together with the Tsunami production group. The idea behind the party is to deliver the ultimate trance experience which begins with The people behind the production that wish only to deliver the highest level production and service to the people of new york and all the other cities. It continues from the artists that we have booked that each one is a master with his own unique style. The concept of Goa trance as we know it is based on two specific types of music in the genre of psytrance: Psychedelic “night music”.(closed, condensed very psychedelic music!!) and “morning music” (open, flowing refreshing tunes and beats!!!) the line u p of the party is gonna be set in a way that each one of the artists is go ing to play the music, And time slot suitable for their expertise We checked with our artists ( some of whom are sound engineers.) about the equipment and sound system we are using. All to assure that we are using the best sound system we can rent for this event, and their needs. Sound is the most important thing for us, we learned that an explosive party is based on a powerful, Crisp, Clean sound system. The next important thing is the dimension you set for a party if it is outdoors(unfortunately not possible in dec.) or indoors like the space we took for the party. Nagual creation s the artist we are flying in along with all the other musical artists is a magician in taking a space and changing it into a psychedelic magical 2a hanging sculptures. We also know that an explosive event depends on the vibe, We can promise like everyone already experienced in our previous events (Goa Gil upstate) (jorg, ups tate) We dance and enjoy and care about all the aspects that the common party goer cares about.WE PROMISE K A R A H A N A !!! HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT THIS EVENT, WICH IS ORGANIZED WITH ALL THE LOVE AND KNOWLEDGE TO THE TRANCE SCENE!!! BOM SHANKAR!!! A few weeks later:
On the strength of its New Years Party HoT shot up to the highest-rated large trance organization in New York. This was possible because they have done very few events, all great even the one that rained heavily. And who can forget when they brought Goa “Trance is not a disco in a forest, it is an initiation” Gil? Good to see you strong, bringing in th e psychedelic light to the darkest reaches of our embattled city. The only higher-rated group now is Burning Elf, and they are a two-Ent operation. I can’t wait for the Two Towers. The web brainmachines/orcbible New Orcs will prevail! Trance is not an exclusive quality – VIBE – has been lacking in our once fair city, and a lot of it has to do with 9/11 and the economy, and we live in the capital of Mammon, but the future looks very bright. I don’t know about you, but I have been spending the winter getting prepared for 2003. and a track for your journey by Gil web tranceam.org/TrueGoaSpiritVo cal.mp3
I had a pretty intense New Years… Pat and I went to the Tsunami party in NYC to see Xenomorph do a live PA. First we got on the Fung Wah bus in Chinatown and they played a kung fu movie from the 70’s! Then we got to NYC went into the venue and there was this massive psychedelic bird, with a 20ft wingspan, suspended from the middle of the ceiling. They made it flap its wings at midnight. Seeing Xenomorph live made the entire trip worth it. He was so fucking intense! He was wearing PVC pants, knee-high boots and pvc skirt, with a mesh shirt. He played for 2 1/2 hours, and busted out his GUITAR at least 8 times. It was like a mix of goth/industrial and psytrance from hell, totally unreal! We didn’t leave the stage the entire time and I got a satan salute from Xenomorph toward the end. It was definitely one of the top 5 performances I’ve ever seen. Double Dragon did a live set that was quite nasty as well. Happy New Year Everyone!
Tsunami…From a West Coast point of view. ~Psynthetic~ Just wanted to put in my thanks and appreciation to the New York family for making me feel so at home this new years. Wow, Xenomorph was amazing, this is my 4th or 5th time seeing him and this was by far one of his best performances. Don’t be fooled by his get up, he is one of the sweetest and nicest guys you could ever have the privilege of meeting, honored to call him my friend. Then Mr. Dragon, holy shit he absolutely floored me, nice mix of his new tracks with his legendary classics! And of course Sesto Sento, these kids are going to be huge, what aggressive sound, powerful stuff. The sound system was one of the best that I’ve ever heard at a psychedelic party and I’ve been to a lot, it damn near was enough to bring me to tears! The artwork was out of this world, it was really nice to see some fresh tapestries of that quality. And the vibe was of a serious dancing fun mood all night and all day pretty much. I felt as at home as I do with my S.F. freaks…thanks again for making me feel so at home. Anybody know what was up with turning on the lights in the morning only to have them turned back off later on.? It was kinda cool for a while to see everybody stomping around but after a whileirritatingrt of irritating…just wondering?

btw, this party was an absolute blast… 230 through the door plus another 35 guests, and positive vibes everywhere all night. we (Gandu, myself, and two others) got to the party a little after 10pm, and ended up staying there ’til things wound down sometime around 8am… there were, then I didn’t get a chance to meet them. it is a pretty long drive from Florida to Asheville (about 4 hours to a’ville from here in Atlanta, and about 7-8 hours from atl to Tampa/Orlando, and then another 9-10 hours from Tampa to Miami!), so I doubt that anybody would have driven that far… and I am sure that if there was anybody looking for a trance party in new England, they would have just gone to one of the two events going on in NYC.. from what I could tell it was mostly locals there for this event, and I wouldn’t be surprised if our group of four were the only out-of-towners there…
Just wanted to add that this was an awesome party…I had absolutely the most wonderful time!!! the people and the vibe was great…the only problem was that it was raining most of the way there which was a pain in the arse to drive in…other than that… I can’t wait to go for the next event!
